Mid Air Collisions. They are the one thing that must not happen. If they do so anyways, it is always a huge number of factors going sideways, that makes them even possible.
Back in 2002, this happened over southern Germany when a DHL 757 and a Bashkirian Tupolev TU154 collided.
The List of errors made that day is long. And even with all those considered, it finally needed a huge portion of coincidence and bad luck for those planes to actually collide on that dreadful day.
Bad practice in ATC operations, a distracted controller, wrong reactions to the collision avoidance system, to low sinkrates, failing to level off at the assigned altitude.
Those are just some of the factors that led to this tragedy - The one that is to this very day the word aviation accident in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.
In our first english episode, Sarah and Sebastian not only talk about how this accident was even possible, but also about the aftermath as one victim of this accident was demanded almost two years after the crash.
