American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Lucid has inaugurated its first international manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).

The facility, known as Advanced Manufacturing Plant-2 (AMP-2), will produce Lucid Air sedans with an annual capacity of 5,000 units, catering to domestic and export markets in the region.

Initially, the plant will assemble semi-knocked-down (SKD) units, with plans to transition to complete build units (CBU) production in Saudi Arabia by mid-decade, increasing annual capacity to 150,000 vehicles.

Saudi Arabia had previously agreed to purchase 100,000 Lucid EVs over the next decade.

NEWS | In a podcast, Tesla’s Chief Vehicle Designer Franz von Holzhausen stated that the Cybertruck is finally reaching manufacture.

The pandemic hampered Cybertruck’s production, and supply chain issues caused more delays. Early production is slated to begin in mid-2023, and Tesla has started making minor modifications in preparation.

Volume manufacturing is expected to begin at the end of this year, according to Teslarati.

Holzhausen stated on the Ride the Lightning podcast that “from a design perspective,” the Cybertruck is “basically” finished.

While the Tesla designer could not say whether the production date will be met, he did say that Tesla might make additional upgrades if necessary.
