Top ten favourite albums from 2024 (in no particular order - EXCEPT THIS ONE) Keeper of the Shepherd by Hannah Frances • There’s no doubt what album became a part of my life this year with repeated plays that outweighed all others. Hannah Frances’s song craft is expert without being predictable, with each song changing tact, yet keeping the common thread of her warm alto voice, adept guitar, and restrained, poetic lyrics. This is an album that is difficult to not listen to.

Top ten favourite albums of 2024 (in no particular order) • ZWAARD by BEANS It is difficult to be an innovator in a genre so ripe with novelty as hiphop, but BEANS demonstrates his continued ability to find new lyrical cadences through electronic labyrinths in his latest beat monstrosity. Abstract electronic poetry.

Top ten favourite albums of 2024 (in no particular order) • The Collective by Kim Gordon. Formed in partnership with producer Justin Raisen, Gordon’s distinctive delivery, lyrics, and sonics make this album a distinctive piece of art. She has done what few artists can do in the later stages of their career by creating something very fresh and stylish without the feel of keeping-up-with-the-Joneses.

Top Ten Favourites of 2024 (in no particular order) • Colin Fisher’s Suns of the Heart. Along with his co-composer / producer David Psutka, Colin Fisher has been able to extend his virtuosity into new directions with his latest solo work. Combining guitar and saxophone , Psutka serves as conduit for Fisher’s expressiveness through his mastery of his instruments, stretching their possibilities.

Top Ten Favourite Albums of 2024 (in no particular order) • Afghan-American musician and composer Qais Essar’s album Echoes of the Unseen is a serene instrumental articulation of traditional rabab music from Afghanistan infusing a modern spirit through his desire to push the traditional form.

Top Ten Favourites of 2024 (in no particular order): Songs Of a Lost World by the Cure. Happy Gothmas!!! We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Christmas than celebrating the Goth Father’s latest album. Robert Smith has given us a late career (is that fair to say?) masterpiece in a glittering dirge fit to ride out the slow apocalypse of late stage capitalism. 🖤🖤🖤

Top Ten Favourite Albums of 2024 - #3 in no particular order: Rick White and the Sadies • It was hard to imagine the Sadies continuing without their beloved brother and co-conspirator Dallas Good, let alone growing as artists. Along with Dallas and Sadie’s close friend Rick White l, they have created something truly beautiful out of their collective friendship and love for their brother Dallas.

Number two in no particular order from our Top Ten Favourites of 2024: Raffertie’s soundtrack to Coralie Fargeat’s feminist body horror spectacle the Substance. Raffertie’s soundtrack made the film. Without it it’s hard to imagine what would have propelled Elizabeth Sparkle’s exercise routine, or her distorted transformation into Monstro Elisasue.

Mudtown Top 10 Favourites from 2024 • (In no particular order) Evil Does Not Exist from Eiko Ishibashi is the soundtrack to the film of the same name by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. Interestingly, Hamaguchi created the film script from ideas generated from Ishibashi’s music after working with her on a visual project for her music. Be sure to see the film as well! Lush, sensuous, but also pregnant with meaning.
