Been on a kick lately, snagging up a few issues of the UK version of the Marvel comic. The cover art alone is worth it, since there was so much more made for this version. Plus the extra stories that share the issues and cool B&W presentation. Over a great addition to the collection.

Rest in Peace Greg Hildebrandt. From work with your brother Tim on one of the most iconic of the original Star Wars movie posters, to art for Oreo earlier this year, what a legacy of gorgeous work and a wonderful human being. Prayers and condolences to the family.

Thanks to for another bang up job on this homage to the old ‘67 logo design, which I did years back but hadn’t done much with in awhile. Once again I love the deals they have to allow one to try things out. Invariably they always come out great.

On September 12th Topps announced a new partnership with Disney to create physical cards for Disney, Pixar and Marvel globally starting in 2025. Currently Upper Deck has had some of those rights in the U.S.

Starting with Topps Finest X-Men ’97 in Q1 2025, it will be a new era for Marvel cards, as well as a larger number of IP’s under the Fanatics roof. Although the impact for Star Wars card collectors may not be seen, a lot of this change affects the hobby around us.

To help analyze the changes I invited Ian Taylor of the Marvel Card Collectors Podcast , Stephanie Garcia of and sketch artist Michael Munshaw on for part one of a two part special on this new card landscape. Download now in your podcatcher of choice or click the link the bio! Thanks for listening and you can help the show out by putting out the word about the show! Look for part two soon!

Congrats to .fry.art & John Soukup for having their sketch cards featured in Magazine. One of the first things I always like looking for. Plus also has a nice feature on as well. Love seeing artists get some props!

The second of two custom sets I ordered from featuring art from the vintage Marvel comics. Once again you can check out his reels on how much work it is to isolate and make these look so clean on the card. There are multiple sets but as I said I chose the two that had Jaxxon in them. Plus this one had some other great characters from the early run. Very happy to finally get some of these. He also had some prints of a mock Star Wars Weekly comic with art by which you should check out.

‘This one a long time I have watched.’ Finally got to check out these awesome custom cards by - Taking some of the great vintage art of the old comics and crafting them into collector cards requires a lot of patience and skill. Check out some of the reels on his page and you’ll see how much work goes into it. Ther are a number of sets but I had an eye on getting sets with a Jaxxon in it ;) I’ll post the other 2A pack that also has more great classic characters. Well done!

Been having lots of fun with this Grevious sketch that has expanded to try to go full body. In the mean time I’ve sent the head shot off to for a take-off of the old 77 portrait sticker. Best thing about companies like Slapco is the specials that you can take advantage of for small orders to try out an idea.

Very happy to see the title card for next year’s Swag Pack come back from who did a nice job on this one. These cards pay homage to the first series of Empire Strikes Back from with the classic brushed metal border and inserts such Space Paintings by Ralph McQuarrie, checklists, Star Files and a title card. About halfway done with this set and it’s turning out quite well. And thanks to & for once again helping make these cards look good with their awesome cosplay. And in this case, trust your eyes that you see a smiling as one of the featured card images from STEAM into Star Wars earlier this year. Can’t wait to finish and start packing these up for next year!

No, card cases aren’t sexy, but they are damn useful. Picked up this 4 row one off of Amazon for the growing collection. I was looking for something with organizers and not bulky like my typical cardboard boxes. This had a solid magnetic closure and tows high enough to hold sleeved cards. The foam spacers are nice and the rows even held the plastic deck boxes, which can also double as seperators. I chuckled when I saw this came with a free set of dice. I went with a four row instead of the three since I figured with Twilight coming in November I wouldn’t immediately run out of room. Those are about 9x12. Getting geeky here, I’m still also keeping the release separate even though all cards at this point are still playable. Next step will be sorting by aspect and then some deck building. We are in the throws of high school volleyball so not much gaming will be done for a bit. I’m fine playing and collecting as I go to keep from amassing too many cards at this point. As with other games you will not want for cards and options as Fantasy Flight will be releasing 3 sets a year. I could almost see me replacing some of the bulky cardboard boxes with ones similar to this because they look nicer on shelves. Do you store your cards in boxes like this?

Anthony King returns to the podcast having recently returned from Anaheim, California and the big Event that took place at the Anaheim Convention Center there with other events taking place at the nearby Honda Center.

Having not known too much about the workings of such an event, I asked Anthony to come on and help me make the case why I should be planning on attending future D23’s. It’s a nice compliment to his recent D23 Extravaganza podcast episode. You can download now in your podcast player or click the Spotify link in my bio. Enjoy and comment below if you have either been to or would like to catch one of these events!

Thanks to for doing a bang-up job that goes into the next series of Swag Packs. Speaking of which, I’m nearly done with the title card, featuring & from the on the front. Been tweaking this card 10 ways to Sunday but just about done and almost ready to send off to the printer. This next set pays homage to the 1980 Empire Strikes Back sets. A greater challenge to replicate, but I’m digging how close I’m getting to the original designs.

is a relatively new game that I’ve been trying out these last several weeks. I enlisted the help of some friends to talk about it on the latest episode of the pod. Another chance to get in on a Thursday Draft night event at my local shop, - assembled a deck of cards I didn’t have a ton of yet which is cool. Also finally added Tech and Omega and some new shiny cards. Didn’t have a terrible night, going 1-2. Look for a new episode of the podcast coming soon talking all about - with myself, & which should be a gas. It’s been a fun time getting to play, although with High School Volleyball fast approaching, my fall will pretty much be spoken for. It’s a good game and I’m enjoying learning it further. And with another set coming at the end of the year, new cards to chase and play. Have you tried Unlimited yet? Comment below.
