The Summerhill Shimla landslide was a tragic event that claimed the lives of 21 people and injured many more on August 14, 2023. The landslide occurred at a Shiv temple that was crowded with devotees who had come to offer prayers on the sixth Monday of the Sawan month, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall that has been battering the state of Himachal Pradesh for the past few days.
The rescue operations were carried out by the SDRF, NDRF and the Indian Army, with the help of local administration and volunteers. The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, visited the site and expressed his grief and condolences to the families of the victims. He also announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. He said that all possible efforts are being made to save the lives of those who are still trapped under the rubble.
The state government has declared holidays for all schools and colleges in the state till August 16, and has advised people to avoid going near rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas. The state has also requested the Centre for additional funds and relief materials to deal with the situation. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has also expressed his sorrow over the incident and assured full support from the central government.

- The Chief Minister's Relief Fund, which is a government-run fund that collects and distributes money for various relief and rehabilitation activities in the state.
- The Himachal Pradesh Red Cross Society, which is a humanitarian organization that provides medical aid, shelter, food, clothing and other essentials to the disaster victims.
- The Goonj Foundation, which is a non-governmental organization that collects and delivers clothes, blankets, utensils, sanitary pads and other items to the needy people in disaster-hit areas.
- The GiveIndia Foundation, which is an online platform that connects donors with verified NGOs that are working for various causes, including disaster relief.

There are women cells for the welfare of women in India. However there are no particular cells for the men and their families. So we demanded the women cell authorities to convert these women cells to family cells. So that both side story will be heard and proper justice could be decided at the first level of complaint. The encouragement we received from the women cell authorities was tremendous. Sho police from Mohali phase -8 and Chandigarh sector -17 women cells totally agreed with our legitimate demand and assured to take step in making this change.
