Where does the conception that if it doesn’t directly affect me and those around me, it doesn’t matter? Have we as a people become so short sighted as to no longer recognize that, just because it isn’t affect me, it will never do so?
When did we get to the point that only our opinion or religion matters, and that if you don’t agree with it, you are evil?
I spent the week watching the impeachment hearings, and to me it appears that way too many consider it okay to do anything if it gives them what they want. It also seems that way too many consider it okay if any President extorts a foreign government to DIG up or MAKE UP dirt on an opponent or someone, they consider to be their enemy it is okay.
We saw public servants who have given their entire lives to this country speak out about an extortion attempt and yet the polls are appearing to say that there is a growing feeling that he should not have to pay any penalty, should not be removed from office, but left free to do it again, and again.
Who will it be next time? Which country or people will have to die and suffer so that he can keep in the good graces of Vladimir Putin, the Minister of Turkey (a country that has a history of ra**ng, pillaging, and killing anyone in their way), and Kim Jong Un?
Which group of people will next be targeted after he has killed off, r***d, caged, and decimated those of color? Who will be next in line? Those that do not share the faith of the Jerry Falwell Jr’s of this country. Those that do not agree with the notion that anyone should be told who to love. The weak, poor, elderly, those that do not wish to be controlled by the corporate world and live off the scraps thrown to them.
Have we become such a nation? Have we become so selfish, and self-centered that if it is not OUR children, relatives, neighbors, who are killed being killed in schools, theaters, music events, shopping centers it is okay with us?
I am disheartened by the latest polls; I am disheartened by those so short-sighted as to say (IF MY PREFERRED CANDIDATE DOESN’T WIN) I will not vote or do a protest vote. I am dismayed by the lack of understanding that one should chose the candidate that MOST closely follows our views or that will at least give us hope of a better future.
I have read on social media those who are hoping for the so called ‘End Times,’ and those who say the Bible says, God said he wouldn’t bring floods again, so they won’t happen. When in fact he never said that they won’t happen if people destroy the natural barriers to our planet that would stop the rising sea levels, the melting arctic, the raging fires, the increased hurricane, tornado, droughts, across the world due to our destruction.
If you believe in the Bible, you would know that God gave free will to man, and in that free will is the possibility that man may bring down destruction on themselves.
Am I angry, yes, but I am more saddened by the greed, the lack of caring, the lack of understanding, and mostly the lack of empathy towards those who are right now affected?
We don’t know who will be next on the smear, hate, and intolerance campaign that we already see going on in our country. We are no longer a symbol of hope in the world. We are no longer viewed as a beacon that anyone should aim for. That is rapidly disappearing, and in its place a cynical view that all politicians are the same, and so therefore it doesn’t matter. Are you giving over control of your lives and the lives of everyone in a belief that well it’s not me?
