সোমবার (২২ জানুয়ারি) আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রবেশের ওপর দুই বছরের জন্য একটি ক্যাপ (বিধিনিষেধ) ঘোষণা করেছে। দেশটি বলছে, এ সময়ের মধ্যে কিছু স্নাতকোত্তর শিক্ষার্থীদের কাজের অনুমতিপত্র (ওয়ার্ক পারমিট) দেওয়া বন্ধ রাখা হবে।

অস্ট্রেলিয়া
উচ্চশিক্ষার জন্য অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় দেশ অস্ট্রেলিয়া। বিদেশে পড়তে যাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে এ অঞ্চলের শিক্ষার্থীদের পছন্দের শুরুতেই থাকে অস্ট্রেলিয়া। দেশটির ক্যানবেরা, মেলবোর্ন, সিডনি, ব্রিসবেন, অ্যাডিলেড, পার্থ শহরে রয়েছে বিশ্বের প্রথম সারির অনেক শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান। সেই সঙ্গে অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় পড়তে যাওয়ার ভিসা পাওয়া তুলনামূলক সহজ। পাশাপাশি দেশটিতে পড়াশোনার সঙ্গে আছে খণ্ডকালীন (পার্ট টাইম) কাজের সুযোগ।

২০২২-২৩ অর্থবছরে মোট ১ লাখ ৭৯ হাজার আবেদনপত্রের মধ্যে ভিসা দেওয়া হয়েছে ১ লাখ ৬৬ হাজারের বেশি শিক্ষার্থীকে। করোনা–পরবর্তী দক্ষতা ও আর্থিক ঘাটতি পূরণে শিক্ষার্থী ভিসা মঞ্জুরের হার রেকর্ড পরিমাণ বেড়েছে।

অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় নতুন অর্থবছর শুরু আগামী ১ জুলাই থেকে। ২০২৩-২৪ অর্থবছরে দেশটির সব খাতের পাশাপাশি অভিবাসন খাতেও আসবে পরিবর্তন। তবে নতুন অর্থবছরে পুরো অস্ট্রেলিয়ার অভিবাসন প্রক্রিয়ায় বড়সড় রদবদল আসতে চলেছে। প্রায় দুই বছর আন্তর্জাতিক শ্রমবাজারের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগবিচ্ছিন্ন-প্রায় হওয়ার দরুন দেশটির শ্রমবাজারে সৃষ্ট ঘাটতি কমাতে নতুন প্রকল্প হাতে নেওয়া হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীরা ভিসা ক্যাটাগরিতে নানা সুবিধা পাবেন।

শিক্ষার্থীদের কর্মঘণ্টা বাড়ছে। করোনা সংকটের কারণে শিক্ষার্থী ভিসাধারীদের কর্মঘণ্টার সীমাবদ্ধতা তুলে নেওয়া হয়েছিল। তবে আসন্ন অর্থবছরে এ সুবিধা বন্ধের কথা থাকলেও এর পরিবর্তে আগের সপ্তাহে ২০ কর্মঘণ্টাকে বাড়িয়ে ২৪ ঘণ্টা করা হয়েছে, বহাল থাকবে এ বছরের শেষ পর্যন্ত।

শিক্ষা সমাপনী-পরবর্তী ভিসা ৪৮৫ টেম্পোরারি গ্র্যাজুয়েট ভিসারও মেয়াদ বাড়ানো যাবে। এ ভিসাধারী প্রার্থীরা স্নাতক পাস হলে দুই বছরের বদলে চার বছর, স্নাতকোত্তর হলে তিন বছরের পরিবর্তে পাঁচ বছর এবং ডক্টরাল হলে ছয় বছর বসবাস করতে পারবেন অস্ট্রেলিয়ায়।
