So I have successfully recreated a pattern I have been seeing while analyzing some casts. Occasionally, I find a cross hatching pattern on some casts that have supposed dermals. While initial analysis in some have confirmed dermals, I noticed a cross hatching pattern in some that would normally indicate something with ridges has been deposited twice. However, ridge flow going in such different directions, while the main impression doesn't change, could indicate manipulation of the impression (double touching with fingers). Now there is something different going on that has to be taken into consideration. In a substrate that is more porous, a more watery mixture of your casting medium can flow beneath some of these particulates. Direction of pour, uneven ground, all play a part. I have been doing singular thumb impressions (saving money on resources) in various substrates looking for this anomaly. This one is from wet sand. Dry sand was worse. Long live the red circle!
