Wednesday, May 11th, 7pm @ New City Brewery — EFF Presents: Gaestel and McClung

Join us for a FREE, special pre-Festival screening of select short films by the incredibly talented, local independent filmmakers Joshua Gaestel and Melissa McClung. Both Joshua and Melissa will be in attendance to discuss their work, inspiration, and process, including a Q&A talkback with the audience. No tickets will be sold -- admission is FREE on a first-come, first-seated basis. Doors open at 4pm, and the event will begin at 7pm. You won’t want to miss this!

Episode Number 32: BASIC INSTINCT (1992)

This week marks our first foray into one of the hottest genres of the early to mid 1990s - the erotic thriller. Perhaps none was bigger than 1992's BASIC INSTINCT, which made over $650 million worldwide in today's dollars. If there's one thing people remember from this blockbuster starring Michael Douglas (WALL STREET, ROMANCING THE STONE) and Sharon Stone (TOTAL RECALL, SLIVER), it's the infamous interrogation scene, claimed to have been the most freeze framed scene ever during the days of VHS. We discuss that and other entertaining topics such as everyone with a psychology degree being able to manipulate people's minds, whether or not this film still has the ability to shock audiences, and whatever happened to erotic thrillers (and will they make a comeback).

Written by Joe Eszterhas (SHOWGIRLS), and directed by Paul Verhoeven (ROBOCOP, TOTAL RECALL), the BASIC INSTINCT cast also includes Jeanne Tripplehorn and George Dzundza.
