Namibia’s minister of justice gave a strong speech at the International Court of Justice. Yvonne Dausab called for an end to the decades of injustice suffered by the Palestinian people. Speaking at a UN-instigated hearing into the Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territories, she spoke of Namibia’s shared pain and sense of moral duty to appear before the court, and urged the world “not to ignore the carnage waged against the Palestinians.”

But she also referenced Namibia’s brutal, colonial occupation by the Germans, and the genocide they perpetrated - massacring as many as 100,000 indigenous Namibians in what’s seen as the first genocide of the 20th century. Berlin has defended Tel Aviv against South Africa’s recent genocide case against Israel at the ICJ. Germany claims the case has ‘no basis’ and accuses Pretoria of a ‘political instrumentalisation’ of the charge of violating the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention.

What do you think of Germany’s position and Namibia’s less-than-subtle rebuke?

Human trafficking is on the rise in Sierra Leone because climate disasters are destroying people’s homes and livelihoods and forcing them to look elsewhere for safety and survival.

One-third of Sierra Leoneans live on the coast or on nearby islands, where their homes, hospitals and harvests are being destroyed due to the climate crisis. Predatory traffickers are targeting young people with offers of employment overseas in order to survive.

A fascinating fact about the Great Sphinx of Giza is that it is one of the oldest and largest monumental statues in the world, standing at around 66 feet (20 meters) tall and 240 feet (73 meters) long. And it was built by the Pharoah Khafre (Chepren) the son of Khufu (Cheops)

Dakar is a city with over 300 miles of coastline, which contributes to the unique culture of the people who live here. Teranga has always guided the Senegalese way of life and is instilled into each generation at an early age, giving the city its super-welcoming vibe. These are just a few of the people who welcomed me with open arms during my visit...
:
Photo 2 - This is Isseu Diop, owner of Mburu Bakery. She is taking the French heritage of baking and infusing it with a more Senegalese perspective. Try her fonio bread, for example, or her pastries made with bissap or ditakh!
:
Photo 3, 4 & 5 - I met Professor Ousman Sene at the Massalikoul Jinaan Mosque, the largest mosque in West Africa. Majority of Senegalese identify as Muslim, so they turned to each other to raise the funds to build this Moroccan-inspired house of worship.
:
Photo 6 - Chef Pierre Thiam is the Signature Chef at Dakar Pullman Teranga. He is a culinary ambassador who has contributed to bringing West African cuisine to the attention of the fine dining world. In Dakar, he introduced me to fonio, an ancient grain that is as easy as quinoa to cook and extremely tasty and nutritious.
:
Photo 7 - Karelle Vignon-Vullierme and Olivier Vullierme are content creators of lifestyle and food content. Early in their relationship, Karelle started cooking for Olivier and decided to blog about her culinary adventures. What started out as a gesture of affection changed both their lives as they developed a following online!
:
Photo 8 - Malick Welli is a friend of mine and a Senegalese artist who has been working in photography and fashion for over a decade. While I was in Dakar, I was lucky enough to have a proper Senegalese meal with him and his friends of the BEST tasting thieboudienne (the national dish) I’ve ever had!
:
Photo 9 - I had a chance to dine with rapper Nix at La Favela. Born here in Dakar, Nix was raised speaking both French and Wolof. When he became a rap artist, it seemed natural to rap in French. But that started to feel like someone else’s language, so in 2016 he made a big change and switched to rapping in Wolof.

Today in Black History Month, we remember Miriam Makeba, Pan-African artist, anti-colonial icon, and anti-apartheid activist. Also known as “Mama Africa,” she was a Grammy Award-winning singer who fearlessly sang about the experiences of her people under South Africa’s racist apartheid regime and victims of racism and colonialism across the world.

A cholera outbreak has impacted at least seven different countries across Africa. A vaccine shortage and the climate crisis are making things even worse — thousands have died since the outbreak began in 2022.

Health care staff are resorting to school fields and stadiums to treat the growing number of patients.

The military in Guinea, which seized power more than two years ago, has dissolved the interim government in the West African nation and said it will appoint a new administration.

Gen. Amara Camara, in a video address on Monday night, added that daily business would continue as usual under the deputy secretary generals until a new government was formed.

The West African nation has been led by a military regime since soldiers ousted President Alpha Conde in 2021. The West African regional bloc known as ECOWAS has pushed for a quick transition back to civilian rule and elections are scheduled for 2025.

If you’re 21 years old in Sudan, you’ve lived through dictatorship, a civil war, ethnic cleansing and one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. ⁣

The war in Sudan, which started in April 2023 between Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has displaced about 10.7 million people. ⁣

The UN says half of Sudan’s population, about 25 million people, require humanitarian assistance and protection. ⁣

Happy 🖤Black🖤 History Month!

Heavy on the celebration. Heavy on the joy. Heavy on the liberation.

Because Black existence is more than pain and trauma. That is only part of our story. But there’s so much more.

It’s rebellious, it’s innovation, it’s endurance. It’s healing. It’s in our music, our laughter, our love, our call to rest.

Happy Black History Month, yall.

We finna cut up.

Did you know the vibrant attire of the women who dress colorfully in Cartagena, Colombia, is often inspired by the city’s rich cultural heritage and Afro-Caribbean influences?

The traditional dresses, known as “polleras,” and they are reflecting the lively spirit of the people and their connection to the region’s history. These colorful outfits have become iconic symbols of Cartagena’s cultural identity and are often worn during festivals, celebrations, and special occasions. Everywhere I see these dresses, I remember my time here ❤️

I love Colombia for how rich its culture is. The people are so warm and lovely to be around ❤️🇨🇴
