We are looking for a new team to take over the committee next year. Log in to apply. Interviews will commence in the next week.
Following are the available roles:
The Station Manager

Liaise with the appropriate Union staff to ensure that appropriate training and support is available.

Adhere to the Student Charter issued by the Students’ Union.

Manage the Smoke TV committee including organising meetings, making sure they follow their given mandate and enforce disciplinary action if necessary.

Attend monthly Student Council meetings on behalf of the committee.

Organise the Smoke TV meetings, including room booking and notification to members.
Responsible for maintaining communication with the UWSU.

Obligation to help members film.

Assume the responsibilities of any position not filled (Joint with the Assistant) and help with any member of the committee having problems fulfilling theirs.

Responsible for equipment in conjunction with Head of Production and Head of Tech.

Responsible for content and output for Smoke TV.

Anything not specified in this constitution comes under the Station Manager’s jurisdiction but can be delegated to the committee or members at the Station Manager’s discretion.

Deputy Station Manager:

As Deputy Station Manager of Smoke TV they are accountable to the Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Adhere to the Student Media Charter issued by the Students’ Union.

Temporarily assume the Station Manager’s responsibilities in case of absence.

Attend all Smoke TV committee meetings and Smoke TV member meetings and act as Secretary.

Help make sure the committee follow their given mandate.

Maintain communication and transparency between members and the committee, as well as with the Students’ Union.

Obligate to help members film and share responsibility for content and output.

Assume the responsibilities of any position not filled (Joint with the Manager) and help with any member of the committee having problems fulfilling theirs.

Coordinate with the Head of Production and the Head of Tech (and Station manager if needed) to help/organise editing, camera, technical and presenter training.

Head of Entertainment

As Head of Entertainment they are accountable to the Smoke TV Station and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Oversee the organisation and production of all original, non-factual programming.

Help members produce short films and TV series.

Use initiative to produce original content with the goal of entertaining students.

Cover music/arts related events on campus.

Select entries for the Best Music, Best Drama, Best Comedy and Best Light Entertainment categories for the NaSTA awards where suitable content has been produced.

Promote and publicise Smoke TV on campus and keep all members up to date of what is happening in regards to Smoke TV.

Head of Post Production

As Head of Post Production they are accountable to both Smoke TV Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Coordinate with the Deputy Station Manager (and Station manager if needed) to organise editing training.

Manage the equipment booking process with the Head of Technology. This is excluding any bookings made from non-members, which has to go through Station Manager.

Work close with the Head of Marketing on any video advertising.

Use their own judgement to ensure the quality and appropriateness of content and consult the Manager/Committee if unsure.

Obligate to help members edit and assemble a team of editors to ensure all projects are completed and published promptly.

Oversee the production and submission of content for NaSTA Awards.

Head of Factual

As Head of Factual they are accountable to both Smoke TV Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Oversee the organisation and production of all news and factual programming.

Maintain a working relationship with Smoke Media Head of News/Journalism: Smoke Radio, Smoke Mag and The QH where possible.

Work with the relevant committee member in Smoke Radio and The QH to create high quality, collaborative news and current affairs.

Plan and produce the SU elections coverage.

Produce regular news shows and help members produce documentaries and educational programmes.

Select entries for the Best News and Current Affairs, Best Documentary and Best Factual for the NaSTA awards where suitable content has been produced.

Head of Marketing

As Head of Marketing they are accountable to both the Smoke TV Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Overview and manage advertising all forms for the Station.

Use their own initiative to think of, and enact, creative ways of advertising Smoke TV.

Moderate and update Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and any other social media for offensive comments at all times.

Maintain the Smoke TV brand identity on videos, images and posters and communicate with the marketing department to ensure no conflict with SU brands when appropriate.

Maintain a positive image for Smoke TV through external communications.

Work with the Head of Technology to create a website and maintain it.

Work with the Head of Post Production to create video advertising for Smoke TV.

Build and maintain relationships with societies, other organisations and departments Smoke TV can benefit from.

Document any marketing strategies they employ throughout the year to produce an entry for Best Station Marketing for NaSTA Awards.

Head of Sports

As Head of Sports they are accountable to both the Smoke TV Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Oversee the organisation and production of all sports specific content.

Work with the relevant committee members in Smoke Media to create high quality collaborative coverage of sports.

To plan and produce Varsity coverage.

Maintain a strong working relationship with the Sports Coordinator to help raise awareness of Smoke TV within the sports clubs.

Help sports clubs to promote themselves and their events.

Produce a regular sports show and/or work with the Head of Factual to produce a sports section in the news shows.

Produce an early entry for Best Sport for the NaSTA awards.

Head of Technology

As Head of Technology they are accountable to both Smoke TV Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. It is their responsibility to:

Help with the technical side of all Smoke TV projects.

Coordinate with the Deputy Station Manager (and Station Manager if needed) to organise camera and technical training for all members.

Work with the Head of Marketing to create and maintain the website.

Manage the equipment booking process with the Head of Production. This is excluding any bookings made from non-members, which has to go through the Station Manager.

Find ways to technically improve Smoke TV.

Produce a technical report for an entry for Best Technical for the NaSTA Awards.
