I saw backstage at an event at SXSW, and she just stared at me. Ok, fine, I stared at her, and she looked into my soul! I was terrified to say anything 🤦🏾‍♀️ and the crazy thing is that I’d been waiting my whole life for that moment. I meannnn we were less than 6ft away from each other, and I froze!

To make it worse, I was in the back hallways, and I was staring at her door. Someone came out and called for Lyndsey; I said yes, and they waved me into the room. I turned and walked away. Bruh! 😫

From the first time, I saw Auntie/Godmother Erykah’s music video “On & On” in 1997 at the age of 15, I was in love.

The next time I have the chance to say hello and Thank You, I will not hesitate.

As parents, we tend to feel like we have to have an answer for everything.

Baby Girl us home for the holidays, and she asked, “do I have to ask to go places?” I had no idea what to say. We both were like, how does this work? 🤣

So I was honest with her and told her to ask because he’s more responsible. 🤷🏿‍♀️

S/N: I have no problem telling my kids I don't know. Usually, we sit down as a family and figure it out together. IDK if it's right or wrong. The good thing is that I have 3 chances to get it right. 😉

True Story: I've had the same dream consistently for three nights. About a lion chasing me, I will wake up right before he gets to me.

But in the last dream, He got to me and put his mouth on my head but didn’t bite down.

So, of course, I looked it up because I knew the universe was trying to tell me something.

My A1 since day 1. This little girl (not so little anymore) 😫 has taught me so much! Her confidence is inspiring, her smile and laugh are contagious. She loves and protects her little brothers. And her ability to be honest no matter what is admirable. So if you’re afraid of the truth, is not who you ask. 🤣🥴

She is the best friend you’ve always wanted.

I thank God for choosing me to be your mother and allowing me to witness you grow and mature into the young lady that you are and the woman that you are becoming.

I thank you for allowing me to make mistakes and allowing me to learn and grow. Thank you for always keepin it a buck with me. Letting me know when I'm wrong and right. Thank you for always being there for your brothers, and thank you for being you unapologetically!

P.S. I take her to school every morning so that we can spend a little time together, and after I drop her off, I cry silently in the car. Lol

I miss her already, and she hasn’t even left for college yet! 😒

God knew! and I met in 8th Grade in Montgomery County, MD. We didn't hang out, and we were associates at best.

Years later, while I was living in GA with my daughter, we connected through FB (he was all in my DMs, y'all)🤣😳, and we've been writing/making history ever since!

Been together for 11 yrs, married for 8, 3 kids, and a puppy. Growing together, learning together, and building a legacy!

Yes, our relationship is perfect. That doesn’t mean that we don’t disagree, It means that we are 100% committed to giving 100% of ourselves at all times. And when one can’t give 100, the other carries that extra %.

We continue to study each other, and we remain passionate and excited about life. We push each other to be great. We communicate; we are honest and transparent. We are never afraid to let the other one know when they are f’n up.
We make sure we talk about what we need from each other. And most important, we keep God first and present at all times.

So when I hear people say no relationship is perfect, I say speak for yourself because mine definitely is! 😝

PICTURE DAY!

So I decided to let Cooper, aka Naruto, dress himself for picture day, and I can say he did a great job!

Allowing him to be who he is at all times is important to both his father and me. We want him to look back and on his childhood and smile.

We nurture, guide, and teach him on HIS journey. Also, knowing that nature is a big part of who is.

We all have good and bad attributes. We can’t run or hide from them, but we can learn to use both for good. Knowing that both are what makes us who we are.

It is not nature vs. nurture; it’s nature & nurture!!

Keep going doesn’t mean that you have to do the same things that didn’t work. It means reevaluate and make sure your actions align with your goals. And if you don’t know what your goals are, sit and write them out and work from there.

GOOD HAIR! So my boys want to loc their hair, and we said sure, but now I’m struggling. I’m struggling because every time we walk out the door, I know that we are being judged because their hair is not what society would call appropriate.

I am also struggling with them going back to school with their hair. You don’t want teachers, students, and other parents treating your kids wrong or judging them because of their hair.

The saddest thing of all is that I know it is going to happen. I know that regardless of what their hair looks like, they will be judged.

Our goal it’s a make sure that they are comfortable in their skin; however, they choose to wear it is perfect. That they are descendants of kings, queens, and presidents But I will not lie, it’s a tough choice!

Hey, mama, I know it’s hard when you have these little people watching your every move. You’re trying not to make a mistake; you’re trying to do better for them give them all of you even when you feel that you have nothing left!

Just know that your mistakes are perfect, saying, “I don’t know” is a great answer, and putting everyone in the bed for movies and cuddle time because you have NO ENERGY, will be the best day ever in their eyes.

Cereal and pizza is a balanced meal and Real Housewives of whatever is self-care!

Expectations = Disappointment. I’ve spent a lot of time expecting things from others because I felt like I deserved it.

I’ve been good to you, so why aren’t you doing the same for me? 🤨

I was looking for the people in my life to give what they didn’t have. Once I accepted people for who they are and accepted that they don't OWE ME A THING, my relationships changed.

Also, once I stopped trying to be everything for everyone, my life changed. This doesn’t mean you have to stop nurturing your relationships; just don’t allow your roots to dry and get crusty because you're not watering you!

Morning motivation! Take care of your mental, take care of yourself. Sometimes you have to disconnect, which is almost impossible when you are a wife, a mom, and a daughter and an entrepreneur all at once and all the time.

I have struggled over the past two years with life. I am questioning everything. Feel incompetent, insecure, unworthy, ashamed, lonely, & guilty for feeling all those feelings! DO YOU KNOW HOW F***** UP THAT IS?!?!? That guilt will have you questioning your life. Is it worth it? Should I even try? On top of that, I felt that feeling this way was weak and that these feelings were only a privilege reserved for rich white women (don’t judge me. I know I’m not the only one 🥴). That narrative is changing, and black men and women practice self-care, self-love and are taking care of their mental health through healing!

Look, I’m on a whole healing journey, and I have no idea where this road will take me, but I’m here for it. I am present, and I am willing. Posting this is extremely difficult but I hope that through my journey it will others.

A good friend told me to take it hour by hour! ❤️

There is a saying, “I love all my children the same.” Well, I don’t! All 3 of my children are different, and they require different things, and at times one may need more of me than the other.

They get me fully as their mom and when they need it, as their friend. I love them the way they need to be loved.

I make sure to pay attention to their needs and wants. I make sure to listen, and then I do my best to provide all those things. 😉🥰

PARENTING! One of the most challenging things in this world is raising kids.

Questioning every decision, worrying about raising respectful, polite, intelligent, and kind Human beings. Fact is that we never know if the decisions we’re making are wrong or right until it’s too late.

What has worked for us is being honest with our kids. When we don’t know something, we say, “we don’t know.” If we make a mistake, we apologize, and when they ask why we explain why.

We empower our kids to be themselves and to enjoy life. Remembering children are people too, and they deserve the same grace that we give ourselves. ❤️

Today let’s discuss “FEAR.” I’ve realized that I’ve spent most of my life operating in a space called FEAR, like most of you. Am I good enough, am I doing enough, will people like it, am I going to say the right thing, did I say the wrong thing, am I pretty enough, am I a good mother, wife, daughter, am I going to die, am I doing too much or too little, am I smart enough, etc.

This fear and self-doubt keep us all from living our full purpose and potential. Fear also allows us to blame others for our failures, when in actuality, that failure is our own.

So today, let’s give ourselves a little pep talk. Tell yourself that you are worthy, that you deserve everything you want, that you will give yourself a chance to be great. Because the worst thing that you can do is nothing and then wonder “what if?”

Be kind to yourself, love yourself, have fun with life, and every day that you wake up is another day to kick ass!!! 😘

That moment when you realize that “blessing” is your middle name!

I wake up every morning to a husband that smiles at me even when I know he's frustrated😳, kids that adore me because I'm the best mother they've ever had 🤣, and parents that want to help in every way to raise the kids and to see us succeed! If this ain’t blessings I don’t know what is.

See, we all have our moments of doubt, self-sabotaging, laziness, sadness, etc.

For every negative moment, there is a positive. Sometimes you have to sit and think of all the good that has/is happening. Open your heart, mind, and soul, and just say thank you! 🙏🏿
