A Different Point of View

Pixar movies really are DIFFERENT. I think there is this false belief out there that these movies are just for kids. I respectfully disagree. They give us heartwarming moments, somber moments, and you can’t forget about laugh-out-loud moments. They sneak up on you. Sure, it’s not Star Wars(this is coming from a big Star Wars fan lol). Sure, they aren’t always action-packed. But the lessons are there for us all. It doesn’t matter how old you are. These movies really are just so creative and special. Who comes up with the idea for an old man to fly away by way of balloons on top of his house? Who comes up with the idea for a fish with short-term memory loss helping a father clown fish find his lost son? Who comes up with the idea for a movie portraying our emotions? What about monsters going to college? It’s all so creative!!! I certainly have learned new things about myself after catching some of these stories. This weekend, if you don’t know how to spend some of your time, watch something from Pixar, please. 🎥💡😊

I had a pretty neat realization this morning. Raise your hand if you have seen Pixar’s Inside Out(I’m just realizing that I can’t see who is raising their hand). If you haven’t seen it, it’s one of Pixar’s most creative films. It dives into the functions of human emotions with a fun, childlike perspective. The story revolves around a girl named Riley and more specifically, inside her mind with the emotions Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. Sadness is obviously all about what her name says. She is always very blue and negative about life. Her sad personality brings everyone down, and she doesn’t believe she’s worth much. But Joy, who is responsible for the happiness of Riley, realizes something very important. After seeing a sad memory of Riley’s that turned happy, Joy realizes that Sadness is worth so much. The job of Sadness is to alert other’s when Riley is emotionally overwhelmed and needs help. Sadness gets a bad wrap, as does every negative emotion. But every emotion and feeling is of equal importance. When we get sad, angry, fear, etc., those are all signs that we need help from other people. Maybe we need a hug or just someone letting us know that we’re not alone. Every feeling and emotion matters! When you are sad, it’s really a call for help. Good people will be there for you. 😊

Has there ever been a moment in your life where you just decided to flip a switch? Maybe it was a football game where you decided that nobody was going to stop you from getting that ball into the end zone. Maybe you stood up to a bully at school. Maybe you nailed your presentation at work. Whatever it is, it’s almost like a defining moment. This image above is one of Captain Marvel. If you’ve seen some of my recent posts, that’s been my film for sure these last few months. Without spoiling it all, the movie is essentially about Captain Marvel discovering who she is. I know that we can all obviously relate to that. There is one decisive moment within the movie where she rises up and discovers the power within herself. She chooses to not let other people tell her what she is capable of. Nothing can limit her from helping others. You see all the energy and power coursing through her veins. That’s Captain Marvel flipping the switch. But remember, flipping the switch doesn’t necessarily mean getting angry. It means you’re tapping into something deep down inside yourself. It means you aren’t afraid. It means you have this new sense of confidence and optimism about yourself that is unique to you. No fear. No anxiety. No worries. That’s why this image is my screensaver. Not the point lol. But take this lesson to heart. To be honest, nobody knows you better than you know yourself. I don’t care how old you are. I don’t care what other people think they know. You control your story. It’s your narrative. You have the power. So when the next decisive moment comes in your life, flip that switch. Tap into that power deep down inside yourself. Remember who you are. Nobody but you controls the story. 🚀💪🔥

- Today, I watched Monster’s Inc. for the first time in a long time. I’m going to spoil the end because the movie is 20 years old and if you haven’t seen it, I’m sorry. At the end of the movie, the monsters turn Monsters Incorporated from a scare factory into a funny factory. They decide to change the way they do business. Instead of trying to get a big reaction from scared kids, they decide to go make kids laugh. They perform comedy bits and throw parties for kids to make them laugh and experience joy. That’s a happy ending right there that I’m very thrilled to have seen. I think that we all need more joy. That’s the bottom line. That is all truth. Tonight, I laughed the hardest I had laughed in weeks. Laughter beats fear in this life every single time. Trust me!!!
