Working overtime. 👩🏻💻
With a German background, I thought I was going "the extra mile" to push my career. 📈
Until a Dane shockingly explained to me that in Denmark it has adverse affects. 😅

🌎HOW NOT TO MOVE ABROAD ❌No valid passport or visa - make sure that you have a passport that doesn’t expire anytime soon. Depending on the visa requirements, your passport might need to be at least valid for another 6 months. Make sure to check the deadlines & timelines for visa applications as it usually takes quite a long time to apply and it usually requires you to travel to the foreign embassy. E.g. for the USA and Kuala Lumpur, I needed to travel to Berlin much in advance to apply for my visa. ❌Not knowing the cost of living: this will bring you in big trouble if you don’t know the monthly budget you need and you might run out of money quickly. There are pages online where you can check the average cost of living per month by country e.g., livingcost.org❌Not caring about the required vaccinations: depending on the country you want to move to you might need to proof certain vaccinations. E.g., when I studied in Kuala Lumpur we had to proof certain vaccinations and had to undergo a medical test in Malaysia. ❌Forgetting to take care of health insurance: this can be one of the most fatal mistakes. Healthcare systems differ a lot. Whilst some countries hold a public state owned healthcare system, others require you to apply for your own private healthcare insurance. When I moved to the USA to work for Disney, I applied for a German private health insurance that would cover the USA. However, when I moved to Denmark to study, I was health insured with the Danish healthcare system Hence, you really need to check on what is common practice in the country you want to move to. Please remember that this is a very important topic. So you need to plan it and research it much in advance before moving abroad. #girlswhotravel #traveltheworld #travelblogger #expatblogger #travelphotography #travelawesome #expatwomen #whygoabroad #whytravel #clublifedesign #moveabroad #girlsabroad #livingabroad #howtomoveabroad #howtotravelabroad #tipsandtricks #journeyabroad #bud
1️⃣You need to make a decision on where to move. In my last podcast episode, Aadya gives some advice on how to choose where to study abroad. One aspect of it includes your budget (no.2). Once you’ve made your decision, you need to find out what documents and paperwork you need for the relocation to that specific country. The most common documents you need are: Passport and copy, Passport photo, Visa application form, Birth certificate, Proof of university enrollment, work contract/permit, Proof of income, if applicable, Private travel and health insurance, A declaration or certificate to prove no criminal records, Medical certificate as proof of good health and medical records, reducing immunizations, Proof of qualifications (if applying for a job)2️⃣One prerequisite before moving abroad, is to make sure to have enough savings. The amount of money you need depends on the destination and the cost of living in that country. To get an indication of the cost of living you can google for example at websites like livingcost.org that indicate e.g. living expenses in Denmark ranks 20th place (1665 Dollar) whilst Mexico ranks 118th place (713 Dollar). Hence, if the budget is an issue for you, try to look for countries that have a lower standard living cost. In some cases, you might need to have proof of savings for your visa application.3️⃣Healthcare systems differ a lot. Whilst some countries hold a public state owned healthcare system, others require you to apply for your own private healthcare insurance. When I moved to the USA to work for Disney, I applied for a German private health insurance that would cover the USA. 🌍My favorite benefit of moving abroad is..having the opportunity to travel more. The first time I developed my passion for traveling was when I moved to the USA to work for Disney. During this one-year gap year, I had the opportunity to travel around and quickly developed a passion for it. During this year I travelled to Miami, Tampa, Atlanta, the Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas. 🇩🇪 Similarly, living in Munich for my work assignment as given me the opportunity to travel to countries like Austria. During the past few weeks I travelled to Vienna and Salzburg and really liked both cities a lot. ❓How did you find your passion for traveling? #girlswhotravel #traveltheworld #travelblogger #expatblogger #travelphotography #travelawesome #expatwomen #whygoabroad #whytravel #clublifedesign #moveabroad #girlsabroad #livingabroad #howtomoveabroad #howtotravelabroad #tipsandtricks #journeyabroad #salzburgtravel #salzburg #travelsalzburg
