In this special vehicle feature, QA1 takes a closer look at Andrew's 1949 Oldsmobile—a classic car with a deep family history and an inspiring journey back to life. Originally owned by Andrew's father, the car was sold and lost for years, only to be rediscovered after his father's passing. With a desire to honor his dad's memory, Andrew brought the Oldsmobile to QA1, where our tech team took on the challenge of creating a custom suspension setup for this non-catalogued vehicle.

Watch as they explore the process of adapting QA1's performance technology to the ’49 Oldsmobile, transforming it from a sentimental project into a fully capable, street-ready machine. From overcoming fitment challenges to crafting a ride that’s equally aggressive and smooth, this build truly demonstrates the spirit of innovation and family legacy. https://bit.ly/4hEqIKE

Bill's 1963 Pontiac Tempest is a completely custom creation with inspiration from the "Tameless Tiger" drag car of Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick. As fate would have it, Arnie checked out Bill's Tempest and even wrote a nice note on the dashboard. The Tempest started out as a doner car for a restoration project for Bill's wife. Once all of the useful parts had been stripped, he couldn't bring himself to get rid of the car, so he started building it into a pro-street monster. Today, the car makes over 800hp on pump gas with a fully-built supercharged Butler 421 V-8 and a Rossler Transmission. Growing up drag racing in Huntington Beach, Skrape never forget this slammed '55 Chevrolet that caught his eye. Years later, when he came across a similar '55 Chevy he knew he had to have it.

What started as a personal connection soon turned into a full-blown SEMA Association build. The result? A wild and vibrant purple color, paying tribute to one of his dearest friends. It's become his absolute favorite car.

However, when he first finished it, the ride was less than ideal. Leaf springs and gas shocks made it a rough journey. That's when Skrape decided to team up with Aldan American. The moment they swapped in those new Aldan shocks, it was a game-changer. https://bit.ly/3YC1FjH

Highlights from the Texas NHRA FallNationals! Matt Cummings drove the McPhillips Racing A/Fuel Dragster to his sixth career victory, stopping JEGS Performance Allstars winner Julie Nataas in the final. Cummings, who now has won at least one national event in each of the last four seasons, collected the win on a 5.24 to 5.26 count in the final.

Sean Bellemeur may have already wrapped up his fourth Top Alcohol Funny Car world championship, but he’s not done winning. After winning the JEGS Allstars competition on Sunday, Bellemeur and the Killer Bs won their sixth national event of the season by defeating Brian Hough in the final, 5.49 to 5.55.

Division 5 standout Matt Harris collected his first career national event win in Comp, wheeling his E/A '05 Grand Am to a final-round (-.49) 7.70 to defeat Keith Mawhee’s better-but-later (-.50) 8.05.

Following a pair of runner-up finishes in national events, and a final round showing in the JEGS Allstars race, Justin Picillo picked up a long-awaited national event title with a narrow final round victory against Craig Gaultiere, who broke out by .015-second.

Michael Brand earned a clean sweep in Dallas with both the JEGS Allstars title and the Texas NHRA FallNationals win in Stock. Brand, who is solidly in the Top 10, used an 8.833 on his 8.82 dial to take out new championship leader Jimmy Hidalgo Jr., who trailed by .008 at the stripe.

The Right Trailers Top Dragster field in Dallas was one of the toughest in the history of the class and Jim Prevo was the last man standing after defeating three-time Indy winner Brad Plourd in the final round. Prevo claimed his second national event win after Plourd slowed.

Two years after scoring a runner-up at this event in his first career final, Kyle Secrest went the distance in 2024 in Super Comp, beating Division 6 JEGS Allstars rep Michael Dalrymple in a thrilling double-breakout final round, 8.875 to 8.870.

A day after winning the JEGS Allstars competition in Super Comp, Tom Stalba returned to the winner’s circle in Super Gas, tying a brilliant .008 reaction time to a near-perfect 9.901 to force Rusty Cook into an 8.894 breakout loss.

Jordan Pratt made the long drive south from Minnesota pay off with his first career national event victory, winning an exciting double-breakout bout in Super Street with JEGS Allstars winner Alan Bush, 10.897 to 10.859.

After a pair of runner-up finishes in Brainerd, Michael Chitty broke through for his first NHRA win in Right Trailers Top Sportsman. Chitty survived a close double-breakout against Macy Higgins in the final winning with a 6.571 on his 6.58 dial. Video here: https://bit.ly/4eOUEBM

15/10/2024

Hemmings is excited to return to the 2024 SEMA Association in Las Vegas with an all-new build, the 1970 Dodge Charger Sangria. Built by Blazin' Rodz, a renowned California-based custom shop, this notable vehicle will be unveiled during a press conference on Wednesday, November 5th at 12:30 PM at Booth #22493. The following day, automotive legend The Official Chip Foose will make a special appearance for an exclusive signing event from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.

Built to impress under the expert craftsmanship of Riccardo Salatino and his team at Blazin’ Rods, Sangria is a true work of craftsmanship, blending high-performance hot rod engineering with custom exotic car design. With over 1500 horsepower delivered by a serial #1 1500 HP Hellephant engine and featuring a carbon fiber body from Finale Speed, this Charger has been selected for the prestigious SEMA Battle of the Builders competition. Riccardo utilized a combination of modern 3D modeling techniques and old-school coachwork fabrication to bring this vision to life. Following its unveiling, this showstopper will be listed for sale on Hemmings.com’s Make Offer platform.

As part of Hemmings’ presence at SEMA, attendees will also have the opportunity to meet automotive icon Chip Foose, one of the most influential automotive designers and builders in the industry and SEMA Hall of Fame Inductee, on Thursday, November 6th. He will be signing limited edition posters of the 1953 Oldsmobile Covertible, a classic car purchased from Hemmings Classifieds that has remained largely untouched since 1958. In addition to the signing, Chip will have the 1953 Oldsmobile Kustom displayed at the SEMA show. This unique vehicle, featuring Candy Apple Red paint and Dean Jeffries’ original scalloping, has been a true highlight of Foose’s collection. The restored car will also be relisted on Hemmings.com.

Hemmings’ presence at SEMA also extends beyond the show floor. Blazin Rodz has been filming a 10-part TV series documenting the Sangria build and offering enthusiasts an inside look at the meticulous work behind the scenes. The series will debut on ROKU, with the last episode being filmed during the unveiling of the build at the Hemmings’ SEMA booth.

"Our return to SEMA this year is a celebration of the best in automotive craftsmanship. Sangria represents the heart of what we do at Hemmings—connecting car lovers with extraordinary builds. We’re honored to be unveiling this stunning Charger and are thrilled to have Chip Foose join us for another unforgettable year," said Jonathan Shaw, President of Hemmings.
