OPEN LETTER TO (ONE OF THE ANCHORS OF BOMBO RADIO STATION) REGARDING HER CONDUCT ON THE ISSUE OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST SEAFARERS
GREETINGS AND GOOD DAY.
I AM SENDING THIS MAIL ON BEHALF OF MY FELLOW SEAFARERS TO DISCUSS THE CONDUCT OF ONE OF YOUR STATION ANCHORS WITH REGARDS TO THE ISSUE OF SEAFARERS VOICING OUT THEIR OPINIONS ON DISCRIMNATION.
BEFORE I DISCUSS YOUR MENTIONED ANCHORS’ CONDUCT, LET ME EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENT CLASSES OF SEAFARERS WORKING ONBOARD SHIPS.

4. GALLEY CREW (CHIEF STEWARD, CHIEF COOK, ASST. COOK, MESSMAN AND GALLEY TRAINEE) – THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR FOOD PREPARATION, VICTUALLING AND BUDGETING OF PROVISIONS
5. HOTEL STAFF (CABIN CREW, PORTERS, WAITERS, BARTENDERS, SECURITY PERSONNELS, ETC) – RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WELL BEING OF PASSENGERS ONBOARD PASSENGER VESSELS

2. SEAFARERS ARE ALSO LICENSED HOLDERS (WE ARE THE ONLY PROFESSION IN THE PHILIPPINES WHO ARE TAKING AT LEAST TWO BOARD EXAMINATIONS)
3. SEAFARERS ARE WELL TRAINED – BELOW ARE JUST SOME OF THE TRAININGS SEAFARERS UNDERGO DURING OUR SERVICE ONBOARD AND WHEN ON VACATION
A. BASIC SAFETY TRAINING IN LIFESAVING AND FIREFIGHTING
B. ADVANCED SAFETY TRAINING
C. SPECIALIZED TRAINING COURSES
D. TRAININGS ON HOW TO COPE WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS REPRESENTATIVES OF COUNTRY OF ORIGIN (PDOS), COMPANY REQUIRED TRAININGS, ETC

IT IS A LAW. IF YOUR ANCHOR HAS AN ISSUE WITH THAT. THEN SHE SHOULD DIRECT HER IRE TO THE INTENDED RECEPIENTS. AND THAT IS THE GOVERNMENT WHO PASSED SAID LAW.
FOURTH POINT, ON THE ISSUE THAT WE ARE NOT CONTRIBUTING TO THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY DIRECTLY. AND THAT ONLY OUR FAMILIES ARE BENEFITING FROM OUR EARNINGS. EVERY CENT, EVERY PENNY THAT WE EARNED WORKING ABROAD WE SEND BACK TO OUR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. THE MONEY WE SEND BACK HOME ARE USED TO BUY NECESSITIES WHICH IN TURN ARE TAXED BY THE GOVERNMENT. AS SUCH, THE GOVERNMENT BENEFITS GREATLY FROM OUR EARNINGS.
LASTLY, ON THE ISSUE THAT SEAFARERS/OFW ARE “TIKALON” FOR VOICING OUT AGAINST DISCRIMINATION BROUGHT BY THE COVID19 PANDEMIC. WHEN SEAFARERS/OFW’S BOAST OR FLAUNT THEIR CURRENT STATUS IN LIFE. I DO BELIEVE THAT FALLS WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF OUR RIGHTS. WE SACRIFICED LIFE AND LIMB FOR EVERY CENT THAT WE EARNED. WE BLEED FOR EVERY MORSEL THAT OUR FAMILIES ENJOY. NOW, BECAUSE OF THAT WE ARE BEING BRANDED BY YOUR ANCHOR AS SOME PRIVILEGED CHILD BORN WITH A GOLDEN SPOON IN THE MOUTH.
CONCLUSION, LIKE I STATED FROM THE START, I WILL NOW DISCUSS THE CONDUCT OF YOUR ANCHOR. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT BEING A JOURNALIST STANDS FOR TRUTH, EQUALITY, FAIRNESS AND OPINIONS BASED ON FACTS.
