Some Black families have made the important decision to get therapy! 👏🏾 For those who are overlooking the clear signs, it’s crucial to make space and time to address and treat mental illness, because mental illness is real!

🌱 Faith and therapy can co-exist! Some still struggles with the perceptions associated with "needing to get help" or even feel that their "faith" in God is weakened when they do. This is an area that demands our attention considering the impact of the issues that warrant counseling. Let's talk about it...

🌈 Pride Month: Celebrating Love, Diversity, and Mental Health 🫶🏾

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honor its history, and advocate for equality and acceptance. However, it's also important to recognize the unique mental health challenges many LGBTQ+ individuals face.

People in the LGBTQ+ community have higher rates of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations and PTSD, due to factors like discrimination, stigma, and social isolation.

One of the most startling statistics: LGBTQ+ teens consider su***de and make su***de attempts at about four times the national rate for all adolescents.

We can support the LGBTQ+ community's mental well-being by:

🦋Creating Safe Spaces
Ensure that your home, workplace, and social circles are inclusive and welcoming.

🌈Educate Yourself and Others
Learn about the struggles LGBTQ+ individuals face and share this knowledge. Awareness is the first step toward empathy and change.

🦋Stand Against Discrimination
Speak up against homophobia, transphobia, and any form of discrimination. Being an ally can provide much-needed support and validation.

🌈Support LGBTQ+ Mental Health Resources. Advocate for and donate to organizations that provide mental health services specifically for the LGBTQ+ community.

🦋Celebrate Diversity
Embrace and celebrate the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is not just about visibility, but also about celebrating each person's unique journey.

By fostering acceptance, understanding, and love, we can help build a more inclusive and supportive world.

✨Just as God directs a doctor's hands, He can also inspire a therapist's thoughts. Let God work through you as you begin your healing journey! Prayer can be a powerful tool in therapy.

🌱 Prayer can help you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, which can lead to personal growth and healthier coping mechanisms.

"PRAYER IS A WEAPON. THERAPY IS A STRATEGY!

God eagerly awaits our prayers and desires to heal our hearts. Prayer is a powerful tool, and therapy can be an excellent strategy as you walk with God." ~

🌱 "Keep praying, always. Pray to find the right therapist, pray as you head to therapy, pray with your therapist for a meaningful session, and pray on your way back home. God is with you every step of the journey!"

🌱 There are lots of state-licensed therapists who are also Christians. You can begin your search through your personal health insurance, as well as online directory like www.psychologytoday.com, or by referrals.

🌱As we close out Depression and Anxiety Awareness Week, let's continue to support mental health awareness and share valuable resources for managing these common conditions. Here are five practical tips to help manage depression and anxiety, along with ways to seek professional help:

🌱1.Engage in Regular Exercise:

Physical activity can significantly improve your mood and reduce anxiety. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise most days, whether it's walking, jogging, or yoga.

🌱2.Practice Mindfulness and Meditation:

Mindfulness exercises and meditation can help you stay present and reduce stress. Try apps like Headspace or Calm for guided sessions.

🌱3.Maintain a Healthy Sleep Routine:

Good sleep hygiene is crucial for mental health. Establish a consistent sleep schedule, create a calming bedtime routine, and ensure your sleep environment is comfortable.

🌱4.Build a Support Network:

Connect with friends, family, or support groups. Sharing your experiences and feelings with others can provide comfort and reduce feelings of isolation.

🌱5.Seek Professional Help:

If you're struggling to manage depression or anxiety, consider speaking with a mental health professional. Therapy and medication can be effective treatments. You can find a therapist through directories like or simply seek a referral from your primary care physician. You can also check with local mental health organizations or community centers for resources and support groups in your area.

❇️ If you or someone you know is in crisis, text or call 988 for the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline or text "HELLO" to 741741 to connect with a trained help and prioritize your mental well-being.

🌿 Remember it's ok to ask for help and prioritize your mental wellbeing. Together, we can raise awareness and support each other through challenging times.

✨ Blessings and Love to ALL Mothers! Ending this day with a prayer for all that found today difficult. Sending you 🩵💚

Lord, we lift up the aching hearts
of all the mothers who desperately desire joy
of motherhood but are experiencing brokenness and hurt;

who may have lost their child to su***de;

of those who long to be mothers,
but mourn the absence of new life within them;

of those who have conceived,
but suffered through miscarriage or abortion,

of those who have given birth,
but endured the tragedy of burying a child;

for those mothers who wish parenting came with a handbook because of its difficulties of motherhood.

the moms of blended families, and foster families, step-moms and single moms.

the moms of children with disabilities, children with mental illnesses or raising children while fighting through their own mental illnesses.

Lord, give them comfort and peace. Lord, wrap Your arms of love around them. In their time of need, be their refuge and strength. Grow their support system so they will never feel alone... and Lord, speak to them and guide them to get any additional help or counsel when needed, to not struggle or suffer in silence

Give them courage and resilience to face the challenges ahead.

In Jesus Name, Amen!

🕊️ Saturday we laid to rest one of our love ones 💔 One of our Queens/Sisters gone too soon, "Alicia Hawkins-Porter", she was 34.

Alicia gave life a tenacious fight and never once let up! Her captivating smile and energetic personality illuminated any space she entered. Alicia loved her career as a waitress. While working, Alicia gained a lot of faithful customers and a lifetime of friends. Alicia enjoyed singing karaoke, fishing, camping and spending time with her family and friends. Alicia was a straightforward person, but with the heart of gold. She was always checking on others even when her heart was hurting. Her selfless, fierce personality, zest for life, and steadfast determination will be remembered by the lives she touched🩵💜

Please keep our family and everyone else impacted by Alicia's death in your thoughts & prayers🙏🏾

Alicia displayed an eye for Owls and took time to find any owl stuff animal, decoration, you name it.🦉 To honor of Alicia, our nonprofit We Fight Foundation, Inc., devoted to building hope in families of youth & young adults affected by suicidal ideations and su***de; the Owl Association concentrates on meeting the distinct needs of individuals transitioning into adulthood, addressing mental challenges resulting from childhood abuse, trauma, neglect, social isolation, disadvantages, grief, and long-term stress that can potentially cause suicidal ideations or su***de.

We will need your support to fulfill this need. If serving this population your passion, please email us at support@wefightfoundation to inquire on how you can help.

Life presents challenges not just individually but families, communities even companies are impacted. This message is deeply personal as our team has been affected by various challenges such as mental health struggles, thoughts of su***de, chronic illnesses, surgeries and for some, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion from life because life be lifing!

Listen! Avoiding the pitfall of comparison is crucial! Remember, not everyone reveals their struggles but floods social media with their achievements. If you feel the pressure creeping in, please set your phone down! ... and if necessary, refrain from picking it up until the New Year! Remember, social media will still be here.

Understand that you are more than enough, yes you are loved... and yes You Are Extraordinary! Keep Thriving!

❇️The term “mental health” for young children has been questioned because its associated closely to mental illness. However, the two are quite different from one another as mental illness refers to a problem (illness) and mental health focuses on something positive (health). When referring to early childhood mental health we are focusing our attention to the positive results of early intervention for children who are experiencing challenges socially and emotionally so that they can be successful learners in the future, able to build healthy friendships and before problems become more serious.
❇️Let's raise awareness of the importance of Early Childhood Mental Health this month by providing resources and posts relating to the topic.

24/08/2023

According to Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System,10 years LEADING UP to the pandemic, feelings of persistent sadness and hopelessness as well as suicidal thoughts and behaviors increased by about 40% among young people.

WE MUST PRIORITIZE OUR CHILDREN MENTAL HEALTH! ... it's time to be proactive and not reactive.

GRAB YOURSELF A TIP OR TWO ON HOW TO BE PROACTIVE BELOW⬇️

There are ways you can advocate for your child's mental health. In these tough times, it’s essential. You can...

❇️ Keep a journal.
Keeping a journal will help you uncover patterns. Document unusual behavior. Be attentive. Note their different moods, level of social engagement, those activities that gives them anxiety, exhaust, calm or energize them. Note those problem behaviors, and definitely any drastic changes.

❇️ Give them a break.
This is not a “free pass” but rather an extension of grace and compassion in a time of stress or moments they just feels overwhelmed. Their breaks might take the form of a day off of school or taking a chore or two off their hands for a day or so. Include the teacher in these mental health days to ensure they don't fall behind in classes. Most importantly, be sure to help your child engage in some self-care activities during his period of rest.

❇️ Don't wait to get your child a therapist. In therapy, kids talk and learn how to work out their problems. Going to therapy helps them cope better, communicate better, and do better.

❇️ Don’t avoid the hard stuff.
For example... "Maybe over the course of the last month, you noticed isolation and withdrawal behaviors in your child. Maybe you caught her crying in her room at one point. But this week, they seem better. " Please don't mistake perceived improvement for a sealed-over crack in a broken heart. It’s important to investigate by asking to see what is really going on. If you have a teen and don’t feel comfortable doing this, then you may need some help redefining and rebuilding your relationship. Real talk!

Whether you’re depressed or not, it’s perfectly normal to have uncomfortable or negative thoughts without being able to identify where they come from why you can’t get rid of them. In many cases, negative core beliefs, which trigger negative thoughts and uncountable feelings can be traced back to childhood, perhaps you experience ongoing Trauma, a single traumatic incident, abuse, or other impactful life experience, or even misunderstanding, or what was happening around you. BE KIND TO YOURSELF 💚 You’ve already got these pervasive negative thoughts, which can lead to bad feelings. What makes those feelings worse is when you judge yourself for feeling the way that you feel.

If you are having trouble combating, your negative thoughts and feelings, please consider seeking professional mental health help.

Join Our Movement #RallyUp2SaveLives

We Fight Foundation, Inc. discovered that there is a link between Creativity & Mental Health. Our #RallyUp2SaveLives Movement provides a foundation for talents, gifts and most importantly healing through performance arts. Join us annually at our rallies and subscribe to our magazine. We seek to educate all on mental health and promote awareness about su***de prevention, depression, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health diagnosis by sharing our personal testimonies and strategies on how to overcome; informational events and resources.

“ This FIGHT is personal to me. My oldest daughter had her 1st attempt of su***de at the age of 13; being bullied triggered it but the underline illness was hidden. After getting past the denial phase, we tried mental facilities after mental facilities; different psychiatrists and therapists...and all kinds of medications! These were all band aides, patchwork and temporary fixes. Due to the extremely large mental illness population, somewhere during treatments it became robotic with no “natural supports.” We Fight Foundation Inc. goal is provide this essential component, “natural support” To be their support system! There’s not just “you” or “me”...it’s WE! We have partnered with our next generation; our youth & young adults. We are encouraging them to love & believe in themselves and their FIGHT because we already believe they are destined to be great! We are teaching them how to not allow their mental illness to define them. “ ~Love Niki
