Hello listeners and AIPC crew,

we are truly sorry to announce, that episode 5 will not be released tomorrow due to illness.

we tried recording all week but it simply was not possible. So we will not release episode 5 this week, but in two weeks, as we do have too many scheduling conflicts to record prior to the regular release date of episode 6. We are really sorry that we had to make this decision as we were thrilled to release the episode on Helios 522.

All the best

Sarah and Sebastian

On June 1st 2009 an Airbus A330 disappears over the Atlantic Ocean. Debris is found the as early as the day after, however it took two years to find the actual wreck of the plane.

A finding that revealed a truly disturbing cause of an accident that should have never happened.

With Captain Nick from the Airline Pilot Guy Show, we have a guest on AIPC who is a former Airbus A330 pilot and a podcaster himself.

Make sure to visit and listen into the Airline Pilot Guy Show which is an outstanding weekly podcast on aviation covering the latest news, an awesomely interactive feedback section, and Nicks greatly researched and entertaining "Plane Tales" with a crew of professional pilots. APG is indeed the - now - 2nd best aviation podcast on the planet ;-)

Mid Air Collisions. They are the one thing that must not happen. If they do so anyways, it is always a huge number of factors going sideways, that makes them even possible.

Back in 2002, this happened over southern Germany when a DHL 757 and a Bashkirian Tupolev TU154 collided.

The List of errors made that day is long. And even with all those considered, it finally needed a huge portion of coincidence and bad luck for those planes to actually collide on that dreadful day.

Bad practice in ATC operations, a distracted controller, wrong reactions to the collision avoidance system, to low sinkrates, failing to level off at the assigned altitude.

Those are just some of the factors that led to this tragedy - The one that is to this very day the word aviation accident in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In our first english episode, Sarah and Sebastian not only talk about how this accident was even possible, but also about the aftermath as one victim of this accident was demanded almost two years after the crash.
