For me, it's that unfortunate time again when I am again behind in rent, etc, etc - The only thing I can say is that I have no choice but to appeal to the good graces of those who know me, and/or know the work I've done with India Archive Music or have become friends through Facebook - Sorry to trouble everyone, but I just can't get out of my financial hole -
So, for a start, let me appeal to you - buy some CDs from India Archive Music - buy 10 or more for $50 plus shipping - $10 for 10 CDs and .50 for each additional CD - check out the CDs at indiaarchivemusic.com and then please write me at [email protected] to place an order
Second, I have two very nice "instrumental " tanpuras for sale - I'd like to get $200 for the one without a case and $260 for the one with a case - and shipping - I'd prefer to sell them in the NYC area to avoid shipping - which would probably be costly and involve packing them in hat the USPS considers an oversize box - meaning extra fees - but, I'll do whatever is necessary - here are photos of the tanpuras - Thank you all more than words can say for your continued friendship and good wishes - Lyle

Later he started learning the Harmonium from Vishnupant Vashta and at the same time had the opportunity of being guided by Chhota Gandharva, the eminent vocalist, on the art of Harmonium accompaniment. However a major part of his training in Harmonium was between 1957 and 1967 under the guidance of the Harmonium maestro Pandit Madhukar Pendnekar, better known as P. Madhukar.
In his endeavor to acquire knowledge he had the opportunity of receiving valuable guidance from some veteran vocalist like Pandit S. C. R. Bhatt, Pandit K. G. Ginde, Pandit Rajaram Shukla, Pandit Murli Manohar Shukla, Pandit Ram Marathe, and instrumentalists like Pandit Devendra Murdeshwar (Flute) and Pandit A. P. Pathak (Violin) from whom he got to learn the intricacies of the Khayal tradition of North Indian (Hindustani) Classical Music.
Tulshidas Borkar gained initial fame as an Organ player in Marathi theatrical music. He accompanied several leading actor-singers of Marathi theatre between the years 1950 and 1980. He has also been instrumental in designing a syllabus for Harmonium students which has been accepted and recognized by the Pune University (Lalit Kala Kendra) and University of Kolhapur (Shivaji Vidyapeeth).

•• Remembering Legendary Indian Musicologist and Vocalist Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande on his 88th Death Anniversary (10 August 1860 - 19 September 1936) ••

Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande was an Indian Musicologist who wrote the first modern treatise on Hindustani Classical Music (The north Indian variety of Indian Classical music), an art which had been propagated earlier for a few centuries mostly through oral traditions. During those earlier times, the art had undergone several changes, rendering the raga grammar documented in scant old texts outdated.
Ragas used to be classified into Raga (male), Ragini (female), and Putra (children). Bhatkhande reclassified them into the currently used Thaat system. He noted that several ragas did not conform to their description in ancient Sanskrit texts. He explained the ragas in an easy-to-understand language and composed several bandishes which explained the grammar of the ragas. He borrowed the idea of lakshan geet from the Carnatic music scholar Venkatamakhin.
Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande was born in 1860 in Walkeshwar, Mumbai, Maharashtra. His father had great passion for music which motivated him to study music. At an early age he had mastered singing, veena and flute. He was educated at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and Deccan College in Pune. He graduated with a degree in Law in 1885 and joined the legal profession in 1887. Later he served a short stint as a lawyer in the High Court in Karachi.
During his college days, Bhatkhande began learning Sitar playing from Vallabhdas. He later learned vocal music from Raojiba, a Dhrupad singer. He also trained in other aspects of classical music under Belbagkar, Ali Hussain Khan, and Vilayat Hussain Khan. He became a member of Gayan Uttejak Mandali, a musical circle in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
To Know about his Career, Institutions and more, visit his biography page on Wikipedia.

Bhatkhande suffered paralysis and a thigh fracture in 1933. He died in 1936 on Ganesh Chaturthi day.
The Post and Telegraph Department of India paid homage to Bhatkhande by releasing on September 1, 1961 a commemorative stamp containing his portrait.

On his Death Anniversary, Hindustani Classical Music And Everything pays rich tributes to the legend and are very grateful for his contributions to the Indian Classical Music. 🙏🌼

•• Remembering Eminent Indian Classical Mandolin Maestro Uppalapu Srinivas on his 10th Death Anniversary (28 February 1969 – 19 September 2014) ••

Uppalapu Srinivas was a virtuoso Indian mandolin maestro and composer belonging to the classical Carnatic musical tradition of Southern India.
Srinivas is regarded as the Mozart of classical Indian music. "George Harrison's favourite piece of Indian music was Mandolin Ecstasy, an album recorded by a child prodigy from Madras called U Srinivas at the age of 13. It was, like, my dad's favourite album of all time," says (Dhani) Harrison. "U Srinivas is 27 now and still making music. He plays an electric five-string mandolin, he's fantastic...." Over the next four decades, he toured across the world, and collaborated with John McLaughlin, Michael Nyman, and Michael Brook.
At a very young age he was internationally viewed as the successor to Pandit Ravi Shankar. When Srinivas gave his first performance it led to him being compared to the world's greatest prodigies: "Some of you have heard or read about exceptionally gifted children, our own Mandolin Srinivas, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Beethoven, Sir Isaac Newton, Picasso, Madam Curie, the list is endless." (The Hindu, Sunday, May 3, 1992).
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009.

On his Death Anniversary, Hindustani Classical Music And Everything pays rich tributes to him and are very grateful for his services to the Indian Classical Music. 🙏🌼
