✨Why did you want to pursue this internship?

Books are a big part of my world. I had never really considered pursuing a career in the industry until this account posted about the GenZ Publishing opportunity. I took it as a sign and went for it! I’m so glad I did.

✨What has it been like to be a virtual intern?

I really love it because it allows me to pursue an internship I love while also being a student with other extracurriculars. The internship is extremely flexible, so I can really work on it on my own time, which isn’t always be the case.

✨What’s been your favorite part of your internship so far?

My favorite part has definitely been seeing a manuscript start as a query submission and then be accepted and edited into a published final copy. The cycle is so amazing to be part of!

✨What advice would you offer students about to pursue their first internship?

Pursing an internship for the first time can be a time that makes you excited but also nervous and may cause you to doubt yourself. But, honestly, you putting yourself out there for something you want is incredibly powerful. Even if you don’t get the opportunity you hoped for (which has happened to me multiple times), you’re still incredible.

After seeing firsthand how these events benefit students, STEM Without Boundaries was created in early 2020 to bring STEM Nights to many other communities across the country and internationally.

✨In your own words, what does it mean to be a changemaker?

I think a changemaker is an individual who is committed to devoting their time, skills, and efforts into making a positive impact in a community. Although volunteering and serving is not always easy, a changemaker is brave and works together with others to make anything possible. A changemaker is someone who inspires others through their noble actions and work towards making the world a better place.

MEET ASHLEY 🎨

Ashley is a self-taught illustrator. After seeing illustrations and typography posts on Instagram pages like Brit + Co and Purewow, she decided to take the leap, take an online course on illustrating and from there, practice!

✨ What inspires you to create?⁣

I began illustrating people, but now I want to dive into illustrating places, things, animals. Sometimes I’ll take a photo on my phone and say, “Wow, that would be really cool to illustrate.” Clients also inspire me. There’s nothing like hearing, “This is awesome” after working on a portrait for days/weeks. Feedback like that inspires me to go out and tackle the next project!

✨ Why is it important to you to share your creations with others?⁣ ⁣⁣

I like sharing my work because I feel like my “story” is encouraging. A year ago, I had no idea that Adobe Illustrator existed, and here I am, a year later, pumping out illustrations and having so much fun doing it.
