Instagram just rolled out another update to your Reels insights!
You’ll now see Retention in your metrics—this shows you exactly where people kept watching… and where they dropped off.
Yes, the line always trends down (totally normal). BUT the flatter the slope, the more people stuck around—which means you’re doing something right.
Instagram explains it like this:
“With Retention, you’ll always see a downward slope, but the flatter the line, the more engaged your audience is. Retention shows you the moments in your Reel that keep or lose your viewers’ interest.”
Instagram is also replacing view rate with a new metric: skip rate.
Skip rate shows how many people bailed in the first 3 seconds of your Reel.
So if your skip rate is high? Your hook might need a little work.
Bottom line: You’ll now have even more insight into what’s grabbing attention—and what’s not—so you can create content that keeps your audience watching.
