11 đđđ Topics you and your band mates should be talking about today at band practice!!!
1. Social media. Itâs simply an essential tool to maximize success in the modern music environment. The more people chip in the less stress on individuals that understand this responsibility. All band members ( and staff if you have them ) should be contributing to the bands value daily and weekly on social media platforms. As William likes to say âYouâre either making content online or youâre consuming it.â This is true for each moment and minute we are spend in our lives online.ïżŒ
2)Maintain and organize your own budget and schedules. Remember this is supposed to be your dream! Prove it !! Your band mates are not your secretary. This is tough for some bands to hear but being late is stealing from your band members. Make calls, send texts, stay updated and prompt up to date. Communication is key! Utilize technology, apps , AI and calendars, smart watches.
3)Avoid âpracticingâ songs and sweet moves at shows. Practice on your own free time first, then perfect your skill (that you practiced on your own time) at rehearsals with your team.
Donât try to make up practices by performing what you should have practiced on stage. (discover Learn practice rehearse perform)
4)Donât watch your Band members pay the bills. They know. When more people all help contributing to one project, many times itâs so much less expensive and easier to organize. If you work too hard to be separate from your group, in end you will only wind up being separate from your group.
5)Avoid making the claim or saying âHaving a band is a businessâ while talking about the band and treating it like a hobby around your buddies, co workers and family. Theyâre never going to come and check out your show with an attitude like that. Say what you mean and mean what your say.
6)All band members should routinely be making new friends, sending messages, starting conversations with colleagues, calling family members and participating in activities/relationships that promote attendance and drawing new visitors and fans to the shows media , music and vision. Stop complaining about empty floors without filling them!!
7)MERCH! All members of your band should be selling merch. This isnât just a job for your merch girl. On and off the stage, every band member should help contribute to and sell merch , tickets and music regularly. Remember bands are business? Right ⊠đ€š
8)Utilizing and contributing a large portion of your personal and individual SPARE time and FREE time daily and weekly to research, take notes , brush up new skill sets , create art or content that directly boosts your bands knowledge, networking, value and skill sets that add directly to your bands value. Create conversations around this and allow them to pitch in !
9) When you gather the team Come prepared!! Double down on activities and see how much you can get done repurposing and combining efforts. Ask questions and do some research. The more you can get done in preproduction and preparation before any band project allows you and the team more flexibility, maximizing, time, resources, and quality results for the entire group. Draw straight lines bring your work closer and plan to do things once so you donât have to do them again.
10)Take notes, document and record as much as you can ! On your phone on pads of paper, use a whiteboard or tablet. This is great for auditioning ideas, think tanks and drafting concepts.
Not only is this another awesome to repurpose for bookmarking ideas or making content, but itâs also another level of accountability and a snapshot of your career climb everyone can observe and respect in real time.
11)Donât just stand there. Help!
Host seasonal and annual band meetings, where everyone can get together and look each other in the eye and just be human beings. Ask each of your band members out loud, routinely and see what people in your band need help with -
If youâre in a band, it doesnât matter what instrument you play. Every band. Member should be helping each bandmember do the following :
Loading in, making content, inventory, shooting video, going live, accounting help booking shows, crafting merch, story boarding, researching organizing, maintaining and cleaning gear, unpacking trucks, making reservations, connecting with other bands and micro influencers, public figures and photographers, scheduling appointments, communicating with radio stations, playlists press, networks, chatting with fans, building the groups and looking for a new and creative ways the band can get an advantage using spare and free time.
