Team communication is critical.

"The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." – George Bernard Shaw

As a rugby coach, I preach communication on the field of play as essential.

I coach a sevens college team.

The sevens game is fast and demands movement, decision-making, and awareness all the time.

When you have two sevens teams playing on the field. A team is attacking the opposing team. Another team is defending their line. A team could be running at the goal line. Both team's players pass, catch, and tackle.

Chaos

They must ensure they are constantly aware of their team's positions and their own.
This means they are operating in a state of chaos.

The only way to ensure they stay connected as a team is when they are communicating. Vocally. Loudly. Consistently.

We build this into the team when they are practicing. Over and over, we shout, “Communication!”

We all know it has to become a habit.

Communication ensures there is order in chaos.

What Does Your Culture Offer?

Just before my son Jonathan’s thirteen birthday I read an article that touched me deeply.

It was a discussion about how most cultures “mark” their sons.

This is so they can identify with their roots.

Their progress through manhood would be marked.

The significance of each stage of their progress is celebrated.

This is most cultures except the western culture.

You’re a cute baby.
Then you’re a toddler.
Then a teenager.
And then you’re off to wherever.

Then, I read a book about how the knights of medieval times went through a rite of passage to receive their knighthood.

They would be with their mother as young boys. She would teach them the ways of the court.

They would then be released to become a page. And then onto a squire. Before knighthood.

As I pondered on this I thought, I need to do this for our sons.

I wanted them to know they are significant.
I wanted them to know they had progressed and had matured.
I wanted them to know their transitions into the new seasons of their lives.

On Jonathan’s thirteenth birthday(he’s not 35) I arranged a surprise for the night of his birthday.

I bought a pocket knife for him. Then I had it engraved with his birth date.

I asked his grandfathers (both) to write him a letter to celebrate his transition from childhood to young adult.

His mother wrote him a letter too.

I made a scroll with a declaration over his life.

A bunch of men and friends from our church community joined us for a steak dinner.

They all shared something of significance for his life with him before dinner.

Before his eighteenth birthday we moved to the USA as missionary workers. Jonathan stayed behind in South Africa to finish his studies.

When he finally arrived before his nineteenth birthday, we again arranged an evening for him.

We didn’t know many people at that stage in Jacksonville Florida. But we invited the friends we had made to join us for this important night.

This time I bought him a sword.

As I handed over the sword and the scroll, my heart was rejoicing and sad at the same time.

This was a new season for him. And for us.

Now we marked and celebrated his transition to full manhood.

He would now “ride” into the world to fulfill his mission.

Each of his brothers, our sons, went through the same rite of passage over the following years.

Wesley and then Jesse, on their thirteenth birthday and on their eighteenth.

It didn’t always work out the way we desired.

But Michelle and I made a decision and an effort to not miss the occasion, wherever we were in the world.

Dad’s and moms
Give your children something significant for their journey through life.
You hold a significant place in their lives.

Ground them.
Establish them. And…

Give them something to live for.

If I asked you the purpose for which God made you, what might you say?

To clarify the real purpose for your life here on the earth,...

Let's go to the original mandate...

Genesis 1:26-30 Amplified Bible

26 Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.”
27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28 And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

Rulership:- That's your purpose!

NOT over man, but over creation.

To have dominion:- That's your objective.

You are not subject to the 'forces' of this world system.
Jesus demonstrated the authority of the sons of man, the sons of God.

That was His purpose.

then, He said: ...

Matthew 28:18-19 Amplified Bible
18 Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations...

What Adam (mankind) lost
Jesus won back and restored it to us.

Purpose!

That purpose is authority and dominion.
Rulership as kings in this life.

"For if by the trespass of the one (Adam), death reigned through the one (Adam), much more surely will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in [eternal] life through the One, Jesus Christ."

Don't make this religious.

With this dominion and authority, we GO into all the world and cultivate it with good management so it grows, is fruitful, multiplies, and replenishes the earth.

God's design for you is not to just make it, but to be influential from your "Jerusalem to your Samaria, and to your uttermost parts of the world".

This is not pulpit preaching. This is dominion cultivation in all areas of industry and life, to make a difference.
To cultivate, the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Don't think small.

Start where you are. Manage what you have in your hand. Cultivate your area of responsibility. Be fruitful there.

Politicians can't do it. They create more problems. They don't have the mandate you and I have from our government in heaven.
They stand in man's power.

But we have the power of heaven. Exousia:- the authority to use the might of heaven.
You are ambassadors of heaven.

You represent the greatest kingdom, government, economic, healthcare, and political system in the universe. Seen and unseen. Known and unknown. Past, present, or future.
A King and His Kingdom.

That's why Jesus said:
Seek first the Kingdom...

This wasn't about going to a church meeting.
This was about establishing the Kingdom as the first (proton - first in order) order of business on the earth.

This is our purpose.

Go and establish it, and disciple people to this extraordinary, superior, supernatural life of the Kingdom of God.

Planning for 2022

We are a few months and weeks away from 2022.

It will be a new year with new opportunities and challenges for the world, for you, and your leadership.

Planning is probably the last thing on your mind as you wind down the year.
But ...

This is exactly the best time to do the planning for your next year.
Most leave it to the new year before looking at it.

Two problems with this:
You get too busy and planning gets put aside.
Planning becomes an interruption because everyone, including yourself, is already busy with tackling the new year and its challenges.

On a personal level, if you're leaving the planning of your new year to a few New Years' resolutions ... well, how did the New Year's last resolutions work out for you?

Like many others, they probably ended a few days or weeks, and if you're lucky a few months later.

Why?

Because New Years Resolutions are not grounded in any strategic actionable steps.
Because they are not necessarily aligned with your core values or those of your company, business, ministry, or organization, probably not even with your team.

Why planning?

You get clarity for direction for the next year.
You establish focus as you kick off the next year.
You gain a sense of clarity for your priorities and what is most important.
You know where to focus your attention.
You know where to manage your resources.

The American author H. Stanley Judd said:
A good plan is like a road map: it shows the final destination and usually the best road to get there.

King Solomon said it like this ...
Man PLANS his way, but God directs his steps.

You plan. God directs.
God cannot direct nothing.
He directs your plan.
He guides you as you take responsible action.
You give Him the plan. He can fill it, empower it, and guide it.

Mistakes Christians make in planning:

Saying "anything can happen!" Well, that's exactly what'll happen anything. And it may not be what you want.
Saying "the devil is in the details". No. God is in the details.
He gave Noah a clear plan 120 years before the crisis of a flood happened.
God gave Moses a very detailed plan on how to lead the people and how to build the sanctuary.
God gave David a detailed blueprint for the temple to be built. God is in the plan.

good leadership and
good management all begin with
good planning.

Galatians 5:1

Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.

At last we have freedom, for Christ has set us free! We must always cherish this truth[a] and firmly refuse to go back into the bo***ge of our past.

Where Is YOUR Faith?

Foundations are repentance from dead works AND faith toward God...

But why is it so many still struggle with faith, needing others to pray, living defeated lives?

The world is waiting for you to walk in your faith ...so what does it take?

Steve and I have resorted to doing only audio on the podcast and not the video on zoom.
The Internet quality was providing a very bad quality interview
And although nobody complained we know it is very hard to listen to bad audio and take in what we are talking about.
So thanks for your understanding.
The audio podcast is available on Apple I tunes, Google podcast, Spotify and others.
You can listen in on our weekly conversation whenever you like… while driving, cooking, walking, cleaning …

We never intended it to be some professional preachy presentation
But giving you the opportunity to be part of our conversation about our insights, journey, struggles, wins and challenges in the word and in our faith.
Steve and I have been doing this for many years - talking to each other and sharing and encouraging each other in the word.
We just felt that some - not all - would benefit from being able to listen in.

Enjoy!

James 1:2-4
The Passion Translation
2 My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!

3 For you know that when your faith is tested[a] it stirs up in you the power of endurance.

4 And then as your endurance grows even stronger, it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.
