The final artist in our lineup on track 12 is “hyphonc”, based in Berlin. “I go by different names, but for this track it's hyphonc.”

From the artist:

“The track is from my album "Words Don't Come Easy", which is a mix of abstract instrumental hip hop, a bit of jazz, and other silly stuff. This track in particular is also inspired by Kenian music, particularly that of the Gusii people.

The track is called "The Dream of Unity", and what's meant is no less than the unity of all mankind. On a musical level this is realized by blending seemingly disparate elements together.”

Track number 11 is by Kthonos, based in the Netherlands, and falls in the “Hard Melodic/Rave Techno”

About the track:

“The sunflower is the national flower of the Ukraine and inspires hope. With Field of Sunflowers this is what I want to represent as well. With hard hitting kicks (the invaders) but uplifting melodies that we should always hope for better times.”

Track 10 was made by “No Sir” based out of Brooklyn, NY. The artist “didn't really set out to work within any specific genre when making this track, but I can hear now how it draws on the kind of stuff I listen to a lot - percussion-based club and techno.”

“This track started as something completely different that I set aside for a long time. I think I only ended up saving a few elements from the original, a few melodic parts here and there and maybe the kick. Again, I didn't have any real plan when I started it, but after playing around with different arrangements I liked the idea of it starting with a kind of sparse and mysterious atmosphere that gets tied together by the more dramatic bass in the second half.”

Solidarity: VA for Ukraine is out now, link in bio
Track ID: “tot Puin” by Whistle & Klont

In support of the registered charity Voices for Children, 100% of the profits from Solidarity V/A will be donated to the organisation providing psychological and psychosocial support to children who suffer from war operations. Currently situated on the frontlines of Donetsk and Luhansk, Voices for Children continue their mission to help every child affected by the war in Ukraine.

The Solidarity V/A is composed of twelve tracks produced by artists from all over the world. Curated by Xul Rether, the release showcases the sounds of Whistle & Klont, Marlu, Track, Jör9, Pale Blue Sky, Franco Bertoli, Kthonos, Ghost Of Black Wood, hyphonc, Yarck, Short Wave Research Group and No Sir. Each artist brings their own flavour to Solidarity V/A, with a stellar selection of 90s-influenced techno, futuristic electro, sultry EBM, experimental sounds, and broken rhythms. While some tracks align with a heaving dancefloor, like the progressive ‘Boo’ by Marlu or the rolling ‘Light in Hell’ by Franco Bertoli, others lean into more reflective listening, like Whistle & Klont’s haunting ‘tot Puin.’

Highlighting the nature, people and history of Ukraine, some artists weave their personal experiences of the country before and during the war. Dutch producer Yarck calls his electro-fuelled track ‘Landscape Alley’ after the eponymous hill in Kyiv, adorned with Alice in Wonderland-inspired sculptures. With family ties in the city of Sevastopol in Crimea, Shortwave Research Group produced his hip-hop-tinged track of the same name as a tribute to the region. Kthonos calls his powerful tune ‘Field of Sunflowers’ after the national flower of Ukraine, with a blend of hard-hitting kicks but uplifting melodies to inspire hope in difficult times.

Respect, love and admiration to all our friends in Ukraine.
