Thrifting vs. Charity Shopping What’s the Difference?
Even though people (me included) often use both the terms thrifting and charity shopping aren’t exactly the same thing.
Here’s why…
💚Thrifting
What it means 💚 Buying second hand items clothes, furniture, books, everything!
Where it happens Thrift stores, vintage shops, resale boutiques, markets, or even online platforms like Vinted, Depop, or eBay.
Goal Finding bargains, unique pieces, or vintage gems.
Profit goes to The business running the shop usually not a charity.
💚Charity Shopping
What it means 💚 Buying second hand from shops that exist to raise funds for a charitable cause
Where it happens
Shops run by charities (Air Ambulance, St Luke’s, East Cheshire hospice shops British Heart Foundation, Salvation Army, etc.)
Goal Supporting a cause while finding something you love.
Profit goes to a specific charity or mission.
💡 Quick Way to Remember
Thrifting = About the find
Charity Shopping = About the cause
Both are sustainable, affordable, and great for the planet 🌍
