Can I just say I love it when you guys send me feedback and share your thoughts on the podcast episodes? Seriously message me anytime. Here are some thoughts on the Define Surrender episode:

Your whole topic is making me think of my favorite quote "If you wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans".

So concepts that I've been thinking about lately that totally have to do with what you're talking about:

1) Man's nothingness as compared to the fullness of God, but how in his grace he seeks to elevate us up to his level of importance. That starting point of being nothing is so essential to our education and progression as divine beings.

2) Surrender to facts and the reality of our situation is the starting point of becoming like God. Alma the Younger's education began with a bang as an angel spat hot facts at him and taught him how the world truly was and the powers that operate in it. Facts so hard they shoved him into a three day coma so he could process it.

3) Changing people is impossible, loving them as free entities is hard, especially when they go off and do super dumb things and maybe its okay to just close off emotionally as a way of protecting ourselves. Card carrying control freak who wants people I love to make good choices and not be disappointed when they don't.

4) When it comes to the concept of surrender, in a religious sense like in addiction recovery/ repentance, I always love it when its phrased as "will you give this to me(Christ)" he's paid for it regardless but he wants us to give him our burdens and not carry them alone. In a sense the power of the atonement only activates when a conscious choice on our part is made.

5) Surrender in In a mental health sense. I've been reading a bunch of Finlayson Fife recently for my own marriage, and she talks about the danger of wanting to be validated versus wanting to be instructed. Both produce a similar psychological feeling but without extremely different outcomes. Validation seeks to have an outside force say "you're good enough, it's okay, you're not in the wrong, no need for change here." A person who receives that kind of wording doesn't necessarily have any motivation to change. Instruction assumes that there are parts of the person that are incomplete or requiring refinement. It is a proactive acknowledgement that I am in need of a skill, a thought, an action that will improve my life.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kevin Flanigan!

TRIGGER WARNING: ABUSE

Hi, Kaili! I hope you don’t mind me reaching out to you like this.

So far, I am really enjoying your podcast! I love how it’s real life, real people, and real experiences. This is why I’m reaching out to you.

I’m on Episode 9, and you’re talking about being grateful for things in your life. You also said except for trauma and abuse because you can’t be grateful for things like that.

I beg to differ on that. I was sexually abused when I was little. This same person also tried to kill me by strangling me when I was 16, which is what made my repressed memories of the molestation resurface. My ex-husband abused me in all ways but physical, and, yes, he did sexually abuse me in ways as well (r**e once, coercion almost every time, etc.).

I am extremely grateful for these experiences because they have made me into the strong person I am today. Because of the childhood sexual abuse, I can now sense or feel if a person near me is a Survivor or a perpetrator. This has helped me to be able to protect my girls over the years.

I went through the Pathway Program at my church a few years ago. Oh my goodness!! If it hadn’t been for the abuse in my past, I don’t think I would have ever been able to fully understand and appreciate Christ’s Atonement. I KNOW that He was with me during every horrific experience, and I will never be able to fully express my gratitude to and for Him for that.

Because of the abuse from my ex, I knew I had to wait however long it took for me to heal in many ways after the divorce before I even thought about dating (7-1/2 years). Because of what he put me through, I can spot many red flags fairly quickly.

It has taken me a very long time to get to this point in my life, but I just wanted to give you my perspective on how Survivors can become grateful for the trauma and abuse they’ve endured. (In saying it that way, I just realized that there is a difference between suffering and enduring the abuse. Always saying that I’ve endured it has also helped me to become stronger in all ways.)

Thank you for “listening,” and keep up the awesome work on your podcast!

I did a cosplay photoshoot a couple of weeks ago and at one point I COMPLETELY biffed it. So what did I do? Slid down the rest of the way, turned around, smiled, and gave the photographer a thumbs up.

You're going to fall on your face a lot in your life, especially when you're trying something out for the first time. And honestly I don't look great in every picture but it was something I have wanted to do for a long time and the perfect opportunity came along! I'm so glad I did it and I wasn't afraid to look stupid or fall because this is a project I was EXCITED about.

Do what you want to and who cares if you biff it. The point is you went for it and it was awesome. What is something you just went for and are so glad you did?

Well Hello!

Hi there! My name is Kaili. Being divorced with two kids, a recent college graduate, and starting a new career by 25 was a fun first quarter of my life. 4 years later, I take all the twists of turns of learning to rely on Heavenly Father, being a single mom in the LDS church, dating, forgiveness, and more and put it into a 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, or 2400 minute speech. Get ready to laugh, cry, and feel hopeful about the future. Please email or reach out on Facebook to book me for your event.
