Coup: Army Will Defend Nigeria’s Democracy At All Cost, COAS Vows

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has declared that the Nigerian military will always defend the nation’s democracy at all costs using every constitutional means.

Lt. General Lagbaja spoke at the Passing Out Parade of officers of Executive Commission Course One of the Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna State, on Saturday.

“He emphasized that the desire of every Nigerian is a flourishing, uninterrupted constitutional democratic governance, that promotes national values and the interest of every well-meaning Nigerian, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation,” the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a statement.

He is assuring of the unalloyed loyalty and commitment of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to stoutly defend the nation’s territorial integrity and ensure internal security against non-state actors such as Boko Haram terrorists, bandits, Indigenous People of Biafra (POB) and other criminal elements.

The COAS, however, warned that the activities of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorist groups in the North East, kidnappings and banditry in the North West and North Central as well as secessionist agitations by IPOB in the South East could undermine the nation’s cherished corporate existence and national security if they not immediately nipped in the bud.

According to the Army chief, the graduating officers must therefore brace up for the arduous task ahead. He said most of them will be deployed to the battlefields where their services are highly needed to surmount all security threats.

He is also warning the officers against indulging in any form of insubordination and to remain apolitical in discharging their constitutional duties of protecting their fatherland.

“I, therefore, charge all Nigerian Army personnel to be proud champions of our flourishing democracy and remain apolitica

PHOTOS: Tinubu Receives World Bank President, Ajay Banga

President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, received the World Bank delegation led by its President, Ajay Banga, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In a statement, the bank disclosed that Banga will begin a three-day visit to Nigeria on the 3rd of August, and will focus his time in Nigeria on identifying opportunities to create jobs for young people and women, addressing energy needs and renewable energy, and further exploring the potential for digitisation.

The statement read, “This is the next step of a global tour that is at the center of a mission to write a new playbook for the 78-year-old institution.

“As part of these efforts, he will visit a World Bank-financed mini-grid power plant that provides solar energy to an entire community and a woman-owned business that has generated more than 1,500 service-sector jobs for young Nigerians.

“In addition, the World Bank will convene discussions with representatives from the private sector and civil society.”

Northern Senators Advise Tinubu Against Military Intervention as Customs Closes Nigeria-Niger Republic Border

Members of the Northern Senators group within the 10th National Assembly have issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to refrain from employing military measures to address the crisis in Niger.

Meanwhile, the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has announced the closure of the Nigeria-Niger border at Illela in Sokoto State.

The border, stretching across 1,608 kilometers and connecting seven northern Nigerian states - Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno - with five regions in the Niger Republic, has been closed in line with President Bola Tinubu's directive to address the situation concerning the Ilela Border in Sokoto State and counter the military junta's activities in Niger Republic.

KADUNA STATE😭😭😭What A Life

A lady by the name Bridget Stephen reportedly died in her room for some days, In Zaria Kaduna State, and had been decomposing with maggots gushing out of her body. Nobody knew about her death until neighbours eventually noticed the odd smell from her room.

I'm posting this for a reason because some of us, our friends do not know where we live, we don't even allow people to visit us because we want peace of mind.

I want you to know this, we need each others support, we need each other's love and companionship. For the fact that you can even share your pains with someone you trust or call a friend is something. Sole of these confidants could be family members, call them.

We cannot distance ourselves because we want to stay away from what we term as disturbance or we think we no longer need anyone in our lives.

Let's be each other's keepers.

May her gentle soul rest in peace 💔

West Africa’s regional bloc said Friday its military chiefs have agreed a plan for a possible intervention in Niger, after the junta failed to restore civilian rule there following last week’s coup.

In a sign of a partial return to normality, the junta on Friday lifted a curfew in force since the takeover.

France has evacuated 1,079 people from the country, more than half of them French nationals, while the United States said it had chartered a plane to evacuate non-essential personnel and US citizens wishing to leave.

Spain said it had evacuated more than 70 people, including 16 Spanish nationals, from Niger aboard a government-chartered Airbus A330 military plane.

My Grandchild Died Of Medical Neglect In Govt Hospital, Says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has narrated how he lost a grandchild due to medical neglect in a government hospital.

He said this on Friday during the ministerial screening on the floor of the upper lawmaking body in Abuja.

The former Akwa Ibom State governor spoke during Tunji Alausa’s screening as a ministerial nominee of President Bola Tinubu.

While Alausa was grilled and provided solutions to issues in Nigeria’s healthcare system, the lawmaker admitted to being a victim of medical neglect.

“Every other person has been a victim of medical neglect,” Akpabio said.

“My first grandchild in 2019 in a federal medical centre died through bleeding. He was receiving drip and it was tissued in the night — there was no help,” the former governor added.

“He was looking for water to drink. He rolled on the floor outside and entered the early morning dew. No doctor, no nurse. He bled until he lost 60 percent of his blood and almost going mental, he struggled and fell on the floor.

“By that time, he had gone into a coma,” Senator Akpabio noted.

Further narrating his experience, he said: “I struggled. They went and brought a defibrillator to attempt to revive the heart, but it did not work”.

“I used my hand and struggled with my personal physician, I could not revive him. I had to close his eyes and put him in the mortuary,” said Akpabio.
