Top 5 Lessons learnt from the book -" BELIEVE YOU CAN "

1. If Youre Not You, Then Who Are You Going to Be?

Be yourself. Think about it: Arent most of the discontented people you know trying to be someone they arent or trying to do something theyre not supposed to do? A Congolese proverb asserts, Wood may remain ten years in the water, but it will never become a crocodile. Nobody is as disappointed and unhappy as the person who spends her life longing to be somebody else.

2. Dont Build a Case Against Yourself

Stewart Johnson commented, Our business in life is not to get ahead of others, but to get ahead of ourselvesto break our own records, to outstrip our yesterday by our today, to do our work with more force than ever before. Stop looking only at where you are and start looking at what you can be. If you doubt yourself, listen to Alexandre Dumas: A person who doubts himself is like a man who enlists in the ranks of his enemy and bears arms against himself. Tim Redmond cautions, Dont commit treason against your own life and purpose.

3. Thomas Edison Was Afraid of the Dark

Yes! Edison was afraid of the darkyet he overcame that obstacle in a big way and invented the light bulb. The door to opportunity swings on the hinges of adversity. Problems are the price of progress. The obstacles of life are intended to make us better, not bitter. Adversity has advantages. Dont let your problems take the leadyou take it. The difficulty you face is simply an opportunity for you to do your best.

4. You Can Only Live Today

Seize the moment! Opportunities are constantly either coming to you or by you. Today was once the future from which you expected so much in the past. Horatio Dresser said, The ideal never comes. Today is ideal for him who makes it so. Live for today. Dont let what you have within your grasp today be lost entirely because the future intrigues you and the past disheartens you.

5. Be a Little Kinder Than You Have to Be

Serving others is one of lifes most awesome privileges. Hunt for the good points in people. Remember, they have to do the same in your case. Then do something to help them. If you want to get ahead, be a bridge instead of a wall. Love others more than they deserve. Albert Schweitzer said, The only ones among you who will really be happy are those who have sought and found how to serve. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin commented, The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of oneself to others.

10 GOLDEN RULES FOR LIFE

1. Read your favorite books again

You may read thousands of books in your life, but there will only be a few that deeply change the way you think.

Reread them every now and then in order to experience good times and as you do you'll pick up new ideas.

2. Never take advice from people on the sidelines.

It's easy to stand on the sidelines but it’s hard to stand in the arena. It's scary to put yourself out there-it's dark and lonely at times.

3. Spend more time doing things you never regret.

Some of these things could be:
- Time with my Family
- Going to gym
- Catching up with friends
- Writing a journal, diary or an article
- Going for a walk
- Sleeping 7-8 hours

Make your own list and then spend more time doing them!

4. Always prioritize people.

Everything in life comes down to people and relationships.

Build network of good people both in personal and work life. Remember you are influenced by people around you.

Cultivate deep relationships, but also learn to appreciate the power of weak ties.

5. Stop trying to be INTERESTING and focus on being INTERESTED.

Interested people are prone to giving their deep attention to something to learn more about it.

They open up to the world. They ask great questions & observe. Being interested is how you become interesting!

Have interest in other people. You will learn a lot from each person. Some will be lessons whilst others will be knowledge.

6. Radically reduce your news consumption.

The Paradox of News: The more news you consume, the less well-informed you are.

The constant barrage of negative BREAKING NEWS and clearly biased perspectives clouds your understanding.

Want to know more about the world? Turn off the mainstream news and use social media (but be cautious as there is a lot of fake news out there as well)

7. Stop and savor the beautiful moments of life.

Life moves fast. When you encounter a moment of pure bliss, pause and embrace every aspect of it.

The smells, the sounds, the feelings, the sensations. Pause time and appreciate moments of sweetness. You'll be glad you did.

8. Always pursue the path that has the larger luck surface area.

Your daily actions can put you in a position where luck is more likely to strike.

It's hard to get lucky watching TV at home-it's easy to get lucky when you're out engaging and learning.

9. When you think something nice about someone, let them know.

It's a shame that we often wait until a person's funeral to say all of the nice things we thought about them.

The next time you have a positive thought about someone tell them right away.

10. "A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought they must be earned." Work on time on a daily basis.

TOPIC: Self Care

The summer holidays should give us a chance to reflect on how to take care of our selves.

However, self care is not just about going on a holiday or getting a massage. It is about changing our habits in order to have maximum positive impact on others including students. It is about having a clear and focused mindset. It is also about moving on from the past where we may for example have suffered at the hands of SLT.

Now is the time to start removing ‘toxic’ thoughts, people, and places that have dragged us down.

Before we go back to schools, we must promise ourselves that we must now start enjoying our lives which includes not letting school leadership to drag us down again. We must not overthink about how hard and stressful our job has become but instead focus on developing ourselves and making ourselves more valuable and in demand and working within boundaries and with certain discipline.
