THAT THING THEY CALL SPARTAN RACE 💪
Yesterday, I ticked something off my bucket list. I joined my very first Spartan race. 💕
I did my last obstacle race 5 years ago at the NAS 5km obstacle race. Back then, I (felt and believed) that I was at my fittest and my fastest. Yesterday - it reminded me that I am no longer 35 years old. 😆
I followed everyone’s advice to pace it nicely at the beginning. Finished the first 5km at 57 minutes. Then the cramps took over. 😵💫 Something that I was praying for will not happen as this has always been my downfall.
Right at the bucket 🪣 obstacle, everything went downhill - literally. Lol
As I was about to carry the bucket back, I fell down about 1 meter off track from the race markings due to cramps. I took some time and waited for the pain to subside.
So picture this scenario (me being dramatic as always 😌) - My face planked on the floor - holding the gymnast tape that I pulled off my fingers. Feeling sorry for myself. “Insert dramatic soundtrack in this part”, telling myself, “I never thought this is going to be the end of you betch”. Hahahaha.
Special shoutout to “Owen”, I don’t know him personally, but he was the guy who pulled me back on the track. If not for him, - maybe you’ll get to hear from me by Monday only after the Spartan clears out the venue. 😂
After 4 cramp stops, 150 Burpees for the 5 obstacles that I could no longer do because I felt that my calves were already up my esophagus, I finished the entire course at 2 hours and 40 minutes and happy to be alive. 😂
I’ve learned one very important lesson, and as cliche as it sounds - “We All Fall - it’s how we get up that matters.” In life and in fitness, this has been my mantra. 🕉
After the race, my respect for everyone who does it has grown so much. I’ve experienced the pain and the effort myself, and I will never take that for granted. As a Coach, seeing some of my students rock and nail their races was such a joy to watch.
Congratulations to all the participants. 🫶🏼
Onwards and upwards we go. On to the next. 💪
