Zum 45. Todestag von Elvis Presley steigt ab heute in Bad Nauheim das 20th European Elvis Festival. Das bedeutet Rock 'n' Roll in der ganzen Stadt! Fans aus aller Welt feiern ihr Idol mit Petticoats und Elvis-Tolle, mit Konzerten, einer Classic Car Parade mit jeder Menge Cadillacs oder Touren zu authentischen Orten, an denen Elvis gewesen ist. Elvis Presley war früher in Deutschland stationiert, genauer gesagt im hessischen Friedberg. 1958 wurde der damals 23-Jährige in die Armee berufen, nur wenige Monate später wurde er nach Deutschland geschickt. Elvis war zu dieser Zeit in Friedberg stationiert und wohnte im benachbarten Bad Nauheim. Während seiner Zeit in Deutschland war Elvis ein ganz normaler Soldat, allerdings ist ihm sein Ruf natürlich auch nach Europa gefolgt. Zu der Zeit seiner Einberufung in die Armee hatte Elvis bereits einige Nummer-Eins-Songs herausgebracht.

Das More987FM Team zu Besuch auf der US Air Base in Ramstein.
Mit Gästen der Atlantischen Akademie Rheinland-Pfalz besuchte das Team des deutsch-amerikanischen Freundschaftsradio More987FM die Ramstein Air Base, das europäische Hauptquartier der US-Air Force. Besuchern eröffnet sich dort eine Welt mit elementary und middle school, einer US-amerikanischen Mall und amerikanischen Straßennamen. Der Stützpunkt liegt nahe des deutschen Ortes Ramstein-Miesenbach im Bundesland Rheinland-Pfalz. Der Military Community gehören rund um Kaiserslautern mehr als 50.000 Angehörige der US-Streitkräfte an, die nicht nur einen bedeutsamen Militärflugplatz betreiben, sondern gemeinsam mit einem internationalen Stab gleichzeitig für alle Operationen der NATO in der Luft zuständig sind.

Ganz klar, dass die Besichtigung einer Boeing C-17 Globemaster III zu einem der Höhepunkte unseres Besuchs zählte. Im Cockpit dieses vierstrahligen Militärtransportflugzeug traf More987FM Stationmanager Udo Habedank den verantwortlichen Koordinator des Projekts "Willkommen in Rheinland-Pfalz! John Constance. In der Region groß geworden, ist der junge Wissenschaftler und Deutsch-Amerikaner heute bei der Atlantischen Akademie für die Koordination des Projekts "Willkommen in Rheinland-Pfalz! Unsere Nachbarn aus Amerika" (WiR!) verantwortlich. Für seine Verdienste für eine starke, dauerhafte und vertrauensvolle Beziehungen wurde John Constance vom ehemaligen Kommandeur der Garnison der US-Armee in Rheinland-Pfalz, Oberst Jason T. Edwards, mit dem "Keys to the Garrison" (Schlüssel zur Garnison) ausgezeichnet. Eine prestigeträchtige Auszeichnung der Anerkennung für seinen herausragenden, kontinuierlichen Dienst zur Unterstützung der US-Armee im Land Rheinland-Pfalz.

"Willkommen in Rheinland-Pfalz! Unsere Nachbarn aus Amerika" (WiR!) ist ein Projekt, das die rheinland-pfälzische Landesregierung 2014 zur Einbindung von US-Bürgern in das öffentliche Leben vor Ort initiiert hat. Ziel des Programms ist es, Angebote für die Einbindung von US-Bürgerinnen und US-Bürgern in das öffentliche Leben vor Ort zu schaffen. Für US-Familien soll über verbesserte Informationen bzgl. örtlicher und regionaler Angebote die Integration in und die Identifikation mit ihrem Wohnort gesteigert werden. Dabei wurde ein umfangreiches, englischsprachiges Onlineangebot mittels der WiR!-Website https://www.welcome-to-rlp.org geschaffen. „Die Projektgemeinden versorgen dabei amerikanische Haushalte mit Informationen über Einkaufs- und Freizeitmöglichkeiten, mit Hinweisen zu Ämtern, Vereinen und Stammtischen, Kontakte zu ihrem Lebensumfeld werden erleichtert und die gegenseitigen Beziehungen gefördert“, berichtet John Constance über positive Erfahrungen mit dem eigens für Amerikaner geschaffenen Willkommenskonzept. John Constance ist von dem Projekt überzeugt. Es sei langfristig angelegt, werde den Bedürfnissen der Amerikaner und der Ortsgemeinden angepasst, sei bildungsorientiert und erleichtere den rund 50.000 Amerikanern, die in der Westpfalz auf Zeit zu Hause sind, das Leben.

Botschafterin Gutmann trat im Februar 2022 ihr Amt als US-Botschafterin in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland an. Von 2004 bis 2022 war sie Präsidentin der University of Pennsylvania und damit die dienstälteste Präsidentin der Universität 2009 wurde sie von US-Präsident Obama zur Vorsitzenden der Kommission des Präsidenten für bioethische Fragen (Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues) ernannt, die sie sieben Jahre lang leitete.

Neben ihrem Engagement für den lebensverändernden Zugang zu Bildung hat sich Dr. Gutmann auch für innovative, lebenswichtige Erkenntnisse liefernde Forschung eingesetzt. Zudem veröffentlichte sie zahlreiche Publikationen zum konkreten Nutzen und den ethischen Aspekten von Verfassungsdemokratie, Bildung, Gesundheitswesen und Menschenrechten. Ihr 17. Buch, das sie gemeinsam mit Jonathan Moreno geschrieben hat, befasst sich mit Bioethik und enthält ein Nachwort zu „Ethik in der Pandemie“ (2020).

Dr. Gutmann wurde 2018 von der Zeitschrift Fortune als eine der World's 50 Greatest Leaders genannt. Gutmann wurde außerdem mit der Harvard University Centennial Medal (2003) und dem Carnegie Corporation Academic Leadership Award (2009) ausgezeichnet. Die Zeitschrift Newsweek nannte sie unter den 150 Women Who Shake the World (2011). Sie erhielt den Anti-Defamation League’s Americanism Award (2014), den Urban Affairs Coalition’s Doer Award (2015), den Lucretia Mott Award der Organisation Women’s Way (2017), den Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s William Penn Award (2018), den Philadelphia Inquirer Industry Icon Award (2018) sowie den Pennsylvania Society‘s Gold Medal Award (2019).

Vor ihrer Berufung an die University of Pennsylvania leitete Dr. Gutmann die Verwaltung der Princeton University, an der sie auch als Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Politics tätig war. Sie war Gründungsdirektorin des University Center for Human Values, eines multidisziplinären Zentrums für Lehre, Forschung und die öffentliche Debatte über Ethik und menschliche Werte. In Princeton war sie zudem Dekanin des Lehrkollegiums und wurde mit dem President's Distinguished Teaching Award ausgezeichnet.

Dr. Gutmann schloss ihr Studium am Harvard-Radcliffe College magna cm laude ab. Sie erwarb ihren Master-Abschluss in Politikwissenschaft an der London School of Economics und ihren Doktortitel in Politikwissenschaft an der Harvard University. Sie ist mit Michael W. Doyle, Professor an der Columbia University, verheiratet. Sie haben eine Tochter, einen Schwiegersohn und zwei Enkelkinder.

Behind door 23 of our advent calendar we got a popular Christmas carol. "Carol of the Bells" by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych and lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky.
