I started watching the Our Planet series on Netflix and it is so informative and breath-taking to watch. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend it. The wildlife on this planet is incredible and I cannot wait to travel more to see more of these species.

I am LOVING how gorgeous my yard is. I have a native wildflower meadow and the insects love it. I only mow a small border around it to walk the dogs. Our insect populations are in serious decline and so are the species that depend on them for food. If you’re not willing to completely ditch the lawn, please consider letting a small portion grow to benefit wildlife. Remember, we need NATIVE plant species. Ornamental plants are absolutely useless and don’t offer proper nutrition for insects in our area.

Today has been wonderful. My dogs finally have a fenced in yard to play in (I cannot wait to introduce them to their play area tomorrow morning 😍). I explored several trails in Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge and grabbed food at my favorite restaurant (The Purple Fiddle). I finished out the day with making a delicious apple crisp.

If you’re looking for the perfect weekend getaway, check out Thomas, West Virginia. This adorable little town has the best shops and outdoor recreation opportunities. Here are my recommendations:
1) Grab a bite to eat at thepurplefiddle I love their pita bread and hummus. They offer live music performances throughout the week.
2) Check out the shops. I love visiting Bloom (it’s an art store).
3) Check out the Coke Ovens and Douglas Falls. There’s a 6 mile level trail along the river that takes you to even more waterfalls!
4) Visit Blackwater Falls State Park. It has several waterfalls and an awesome short hike to an overlook called Lindy Point. You do not want to miss it!
5) Hike the trails at Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The trailhead has bird checklists! Grab your binoculars and go see some of the local wildlife.

This town is gorgeous during every season. It’s the perfect place to visit on a rainy day too! There’s several more points of interest in this area that I did not mention in my previous post. Here they are:
1) Climb to the top of Olsen Fire Tower if you’re feeling brave. The views are incredible.
2) Hike to the Maryland High Point.
3) Visit the smallest church in 48 States.
4) Visit Fairfax Stone Monument.

I’m a bit disappointed that I still haven’t camped here 😂 my goal this year was to camp at every Maryland State Park but life just got too busy with my new business. It’s not necessarily a bad thing and I’m grateful but I really need to get out camping more next year. 🏕️

I went for a 10.5 mile bike ride along the C&O Canal in Cumberland and visited a local restaurant for some vegan ramen for lunch today. The canal was very birdy and I loved seeing the common mergansers.
