On this date in 1974, the Flyers became the FIRST expansion team to win the Stanley Cup. ⠀
⠀
The Flyers had to overcome some tough challenges in the Atlanta Flames (Now Calgary), who the Flyers ended up sweeping in Round 1. A New York Rangers team who took them to 7 games, and an unbelievable Boston Bruins team in the Cup Finals, with players like Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Johnny Bucyk, Gilles Gilbert, & many more. ⠀

One of the main reasons the Flyers won Lord Stanley was because of Bernie Parent. In the regular season Parent stated a .932 SV % and a 1.89 GAA, that’s pretty damn good if you ask me. ⠀
⠀
As for the playoffs, he carried that in and potted a .933 SV% and a 2.02 GAA, with 2 shutouts. One of those 2 shutouts came in Game 6 where the Flyers defeated Boston on home ice 1-0, off the game-winning-goal by Andre “the Moose” Dupont! ⠀

Kalynuk was just named to the first-team All-Big Ten All-Star team on Monday (5/10/20), after his impressive season at the Univ. of Wisconsin in his Junior Year.⠀

Kalynuk put up 7 goals, 21 assists for 28 points in 36 Games played.⠀

Fun Fact #2: Originally the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team moved to Philadelphia in 1930/31 and became, you guessed it, the Philadelphia Quakers. The Great Depression caused the Quakers to eventually fold and it was another 40 years before Philadelphia would get another Hockey team. The Flyers came in 1967 as part of the 6 team-12 team league expansion, along with the Pittsburgh Penguin, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Northstars, California Golden Seals, and the St. Louis Blues.

Made this chart displaying the Points-Per-Game for Nicolas Aube-Kubel. He averaged around half a point per game with the Phantoms in 2018-19, and is a little over 0.4 with the Flyers in 2019-20 playing on a 3rd/4th line role!🧡

Fun Fact: Tommy Soderstrom holds the most shutouts in a season by a Flyers Goalie as a Rookie, with 5 in the 1992-93 season. Soderstrom was selected 214th overall in the 11th round of the 1990 NHL Entry-Draft by the Flyers. He only played 5 years in the league, 2 with the Flyers and 3 with the New York Islanders. In 92-93 along with the 5 shutouts, he posted a .892 SV% & a 3.42 GAA. 🧡
