The long-awaited release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 full game has finally arrived, exceeding many Sacramento City College Students’ expectations. Filled with anticipation, many students, including myself, played the game as soon as it launched on Oct. 25.

During the beta, Black Ops 6 had only select game modes available; however, the full release added an abundance of additional modes. These include “Search and Destroy, Control, Headquarters, Free-For-All, Infection, Zombies” and the single-player Campaign. The developers also included a new feature allowing you to “quick play” any multiplayer game mode. This enabled players to select whichever modes they desired and have the game run a randomizer to the currently check-marked variants.

Black Ops 6 is a very well-designed game with stunning graphics and shaders. However, most players shared the experience of slow loading times for the shaders to activate, which takes about five minutes to wait on the title screen. Another notable glitch is an issue with the levels of each player not loading correctly, displaying everyone as level one.

Overall, I have had a positive experience with the game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has an outstanding balance of fun game modes, new features, and minimal gameplay issues. I eagerly await the release of more updates, including one of the most famous Call of Duty maps, Nuketown.

Crepeville, in midtown Sacramento, offers a vast menu that is a great spot for a laid-back brunch.

Located at 1730 L St., Crepeville’s outdoor seating options add to the charm of the restaurant, offering a relaxed space where guests can enjoy the fresh air and an open setting. The counter-service was efficient and friendly, allowing us to enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

Crepeville delivers a straightforward yet enjoyable dining experience with a wide-ranging menu catering to sweet and savory tastes. All of the food tasted extremely fresh, and the drinks were something to come back for, especially the raspberry Italian soda, which I have been craving ever since.
For anyone looking for a casual and enjoyable brunch in Sacramento, Crepeville is an excellent and consistent choice.

The Clubs and Events Board is hosting its annual Club Day in the quad on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sacramento City College.

Joining a club provides students with many different opportunities. When students join a club, they are able to connect with other students who share similar interests, provide valuable services to the campus and community, learn new skills, become more involved in school activities and have fun.

Roughly 17 clubs are expected to be in attendance, recruiting students to become members of their club. Business Society, National Student Nurses’ Association, Programming Club, Puente Club, Black Student Union, Pasifika Connections and the Craft Club are just a few to be in attendance.

Since the event is being held on Halloween, students can also expect for there to be candy and a barbecue held at 12 p.m.

Sacramento City College English Prof. Eve Imagine published her first novel, “Body in Script,” a book she hopes will resonate with readers’ emotions.

Imagine’s novel, “Body in Script,” follows Chava and Stephen, a couple navigating life after Chava awakens from thoracic surgery and is now in a body that she is learning to live in. The story takes place over the years of the couple’s life.

Although “Body in Script” is a fictional book, real-life experiences, conversations and people all helped inspire Imagine’s writing. The first chapter of the book heavily revolves around Imagine’s own personal experiences.

As a professor, Imagine wants to leave a positive impact on people. When she was young she did not have a mentor, so she wants to be that for other people.

Aftershock 2024 astounded Sacramento City College students in the world of rock, bringing an unforgettable weekend of entertainment with a legendary lineup. With over 160,000 attendees and 130 bands performing, Aftershock hit record-breaking attendance numbers.

The full lineup featured relatively new artists and rising talents, such as Deadlands and Jigsaw Youth, established around 2019 and 2020. However, to the excitement of many attendees, classic rock and metal icons also took the stage, including Mötley Crüe, formed in 1981, and the oldest appearing band, Judas Priest, formed in 1969.

During Set It Off, a band formed in 2008, one of the bigger moshing events occurred as the lead singer Cody Carson encouraged fans to form a wall of death. The wall of death began with people in the crowd being split down the middle, then once the beat dropped, everyone ran into the middle and started a large-scale mosh pit.

The atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive as many attendees danced with high energy throughout the venue.

Three skunks were captured and euthanized following the incident to be tested by the Sacramento County Public Health Laboratory, according to public health officials. Two of the three skunks tested positive on Oct. 17, and a fourth was later captured and euthanized for testing.

In a conversation with Lisa Hayden, a student support specialist from the ASHÉ Center, she shares that they are holding various “Village Time” workshops, which emphasize community connection and the sharing of knowledge. Attendees will learn about various topics aimed at empowering students, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging academic and personal growth.

“From the workshops, we always want our students to feel empowered and also to gain a deeper knowledge of resources that can help them navigate their educational journey. We want them to feel empowered, connected, knowledgeable about resources, and then also just a feeling of belonging.” - Lisa Hayden

The ASHÉ Center at Sacramento City College is a vital space for students of African descent, providing cultural, social and educational support. Established in 2019 and based on the principles of the Umoja program (a statewide program in the California Community Colleges system now offered at 70-plus campuses), the center offers resources, including peer mentorship, counseling and professional development to aid students in their academic journey.

Netflix has just dropped a new one this year, “It’s What’s Inside.” A psychological thriller about a classic board game, this movie follows a group of people meeting up for a friend’s pre-wedding party. There, they reminisce about the good old days and explain they all had been missing a particular friend.

It had me on the edge of my seat, but not too bad that I wanted to look away. There is no gore in this movie or slashing, so if that is your thing this is not the movie for you. However, this movie had my jaw on the floor with all its twists.

I recommend this movie, especially if you are having a movie night with your friends or partner. You stayed glued to the screen. So grab your loved ones, make some popcorn balls and get comfy.

This movie is a trip.

The Latino Book & Family Festival came to Sacramento City College on Sept. 28, featuring vendors, celebrity award-winning speakers and local artists to showcase their books, art and to speak to the community.

The music was getting the crowd up and dancing, enjoying the moment with the family. It was refreshing to see people of all ages and different ethnicities having fun and enjoying the Latino culture.

Actor Edward James Olmos talked to the crowd and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. He had the whole audience’s attention. He told us the importance of books and giving back to youth. The importance of self-esteem, self respect and self worth.

Overall, this was an amazing event, and I will be returning next year. Despite it being a very hot day, it was still a packed crowd. I had so much fun and learned so much, thanks to City College and the event organizers.

The new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 multiplayer beta launch has gamers at Sacramento City College buzzing with excitement. Featuring new movement mechanics called ‘omni-movement,’ Call of Duty 6 provides a unique experience for enthusiasts of the game series.

I have found this omni-movement to be revolutionary, changing the entire direction of Call of Duty in various ways. While many others may not share this same opinion, I find this multiplayer launch to be the most fun of every game I have tried in the franchise. Diving in any direction desired while shooting provides a fun twist to allow more variety within trick shots.

The game modes available to play during beta were multiplayer missions known as “Kill Order, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Face Off Team Deathmatch and Face Off Kill Confirmed.” Of each of these game modes, I found “Domination” to be the most enjoyable as it incorporated all of my favorite elements from each category into one.

Overall, the game’s performance, features, and general gameplay have been extraordinarily exciting to many City College students. I eagerly await the official release date of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set for October 25, 2024.

09/10/2024

Sacramento City College’s Asian and Pacific Islander Center, where students are encouraged to stay rooted in their culture, hosted its second annual Manit Day on Sept. 26.

The City College festival started off with a prayer by Pastor Scotty Luke. He spoke in his native language then repeated it in English. He was a soft-spoken man, but his words were very powerful as everyone’s attention was on him.

The students put on a fashion show representing their countries. The fashion show creator, Weriana Francis, featured everything from the Marshall Islands to Fiji to Samoa. Everyone was on their feet dancing, celebrating and enjoying the moment.

Next, the dance team Boom Shakalaka performed, and they had the crowd throwing candy, clapping and dancing. The festival ended with Lokboj presenting Alex Tamasoa as the new vice president.

“I feel like when students are able to share their culture and see that the campus appreciates their culture it helps them feel like they belong,” Ameilia Tuifua, a City College counselor said. “It also helps them stay enrolled and succeed academically.”
