We want to help make it a little less chaotic for you, because you deserve it!

Maybe you’re mostly the one making the holidays special for everyone or maybe you have a helping hand from your partner and/or family.

No matter what your holiday prep looks like, we hope you can carve out a little bit of time to actually enjoy the holidays too. 🎄

Tune in to this week's episode to learn about what we are doing for the holidays, and how we are balancing the holiday load with our families.

21/12/2022

All I want for Christmas is…🎄

A balanced holiday load. Right, mamas?

In a 2006 study by the American Psychological Association it was found that “holiday stress has a particular impact on women, who take charge of many of the holiday celebrations, particularly the tasks related to preparing meals and decorating the home.”

While the research in this particular article was done 15+ years ago, the findings still ring true today.

In this week’s episode, and discuss some ways in which we can balance the load of the holidays with our partners.

Do you find that you take on most of the responsibilities around the holidays? We want to know!

talks in depth about why we need to start putting ourselves first. As moms, we often struggle with prioritizing ourselves because we think of everyone else's needs first.
What if taking care of ourselves is exactly what our family needs from us?
▶️ Pack the lunchable if it means you get a few extra minutes in the morning to sleep in. It's okay.
▶️ Eat off paper plates if it means you don't have to spend 30 minutes cleaning up after dinner. No one will notice.
▶️ Put your kids to bed in their school clothes for the next day if it'll save you the headache from getting them dressed in the morning. They'll think it's hilarious.
Give yourself permission to control what you can to make YOUR life easier, because YOUR sanity, well-being, and time matter, too.
Remember, Mama.... You got this.

What do you need to give yourself permission for?

12/12/2022

👉 How often do you find yourself doing the dishes during your baby's nap time? Or, folding the laundry right after putting the kids to bed? Better yet, how often are you scrolling on your phone searching for activities to do with your kids, or shopping for them, instead of for you?

Obviously, your children are a priority. But, their needs, and your partners needs, are not the #1 thing you are responsible for. YOU are #1, Mama. 💯

Your livelihood did not get erased when you became a Mom. You still deserve sleep, time for yourself, a solo-trip, and to put YOUR needs and desires first before everyone else's.

We hear from so many Mamas who feel guilty for doing things for themselves. Well, listen up, Mama... you have NOTHING to feel guilty about. Your kids and family need a happy and healthy Mama, so, you do you!

If you've been around for awhile, you know that we always say: If we can heal the Mamas, we can heal the world. Well, Mama, it's high time we start prioritizing ourselves.

Can you relate?

Our childhood; good, bad, or somewhere in between, is ever present when we have children of our own.
When works with clients, she often hears that they "feel bad" for talking negatively about their childhood. She often hears statements like, "...but overall my parents were amazing!" or "They did the best that they could."
Here is the thing: We can do a deep dive into our childhoods and where our belief systems come from without villainizing our parents along the way.

We 𝙙𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 have, and in this week’s episode you get a front row seat into our childhood upbringings and how we are trying to shift the generational cycles as we parent our own kids.

So, how do we break the cycle? Well, you’re going to have to tune in to find out.

▶️ Did you know that pregnant women over the age of 35 are considered “geriatric”?
Women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist has the “Pelvic Floor” once again, along with motherhood wellness expert , as she does a deep dive into all things AMA (Advanced Maternal Age).

When a woman becomes pregnant after 35, she is considered to be of advanced maternal age. But, what exactly does that even mean? What are some of the increased risks associated with pregnancy and women over the age of 35. Does your prenatal care have to change, and if so, how?

Marcy shares her own experience as a woman of advanced maternal age when she was pregnant at 35, and Alyson explains how the idea that “the clock is ticking” can affect a woman's mental health.

Did you resign from your job in 2021? If not, did you consider it? ⏬

In 2021, a total of 48 million people quit their jobs. 🤯 For mothers especially, the pandemic presented a whole new set of complexities regarding balancing work and family life.

In our latest episode of , we talked about one article in particular from .ly that highlighted some reasons why mothers left the workplace in 2021. They included:

1️⃣ Childcare Issues
2️⃣ Combining a Career + Motherhood
3️⃣ Dissatisfaction with their Employer
4️⃣ Freedom to Work Remotely

Their survey of over 17,000 mothers cited that 26% said childcare issues were the number one reason they made a change in their professional life and more than the majority reported that the stress and financial burden of childcare made them consider leaving the workforce altogether.

We want to know: did you consider leaving your job? If so, was it for any of these reasons? Tell us in the comments ⏬

There is still so much to learn when it comes to endometriosis. ⏬

Though, painful or heavy periods are the most common symptom, many people have no symptoms at all. In the United States, it is estimated that 6.5 million women and girls as young as 8 suffer from endometriosis, and 89 million women worldwide.

Endometriosis often begins with the start of menstrual periods and gets worse over time. In adults, endometriosis has been associated with chronic pelvic pain and infertility. While no one knows the exact cause of endometriosis, it is a common occurence in families.

While there is no cure for endometriosis, early diagnosis and treatment have been shown to improve the lives of affected teens. Those who have endometriosis from a young age often have difficulty getting an accurate diagnosis (mostly because of the still-common belief that endometriosis does not affect this age group), but it is also because they are too embarrassed or confused to talk about their symptoms.

If you have endometriosis, when were you diagnosed? What symptoms did you experience?

▶️ ▶️ What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis affects up to 10% of women between the ages of 15 and 44. It most often occurs on or around reproductive organs in the pelvis or abdomen, including:

🟣 Fallopian tubes
🟣 Ligaments around the uterus (uterosacral ligaments)
🟣 Lining of the pelvic cavity
🟣 Ovaries
🟣 Outside surface of the uterus
🟣 Space between the uterus and the re**um or bladder

Endometrial tissue growing in these areas does not shed during a menstrual cycle like healthy endometrial tissue inside the uterus does. The buildup of abnormal tissue outside the uterus can lead to inflammation, scarring and painful cysts. It can also lead to buildup of fibrous tissues between reproductive organs that causes them to “stick” together.

The most common signs of endometriosis are pain and infertility. Endometriosis pain typically presents as:

▶️ Painful menstrual cramps that may go into the abdomen (stomach) or lower back
▶️ Pain during or after s*x

Women with endometriosis can have all or some (or none) of the symptoms. The only way to get diagnosed is through a laparoscopy, which is a keyhole surgery where small incisions are made so that a small camera can be inserted.

Do you, or does someone you know, have endometriosis? We would love to hear your story! DM us or comment below ⏬

has the “pelvic floor” today (get it?), along with motherhood , as she does a deep dive into all things and how this condition can affect your pelvic floor and fertility.

▶️ ▶️ Endometriosis is often very painful. This disorder is caused when tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus (the endometrium) grows outside of your uterus.

With endometriosis, the endometrial-like tissue acts like it’s supposed to– it thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. But, because this tissue has no way to exit your body, it becomes trapped.

This can sometimes cause severe pain, especially during menstrual periods. And sadly, fertility problems may also develop.

You'll learn everything you need to know, including some of the not-so-common symptoms of this condition, when you tune in! Head to the link in our bio to listen. 🎧

We all know that having a new baby can present new and unique challenges. The research speaks for itself... couples are more likely to feel dissatisfied with their relationship after a child is born.

▶️ Even though as expecting parents, we plan and prepare for the baby's arrival, there is still so much to learn about raising a child while keeping our relationship with our partner intact. ◀️

In fact, according to research by The Gottman Institute, 67% of couples had become dissatisfied with each other during the first three years of their baby’s life. Only 33% remained content.

With any life transition, challenges are going to be inevitable. It’s normal to disagree with your partner on issues around parenting, finances, household chores, and marital expectations. But as overwhelming as that sounds, it is possible to reach a solution that everyone is happy with.

Are we right, or are we right?

Have you had a chance to listen to this week's episode? If not, 🚫 S T O P what you are doing and head to the link in our bio! Alyson gives us her #1 tip for maintaining a healthy relationship with your partner, and...it can be a quickie.

No, not that kind of quickie (but we encourage that kind if you're feeling up for it).

What we mean is, setting aside a small amount of time each week to talk with your partner. Alyson calls them, "Sunday Check-ins" and its exactly what it sounds like (of course you can pick any night of the week that works best for you and your partner).

Things that you can talk about during your check-ins:

▶️ The house ("did you call the repairman to do xyz?")
▶️ Finances
▶️ Your own upcoming work week

It might not seem like it at first, but these check-ins help to naturally bring up issues you might feel overwhelmed with. Essentially, they open the door to talk about the tougher conversations that can be hard to bring up otherwise.

Do you and your partner set aside time each week to check in with one another?

We talk all about the difference between postpartum OCD and intrusive thoughts, what's considered normal, and when it's time to speak to a professional.

When it comes to intrusive thoughts, always says, "your brain keeps you safe, not sane."

Intrusive thoughts are *totally normal*. Everyone has them. Read that again.

What intrusive thoughts have you experienced?

Listen, there isn't anything wrong with hormonal birth control. You know what we say: You do you, boo!

But, for lots of menstruating people out there, we just don't want to be on hormonal birth control anymore. So many of us go on it in our teens or early 20s, and use it for close to a DECADE before we have kids. Then, we are urged to go back on it immediately after giving birth...and...well...we're just tired of it.
