As of March 1, Google will no longer support Free Business Profile Websites. Affected businesses must migrate their websites to alternative platforms before the deadline if they wish to keep them online.

After that date, attempting to access these websites will redirect users to the corresponding Google Business Profile. It's important to note that this redirection will only be effective until June 10, 2024.

Mud Army Update!
Thank you!
As some of you are aware Mud Army stepped back on the 23rd December, however we have still been collectively working behind the scenes. Today (Friday 29th) will be Rachel, Mel and Laura’s last day as part of the Mud Army Crew in a front line, face to face respect. Cat the Admin of the Mud Army page (and the idea behind the MudArmy) , previously Cairns life is alright will update and reflect on the MA journey and the Mud Army page soon.

Whist we continue to field information where we can, we will do this as individuals, returning to our families and our jobs in the new year.
Thank you to Cat Tannock who was the founder of Mud Army Cairns, and was an absolute gun getting it started. The emotion of wanting to help the community was evident from the get go. Laura and Mel our other co-ordinators you ladies have been rocks and I myself will be forever grateful that we came together and more importantly stayed in our own lanes to get the results we did. That was so important.

Thank you to all the 1000+ volunteers (we will forever be counting) who listened to us and was patient with us whilst navigating how to best assist the community, and try not to waste your time whilst doing so. I will shout it from the rooftops that without the individual volunteers, other volunteer groups, local residents, SES, Volunteer Fire fighters, small businesses and so many more, what has been achieved in 11 days would not have been possible.
Yes, there is a lot more to do in Cairns and the communities affected beyond, and I myself am trusting the process.

Thank you to the agencies who we have had both polite and frustrating conversations with over the last few days. You taking the time to speak with us and educate us in your areas has allowed to share information that I hope will be of benefit to the recovery and also have a clearer understanding of why things are happening like they are on the ground.

Thank you to the residents of these communities affected, that have been both patient and strong, allowing us, as strangers, to come in to their homes and help where we can. I hope in time you heal from this tragic event, and know your community are here when you need.

There is still so much help required out there and I cannot stress how important it is that if you want to help, whether it be on the ground or from afar, please please do your research on what is required and what is already in place. Listen to the locals that have been affected.

Please take care and THANK YOU, from Rachel, Mel and Laura and Cat.

MUD ARMY NOTICE
Hi everyone, we just wanted to share an update on Mud Army and some information we have collated on the ground today that may be of assistance, and help you direct your needs to the right agencies.

As it stands, Mud Army have collectively made the decision to not recommence the clean up group to the scale it was pre Christmas. We are very aware, and mindful that these communities still require assistance in some form, however, there are now agencies (Community Recovery QLD, Red Cross, QLD Health, Suncorp, Cairns Regional Council, and possibly others) that are now located within the community hubs In Holloways, Machans and Trinity Beach that can assist at a higher level, with more resources and trained team members.

The Community hubs are based at:

Machans Beach State School

61 Machan Street, Machans Beach
Open: 9am to 4pm daily

Supplies available at Machans Beach Community Hall on Tucker Road

Trinity Bay Sports Hall (Trinity Bay State High School)
Eureka Street, Manunda

Open: 9am to 4pm daily

Holloways Beach Sporting Complex
84-100 Wistaria Street, Cairns
Open: 9am to 4pm daily.

However, saying that, there is also now a co-ordination hub at Holloways Beach which is ran by volunteers (some that have moved across from Mud Army), and a couple of church groups. The current objective of this group is to continue to assist with people that require clean up, and the church groups will also be carrying out door to door check ins and reporting back to the hub where assistance is required. (Including passing information on to the agencies where they see opportunity). If you would like to volunteer, please make your way to the Holloways AFL Club on Wisteria Road. Please go filled with patience, some of these local volunteers have not stopped since the event last Sunday and also PPE.

Also, if you are attending as a volunteer and not local, please be mindful where you park. Allowing the closer park spots for the locals trying to access help/assistance.

The [email protected] email address will continue to be monitored, however I will respond to emails slightly different. If you are requesting assistance in clean up, I will pass details on to the co-ordinated hub at Holloways beach, and volunteers will be sent from there depending on the resources available. There may be a requirement for us to notify Cairns regional council of your request (please see below), if our volunteer resources are stretched.

If your request is covered by one of the other agencies, I will provide you with the information on where you can get in touch with them directly.

We are still aware that the help required is beyond just Holloways. Machans and Yorkeys K**b. We have people on the ground in Deeral/Biboohra/Mareeba/Caravonica, and we are reaching out to agencies in the background to ensure help is covered in these areas. We are also in discussion with a group being set up in Mareeba similar to that of Mud Army, however we’re awaiting further info on how we can possibly assist. (Email responded to today)

Donations – If you would still like to donate please consider the following ways:

Givit - https://www.givit.org.au– there is a list of needed items on there that you can go ahead and fund via the webpage. There is also a list of items that have been donated.

PLEASE PLEASE be mindful of turning up to the communities with truck loads of furniture, they DO NOT have the facilities to store large items and it is creating another problem for them. Please use the agencies that are already in place and have the man power to co-ordinate this for as long as required.

If you are heading out to assist in cleaning/moving items PLEASE PLEASE ensure you wear PPE gloves/masks/ closed in shoes and over cover any cuts you have.

Check in on Cairns Community Flood Appeal 2023 for donation requirements.

Hot meals, food and drink is still greatly appreciated on the ground for the residents and the volunteers. If you are aware of anyone that needs a feed, please contact Cairns Flood Food Drive 2023. Please be mindful to not post peoples addresses direct, and use PM.

Agencies on the ground

Cairns Regional Council also have their own Clean up Crew,- (not affiliated with the MUD ARMY) you MUST register with them first. DO NOT turn up at their meeting point unless advised to from them directly. - Register now to join the Cairns Clean Up Crew as a volunteer

If you need help from the Cairns Clean Up Crew, call the Cairns Disaster Centre on 1300 396 102 or email [email protected] to register for assistance.

Housing assistance is available for residents affected by this event for more information call 13 QGOV (13 74 68) during business hours.

If you are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, call the 24/7 Homeless Hotline for free on 📱1800 474 753.

Queensland Health are now on the ground and have presence at the Community hubs, they have nurses and mental health support workers on site. They can also assist with prescriptions and antibiotics.

If you’re experiencing emotional stress or personal financial hardship from this event, contact your local emergency relief provider or counselling service or call the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349 for help.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission provides information about how to rebuild after a natural disaster. There are a number of things you need to do to meet the requirements of your insurers, and then there is the process of calling quotes and having the repairs undertaken.

You can also phone them on 139 333 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), or contact them online.

The Queensland Police visited the Holloways Beach hub today (Wednesday) and re-assured the community they will put in place more Police presence during the hours of darkness where the resource’s are available. They asked, if you are subject to looting at your residence Please report it to 131 444. They cannot get the support for the manpower on the ground if nothing is being reported through their channels.

Orange Sky are based at the hubs for any Laundry needs, also if you have any FlOOD affected Laundry/ cuddly toys please reach out to Cairns Flood Laundry. Time is of the essence for flood affected items to be saved.

We will continue to update the page when we get more information. Please check in on your neighbours and family members during this tough time and share the love. Thanks Rachael, Mel, Laura and Cat

Mud Army Update!
HI everyone , I hope you have all managed to enjoy what was a very different Christmas for many this year. It sure creeped up on me, and the decs are down and packed away already. Ready to tackle this weeks obstacles.

Just a quick update on Mud Army, we may seem like we have gone to ground, but rest assured we are working away behind the scenes. Tomorrow we will be meeting up for a debrief and a plan of action moving forward.
We believe there is still a lot to do in the communities. However with several other organisations and volunteer groups now trickling through, we want to be mindful of ensuring we facilitate any volunteers we do have, to the right places.

Last week we had no hesitation in sending 150/200 people in to the communities with a list of addresses, because we knew that list of addresses would grow organically by just having a Mud Army presence on the ground. It did exactly that.

This week, i feel slightly different. Whilst I know people still require help, I am mindful of the specifics. Are the people still requiring mops and buckets, and moving furniture or do they need help mentally and logistically on how to rebuild. This is something we need to discuss as a group and with the communities.

I am also mindful that many of our volunteers would come and help in a heartbeat if we asked, and given some being on holidays from work. This could be the best time to ask. Therefore, watch this space. The Mud Army Ladies Cat, Mel, Laura and Rachel.

Please copy and paste and share!

24/12/2023

Feel free to copy and share !

We think at this point (TODAY CHRISTMAS EVE) the vulnerable need a support system, basic needs such as food and clean water, sanitary living conditions and someone to go through the process to access everything including services and grants. There are Hubs finally being set up, but are shortly closed for the holidays.

Council, who have taken over what Mud Army Cairns has been doing, will meet on the 28th and work out a plan!

Finally today I am reading some of the "official" responses. I wish I didn't, I'm getting angry.

Again: without the gloss over and spin!

Thes flood sites are now hell holes...incredibly unsanitary and unliveable and I'm not seeing much of a coordinated effort from any level of government to help these people...particularly in the next 2 days. They are being targeted by scammers (door knocking), the volunteer hubs are being targeted by looters.
No security has been provided.

WE HAD TO PULL OUR CREWS IN BECAUSE IT IS NOW UNSAFE TO WORK IN THESE CONDITIONS. AND THERE WAS PRESSURE TO SHUT IT DOWN!

Quick Quiz: How many politicians reached out to learn what we were doing. With or without a camera?

SPOILER:
We were not contacted by one official member of government or anybody running for an election officially.

We were asked to coordinate and compile a database to capture the ground swell of support to supply to council and after wasting a precious 24 hours behind the scenes, we realised how futile it was becoming and gave it away.

So for any of our politicians or heads of relevant agencies want to get in contact you will be welcome to find out the following

How many first contact rescues we did?

How many people we got welfare checks on and put in contact with the right services or got to hospital?

How many homes we completely cleaned out/gutted for council pick up and QFES/SES hose out?

How many homes we partially cleaned out for.hose out?

How many homes, where we had to tell the people in that home, who to register with to get that hose out service as they had no idea?

How many people we had provided with their first water, food and contact after the event?

How many people we helped to put in touch with a volunteer for emergency accommodation as they had no means to communicate.

How many organisations we worked with to source goods and services?

How many national brands who reached out to us because they had not being approached, or could not contact anyone for substantial corporate gifts of donated goods and services.

The list goes on!

Today, our remarkable coordinating team are still fielding calls for help, not just from Cairns but from the Greater region. This is after we have finished as a group.

Literally there are still pockets of people who have had TOTAL FLOODING who have not had contact from one service or government agency, let alone some direction as to where to go from help.

And if I hear one more time, they can go to a hub or get online!!!!!!

Often, particulary in those first few days, they have had no communication, no power, no transport, no support system and sometimes no cognitive ability to even know they need help.

And we are just one volunteer organisation that knew that all of this was time sensitive.

Now that I have actually had time to breathe, I am watching the messages that are circulating today from official sources. It is clear, for the most part, it is spin without any real knowledge of what's been happening.

I truly don't think it has even been acknowledged what the volunteers have achieved (whether as part of a formal group such as ourselves or the Cairns Community Flood Appeal 2023 or what has happened spontaneously.

I SAY THIS, NOT BECAUSE these groups and persons want praise, I SAY IT, because alot of offical support for these people is not ready to take over.

And we are literally all talking to each other. from all these groups and organisations and gangs and wondering who is going to help in the next 48 hours?

WHO IS GOING TO HELP?
Who is going to go door to door now and get people out of unsanitary conditions and get them to temporary accomodation with the relevant provisions without registering on some stupid website that they can't navigate.

Is it the Navy who were stood down? Maybe the council workers who were still allowed to go on leave as it happened. Maybe the vital hub staff who stay open anyway even though they werent told to? Of course it could be the Local SES who have voluntarily worked for days with minimal back up from down south and are exhausted. Reservists, Army?

I don't know, I don't get paid the big bucks to dovetail an immediate and coordinated and CONTINUED rescue and recovery effort.

So......HANDS UP?

Cat, Mel , Rachel & Laura

MUD ARMY UPDATE!!!! Please read and share!

HI everyone , we have so much to say however I will try to keep it short.

Firstly the admin, today Cat, Rachael, Mel and Laura made the decision to stand down Mud Army. Therefore there will be no meet ups happening as of Thursday 23rd December.

WHY you ask? Over the past few days we have seen a heart warming response of volunteers step forward, numbers began at 100/150, to today into their hundreds (I lost count). This has made a huge difference in the progression of the clean up for the communities. However, whilst we have been co-ordinating this we are mindful our families have taken a backseat and we need rest.

HOW can you still help?
There are still plenty of ways to assist, Cairns Community Flood Appeal 2023 Cairns Flood Laundry Cairns Flood Food Drive 2023 are all at this stage working on the ground. Also, clean up crews (not in conjunction) with Mud Army are out there with the same objective, to help. Please reach out to them.

The [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) email address is still live, however will be monitored under reduced hours during the festive period any requests will be outsourced to an amazing group of people, who joined us Friday and are still on the ground.

The Community Recovery QLD are now based in some of the communities, and the local council. Please advise to approach them for direction and information either face to face or online (if accessible).

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU – firstly thank you to Cat Tannock and Jack(her son) for having the biggest hearts and wanting to just help in some way. Thank you to her for allowing myself, Rachel and Laura to jump on board and help her co-ordinate this success story. (Fun Fact – we all only met for the first time 5 days ago and the coggs all aligned, how lucky are we💕)

And Finally THANK YOU to YOU for showing up and being on this journey of community spirit. Without you, your patience with us and your big hearts, none of this would have been possible. To the bodies on the ground doing the heavy lifting and cleaning, the ladies keeping the kitchen well stocked, the bus drivers, the donations from community and businesses. (More thank you's to come), I think we can rest well tonight knowing that we have helped our community.

Please share this amongst your groups, and Cat and the team will update more in the coming days. Thank You and Merry Christmas Cat,Rachael, Mel and Laura 💖
