Most of the comments in those post are very disgusting.
A mom innocently went to a furrycon because she thought it was about pets but looking at the pictures, she had fun! Now where's the problem here? People are disgusted about furries for odd reasons.
So let me tell you this.
Yes, furries are pretending to be anthropomorphic animals but they're not the only ones.
Yes, cosplayers, anime & cartoon fans, and weabs are pretending to be the characters they so love.
Yes, drag queens pretend to be a woman and yet performed the house down.
Yes, people dressing up as something for halloween is count as "normal" where if it's not in Halloween then it's weird.
People want to dressup like this because it's fun and everyone had their own version of fun. For furries, dressing up in fursuits are fun because not everyone knows how to socialize face to face so they wear a costume, go to a con/eventful gathering and interact people in their costume. Same goes to cosplayers and other enthusiasts because dressing up as someone else like an OC or a character from different medias increases the confidence level of a person.
Let me tell you this. Every fandom has their own dark side. Undertale has one, Nintendo has one, Overwatch has one, the list goes on. Yet you can't just see a fandom only by the negative and ignoring the positive. A furry con, just like any other cons, are a safe space for people to have fun and not get judged by because people who go to these cons have the same interests and hobbies like every other person do.
Remember, every cosplayer, fursuiter, crossplayer, drag queen, crossdresser, enthusiasts, etc, are still a person deep down. You don't know who they are and what they've been through just to go to lengths to get a costume and go to a convention/event because they are welcomed and are loved by those community.
Now haters, remember the next time you pick up a costume and pretending to be someone else just to be socially accepted by your peers. We don't know who you are, and what you've been through but you can't judge people like furries who are having fun in their own way because what if you're in their shoes? How do you feel if people judge in the wrong way just because you're just being you? Has anyone told you "I HATE YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE DOING WEIRD S**T. STOP IT." and felt horrible because of it? That's how furries feel.
Furries are already in the bad light for a long time and people who are making events like these are just trying yo create a safe space for everyone to enjoy. Furries already have problems in their own fandom and some of them can't even show their true selves just because people like THE COMMENTERS are stopping them to have fun and be themselves. Please don't hate. It's already enough that people like furries are already bottling up their frustrations and insecurities so don't add more fire to it.
