I need to tell this story. The story of the door of Aida Refugee Camp.
Aida Refugee Camp and the Palestinian refugees.
When I think, why do the people in Gaza not leave - I remember this door with a symbolic key. The key represents all those houses that the Palestinians left behind them. And decades later they live, still without land, yearning for home.
A nation that refuses to be refugees for the rest of their lives. A nation whose existence is their resistance.
We conducted a Lahore Storytelling experience in androon Lahore. Talking about culture, history, traditions and people, we walked through the streets.

It doesn’t matter if we’re able to change the world or not - what matters is that we play our part 🙏🏾
Those of us who love peace, must learn to organise as effectively as those who love war
Karobar Kahani 2: Adeel Shahid started his business as a small cycle shop in Neela Gumbad Lahore. He now manages one of Pakistans biggest cycling communities.
His story is about building trust that helps form communities to run businesses. Ensuring you’re building relationships to build people’s confidence on you, that helps your business in the long run.
Personally I’ve been a fan of Adeel’s ikhlaq اخلاق and his humility that have made him a successful entrepreneur of Pakistan.
Pakistani Kahani 1: Chanda (fundraising) for 12 Rabi ul Awal Paharis
It is tradition that children collect funds collectively to make ‘Paharis’ for 12 of Rabi ul Awal (the prophet’s birthday). A pahari is a decorated model of a city made from mud. A group leader coordinates this street-effort and prepares budgets. Once enough funds are raised, the children then buy toys to decorate their Paharis.
An integral part of Pakistani culture, the Pahari-making-process is a fun way for children to celebrate and rejoice the happy days of Rabi ul Awal.

Ishq Kahani 10: Lahore’s Nawabi Zuljanahs
Horses that symbolise the horse of Imam Hussain. On the 10th Muharram it was the riderless horse that returned to the tents of Imam Hussain, and the women and children cried to see that the Imam was martyred.
The caretakers and servicemen of these specific Zuljanahs in Lahore are the Nawab Qizilbash Family. These horses roam the streets of Lahore with prestige and honour.
Decorated with extreme love and dedication, these horses are a South Asian way of paying homage to the king, the badshah Hussain ibne Ali.
Every time I come across a sabeel I ask the question:
Can everyone drink water from your sabeel? Even non-Muslims? Christians? Hindus?

• Giving Back •
In these challenging economic and political times that surround us, there is sukoon in giving back, in serving others. There is hope in community, in building bridges through kindness.
Serving others is self-healing. The algorithm of this universe is set to revert this kindness & generosity back to us.
Living in a world that persistently forces us to to compete and compare, serving others reminds us of our privileges. Helps us to appreciate what we have. Which often, is more than enough.
Every day hundreds of passionate volunteers turn up at the .sharefood Coke dastarkhwan and respectfully, serve meals to thousands.
Humility. Humanity. Happiness.

On Arbaeen day today - In solidarity with all those who are oppressed, we are walking to Karbala Gamayshah. These streets have seen enough hate, we fill these streets with ishq, with love.
Lahore is Karbala. Karbala is love.

Sukoon
In a world that thrives on dividing us, let’s be the force that unites. Difference in opinions, difference in customs, traditions or beliefs doesn’t mean we started hating on one another.
United in the shrine for Imam Hussain, a group of Shia & Ahle Sunnat friends pray together.
A man who rules our hearts, whose name brings tears to our eyes, always on our mind, his name on our lips.

Muharram, Art and Identity
As a part of identity, Muharram has a profound impact on how many of us think and express ourselves. These artists expressing their thoughts and emotions through their paintbrushes, pens and cameras.
Some Muharram related art:
1. Farwa Rizvi ( ): Mujra e khalq main in aankhon ne Kya Kya dekha
2. Ghazi Sikander( ): ‘Krishannagar; a juloos of Muharram’
3. Nad e Ali ( ): A portrait of Late Sardar Badhshah, a Zuljinah, at Lahore’s Nisar Haveli
4. Farwa Rizvi ( ): Khaak e Shifa
5. Syed Jeem ( ): ‘Panja’. Yeh Panja hai. Sakhi Aqa Abbas (a) ka panja
6. Kashaf Zaidi ( ): “حَيَّ على الفلاح” depicting Ali Al Akbar (as) calling people towards prosperity and success. It is as if he wanted to let people know on the day of ashura that there is still time to join the army of his father to gain eternal success and prosperity
7. Hussain Zaidi ( ): س = سپاہی Addressing the specific event when Abul Fazal Abbas fought his way to Furat to get water for Hussain's children
8. Ghazi Sikander ( ): ‘Discreet inhibition’. Living discreetly, expressing openly.
What is Muharram?
When friends, family, strangers come together to serve, when long lost cousins reappear, Muharram is community.
Muharram is food. Muharram is traditions. Muharram is event planning. Muharram is team work.
For the young of all ages, assigned tasks for majaalis and niyaz, Muharram is training.
For those who leave home and live in foreign lands, Muharram is longing for home, longing to return.
Late nights at the grandparents imam bargah or a taya ke ghar ki nyaz, Muharram is family.
Heading back to the village, or the ancestral home, Muharram is roots.
Open doors for friends or foe to come eat, Muharram is hospitality. Muharram is service.
Missing those no longer with us, lost traditions or moved homes, Muharram is nostalgia.
Late night post-majlis chais and then cleaning up, Muharram is get togethers.
Aunties rishta-hunting for sons and daughters, Muharram is eagle-eye-staring and waiting until RabiulAwal.
Passing down traditions, one generation to another, Muharram is culture.
A month with so many emotional highs and lows, Muharram is love.
Muharram and environmental sustainability 🙏🏼
