It's the day before Thanksgiving, and the boys from the VA Creative Writing group once again report on one of our all-time favorites, Dave's Valley Grill. There are two locations, and the one we are at is on the west side of I-25 but east of the Rio Grande. Good morning on this brisk Wednesday in central New Mexico. Join Tom, Gretchen, Mark, and Jim as we venture to Rio Rancho and report on an Octoberfest celebration at Dagmar's, our go-to place for all things German in New Mexico. This is one of our absolute favorites: Schnitzel for either breakfast or lunch. Take home Hungarian Goulash, Beef Rouladen, and Sauerbraten packaged for easy reheating. Weiners of all shapes and sizes. And did I mention mouth-watering desserts and cinnamon rolls? Those sticky buns are served warm, soft, and umm mm delicious. Best anywhere in New Mexico. Call ahead if you want to take out or get there early if you want sticky buns for sure - they often run out before lunch. Tables for eating in a recently added dining area. Friendly service and lots of German tchotchkes for your viewing pleasure. It is one of our most favorite places to pick up a great meal. Come join Jim and Jasmine Tritten, Mark Fleisher, Jack and Alice London, and Joe Badal (watch until the bitter end for Joe's outtake) as they visit Davanti Enoteca San Diego in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy. We had a most extraordinary culinary experience with superb Italian food and impeccable service by Roberta in a festive setting worth the trip. Now, we only had to go on a short Uber ride from our Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) conference to a restaurant recommended by Adam Card, who had been stationed at NAS North Island. One of our greatest pleasures is to return to an outstanding restaurant repeatedly. Welcome to this week's report by Manana Cafe. The VA Creative Writing Group boys have returned to our favorite New Mexico dim sum restaurant. Some dim sum restaurants have the service staff wheel around carts, and the diner selects delicacies themselves. The server brings around a laminated menu and marker at IT Dim Sum. Patrons circle the items they want and the number of helpings. Magically, it all shows up. We love this place and know you will, too. Great food, helpful wait staff, and some attractive interior decor. We have been there for dance days and recommend them highly.
