Triumph Over Trials: The Resilient Spirit of SVSF High School
Fiona Kate Duplon

San Vicente San Francisco High School (SVSFHS) is more than just an educational institution; it's a beacon of hope for countless students in the province of Pampanga in Macabebe. Established in 1966, the school has been a source of knowledge, skill development, and resilience for many generations. Its legacy, however, is not just built on academic excellence, but also on its indomitable spirit in the face of adversity.

In 1991, the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano brought devastation to many parts of the Philippines, including Pampanga. The ashfall from the eruption blanketed homes, roads, farms, and clogged drainage systems. But nature's wrath did not stop there. In 2013, Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, wreaked havoc in the country. Pampanga, though distant from the typhoon's eye, was not spared. It suffered intense flooding, turning streets into rivers and homes into islands. SVSFHS, unfortunately, bore the brunt of these calamities, with its classrooms frequently submerged in floodwaters.

Yet, adversity seemed only to strengthen the resolve of the SVSF community. Teachers, undeterred by the challenges, innovated and found ways to continue imparting knowledge. Their unwavering commitment inspired students to pursue their dreams, irrespective of the hurdles in their path. Francentians, as SVSFHS students are fondly known, have continuously used their knowledge, skills, and valor to proudly represent their school in numerous fields.

Despite its challenges, SVSFHS has remained a center of community spirit, bringing people together through vibrant events like the color fun run, Flores de Mayo, and other engaging activities. These events not only highlight the school's commitment to holistic education but also showcase its undying spirit and unity.

Today, as the world grapples with the unpredictable shifts in our environment, it is crucial to derive inspiration from institutions like SVSFHS. Their story of perseverance serves as a testament to the human spirit's capability to rise above challenges. The school stands as a metaphorical edifice, reminding us that with unity, determination, and courage, no challenge is insurmountable. Let's imbibe this spirit of resilience and face every adversity head-on, for just like SVSFHS, we too can remain unbroken and strong.

No One Should Be Left Behind: SVSF HS Launches Annual RSO Election
Jhimmuel Ivan Austria

In a bid to foster a sense of community, leadership, and engagement among its student body, San Vicente-San Francisco High School (SVSF HS) recently conducted its annual Recognized School Organization (RSO) election for the academic year 2023-2024 held on the 29th of September.

The election, held from September 22 to 29, 2023, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of students eager to take on leadership roles and contribute to the school's vibrant extracurricular landscape.

The SVSF HS RSO election is more than just a routine event; it symbolizes the school's commitment to nurturing the potential of its learners and recognizing the invaluable contributions of learner-led clubs and organizations.

This commitment is backed by the office of the Undersecretary for Operations (OUOPS), in collaboration with the Bureau of Learner Support Services-Youth Formation Division (BLSSYFD), which has pledged support to all students, aiming to instill effective leadership skills that will contribute to their holistic development.

One of the central tenets of this initiative is the belief that all learners should have the opportunity to be part of at least one club or organization.

It is not only about participation but also about giving students the freedom to choose the organizations that align with their interests and passions.

This year, SVSF HS took a step forward by officially launching two new organizations: Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) and the Oratorical, Writing, and Communication Society (ORAWCO).

Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) is designed as a preventive education and information program aimed at countering the dangers and disastrous effects of drug abuse. It seeks to empower individuals to become catalysts within their peer groups, advocating for a healthy and drug-free lifestyle through involvement in various wholesome activities.

The Oratorical, Writing, and Communication Society (ORAWCO), on the other hand, is a school-based organization conceptualized by the English Faculty members from senior high school. Its primary goal is to enhance the four major micro skills of communication among learners, especially in the use of language in general. This initiative is expected to sharpen students' abilities to express themselves effectively and confidently.

Sir. Archie Paul Sta Rita, the SSLG adviser, emphasized the pivotal roles these organizations play in bringing students together based on their interests and building meaningful relationships. Beyond fostering a sense of camaraderie, these clubs and organizations are instrumental in maintaining the orderliness and safety of the school premises.

Furthermore, the newly elected officers of these clubs and organizations will play a vital role in providing extracurricular activities to offer students a break from academic pressures. These activities serve as creative outlets, allowing students to explore their interests, passions, and talents beyond the classroom.

The culmination of this exciting election process will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023, when the newly elected club and organization officers will officially take their oath of office.

This event marks the beginning of a new chapter in SVSF HS's commitment to holistic student development, ensuring that no student is left behind in their pursuit of personal growth, leadership, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

Rising to Lead: The Inspiring Journey of a Teacher Turned Head Teacher
Kassandra Nica Pineda

Once upon a time, there was a girl who used to dream big. An enormous dream. She wants to be a civil engineer. An engineer of amour. Artificer of fine craft and arts. She envisioned herself designing and constructing grand structures that would stand the test of time, inspiring awe and admiration in all who beheld them. From a young age, she was fascinated by the intricate details and functionality of buildings, captivated by the idea of bringing her imagination to life through architecture.

Works of art, like tall bridges, large factories, sophisticated industrial machinery, or other things we call engineering, seek to impose the same intense, intricate impression on the observer.

Oh, well. As the saying goes, "Expect the Unexpected." Life is full of surprises and twists that we often cannot anticipate. These unexpected events can be both positive and negative, shaping our experiences and teaching us valuable lessons along the way. Embracing the unknown and being adaptable can help us navigate life's uncertainties with resilience and grace.

"Kaya lang, ang mother ko is teacher siya. Gusto niya na magteacher din ako," she whispered across the teaching materials.

She glanced at the stack of books and papers in front of her, feeling a mix of admiration and pressure. Despite her own dreams and aspirations, she couldn't help but understand her mother's desire for her to follow in her footsteps. The passion for teaching seemed to run in their blood, creating a deep connection between them.

Perhaps it is her destiny to roll the carpet and light the way out of the darkness so that she can lead her future endeavors. A teacher who will help their students realize their greatest potential and allay any worries they might be experiencing. Additionally, she aspires to instill in her students a sense of resilience and perseverance, empowering them to overcome challenges and embrace their unique strengths.

Alas! She's now grasping her knowledge and perseverance to deliver it to hundreds and hundreds of hearts—a spread of words to cheer up opportunities.

She also emphasized that disciplined students have personal goals and are goal-oriented. They know that having goals helps them succeed and achieve their objectives. Students who follow the rules accept assistance from others but do not wait for it. Instead, they take initiative and actively seek resources and support to help them achieve their goals. These students understand that success is not solely dependent on external factors but also their own determination and effort.

"Kahit saan kayo pumunta, hindi dapat puro talento o talino, disiplina din."

After 30 years of dedicated service, she has been promoted to Head Teacher I in the TLE department. One of the outstanding teachers at the school. Her commitment to her students and passion for teaching has made her a respected figure among her colleagues and students. She consistently goes above and beyond to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment, earning her the admiration of all who have had the privilege of being in her classroom.

The journey to becoming Head Teacher was no ordinary feat; her story was one of perseverance, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her craft. It was a story that resonated with every educator who had ever dared to dream big.

To prove this, she has been able to complete her master’s degree with a major in Educational Management at Don Honorio Ventura State University. Her journey to achieving her master's degree was marked by dedication and unwavering commitment. Throughout the rigorous program, she displayed a deep understanding of educational methodologies and a passion for driving positive change in the realm of education.

Attaining her master's degree was not merely a personal achievement for her—it was a pivotal milestone that equipped her with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in the dynamic world of educational management. Armed with this newfound expertise, she is poised to make a significant impact on the education landscape, elevating the standards of teaching and administration. Her dedication to academic excellence and her deep-rooted commitment to the betterment of education are driving forces that will undoubtedly shape her tenure as a Head Teacher, inspiring students and fellow educators alike to strive for greatness in their educational pursuits.

The promotion to Head Teacher was a culmination of her years of service and dedication. It symbolized not only her professional growth but also the trust and respect she had earned from her colleagues and administration.

"I'm incredibly honored to take on this new role," she shared with humility. "I see it as an opportunity to continue serving our students and parents, to make our school an even better place for learning."

"Nakatatak sa atin na ang SVSF ay mahusay, magaling, ata disiplinado."

Oh, who is she?

She's none other than Mrs. Ethel V. Dulu.

The promotion of Ma’am Ethel to Head Teacher serves as a reminder that educators like her are the unsung heroes of our society. Their dedication to shaping young minds is a labor of love that leaves an indelible mark on the future.

In the halls of San Vicente San Francisco High School, Ma’am Ethel's influences live on—a testament to the transformative power of passionate educators who teach not only with their minds but also with their hearts.

As she embarks on this new chapter, she continues to inspire students, teachers, and the entire community, proving that education is a journey of lifelong learning and endless possibilities.

Her story reminds us that true success lies not only in following our dreams but also in embracing the opportunities that come our way, even if they lead us down unexpected paths. Through her unwavering dedication and commitment, she has become a beacon of inspiration, illuminating the hearts and minds of countless students and colleagues alike.

Ma’am Ethel’s tale is a fairytale triumph of education with a heart, where the unexpected twists and turns only add to the beauty of the journey.

Kassandra Nica Pineda

San Vicente San Francisco High School (SVSF HS) organized a week-long Brigada Eskwela from August 14 to 19, 2023, which involved the active participation of teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

These individuals generously volunteered their time and skills to contribute towards the successful ex*****on of clean-up activities, as well as minor to medium repairs and maintenance work within the classrooms and the school premises.

The Brigada Eskwela 2023 initiative, centered around the theme "Bayanihan Para sa MATATAG na Paaralan," will be implemented in all public schools nationwide.

Its purpose is to prepare for the commencement of the School Year (2023–2024), scheduled to begin on August 29.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has reminded school heads to ensure that the conduct of the BE aligns with its objectives of volunteerism and "Bayanihan."

The Brigada Eskwela coordinator, Ma'am Margie Ferrer, expressed her appreciation for the volunteers who assisted in the restoration efforts despite the challenges posed by the flooding.

“Alam niyo, kahit na ano man ang pagsubok basta kumatok ang bayanihan, dadating tayo. Susi ng mundo ang bayanihan ” she uttered.

“Ito ang dahilan kung bakit mahalaga ang pagtulong-tulong ng bawat isa. Sa pamamagitan ng bayanihan, nagkakaroon tayo ng lakas at determinasyon na harapin at malampasan ang anumang hamon na dumating sa ating buhay,” she added

In addition, Head Teacher III, Florita A. Garcia, displayed her enthusiasm toward the student volunteers.

The SVSF HS is geared toward individuals who are successful, values-oriented, and strong Francentians, she mentioned.

Ma’am Garcia emphasized that the SVSF program aims to cultivate leadership skills, promote community service, and instill a sense of responsibility among the student volunteers.

She further highlighted that being a strong Francentian entails embodying the school's core values and actively contributing to the betterment of society.

The Vice President of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG), Narnia Joreen Sarmiento, described her participation in Brigada Eskwela 2023 alongside other officers as a fulfilling and impactful experience.

They actively engaged in activities such as cleaning classrooms, repainting walls, and organizing school supplies to ensure a conducive learning environment for their fellow students.

Additionally, they collaborated with teachers and community members to brainstorm innovative ideas for improving the school infrastructure and implementing sustainable practices.

,” she emphasized.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that there was a significant room reconstruction effort, specifically focused on the classrooms in the Congressional Building. This was necessitated by the unfortunate event of the ceiling collapsing due to Typhoon Egay.

During the Brigada Eskwela, assistance was provided by various beneficiaries, including the 4P's beneficiaries, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, police officers, and barangay officials.

These beneficiaries offered their manpower and financial support to ensure the successful reconstruction of the classrooms.

Together, they worked tirelessly to repair the damages caused by the typhoon and create a safe learning environment for the students.

Their collective efforts showcased the power of community collaboration in overcoming challenges and uplifting the education sector in the aftermath of natural disasters.
