Mabon ap Modrun is the Celtic God of Mabon. In Celtic mythology, Mabon is known as the son of Modrun, the goddess of youth and vitality. He is also referred to as "the Divine Youth" and is often depicted as a handsome, youthful man with a playful nature.
According to legend, Mabon was taken from his mother's womb three days after his conception and was placed in a magical cauldron that gave him immense knowledge and wisdom. Because of this, he became known as the god of knowledge and intellect.
Mabon is celebrated during the autumnal equinox, which falls on September 22 this year. This celebration marks the transition from summer to fall and honors the balance between light and dark. It is believed that during this time, Mabon descends into the underworld, representing the descent into darkness and introspection.
In modern times, Mabon is seen as a symbol of balance and transition. As the days become shorter and the nights longer, it is a time to reflect on our own inner light and find balance within ourselves. This can be a challenging but necessary journey towards self-discovery and growth.
May we embrace the changing seasons with gratitude and welcome the darkness as a time for rest and renewal. And may we always strive to find harmony within ourselves just as Mabon symbolizes in his descent into darkness before emerging renewed once again.
