This is the long story short and a couple potentially hot tips :: I cut my teeth throwing shows in vermont from 2012-2014 at a diy space I co-founded called jenke arts. it was a magical time in my life.. one day I'll tell the whole story. I moved to Oregon in fall of 2014 and was lucky to fall into the and se portland arts scene ( or at least one of the many se portland art scenes). portland :: the music, the players, the friends - just like vermont I was surrounded by creative and kind people. the guys and I focused on gigging around portland and worked hard to put small tours together. skipping to 2018:: lets me book a tour and and my band open up the shows. the experience permeated my life. In 2019 I convinced :)) to let me run the show program at It was a risk but what isn’t? everything is a risk.. okay I'll stop. at bunk bar we did 20+ shows a month until covid shut it down. that was a crazy time. ::hot tip:: I learned a lot more about booking tours getting involved on the venue side then I did on the artist side. I'll try and wrap it up:: If you are independent and you want to tour (or do anything for that matter) you can figure out how to make it work, but it is a process that needs to be trusted (blindly).. At first, the tours you book might not look like the tours you see posted online but you have to start moving and don’t stop refining and examining your process. maybe you're moving in the direction of something that you can’t yet see. get ahead - be planning 6+ months out whenever possible. 3 years ago if you’d have told me that I’d put together a 50 show tour for one of my favorite songwriters , sharing bills with legends and I’d have told you you're 🔩‘s. thanks for taking the time out of your day & scroll right for a funny pic of the gang, and a few slides from the journey. I’m only sharing because I know how fu***ng hard it is to be an independent artist. I hope we all can believe humbly in our art and keep learning and growing and refining and enjoying this crazy journey.
