Russian president, Vladimir Putin has arrived in China this morning in rare trip abroad.

The Russian president, who will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a forum on the Belt and Road initiative, has traveled little overseas because of an international arrest warrant over his war in Ukraine.

Putin and Chinese President, Xi Jinping declared a “no-limits” partnership in Beijing in February 2022.

This widely watched trip is aimed at showcasing the deep mutual trust and “no-limits” partnership between China and its giant neighbour.

Putin and his entourage flew into the Beijing Capital International Airport on Tuesday morning, according to Reuters video footage, in the Kremlin chief’s first official trip outside of the former Soviet Union this year.

Putin has traveled little abroad since the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for him in March, accusing him of illegally deporting children from Ukraine. Putin visited Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet republic, earlier this month.

16/10/2023

Sir Jim Ratcliffe to pay £1.3bn for 25 per cent stake in Premier League club, Manchester United following the withdrawal by interested buyers from the Arab side, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will pay £1.3bn for 25 per cent of the club; Sheikh Jassim is understood to have raised his offer for Man Utd in June but it was not satisfactory for the Glazers despite being far more than the club's $3.3bn valuation on the New York Stock Exchange.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe will pay £1.3bn for 25 per cent of Manchester United after Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani withdrew from the bidding process.

Sheikh Jassim's offer, which valued United at more than £5bn, was believed to be the only bid for 100 per cent of the club. But it is understood that the Qatari's valuation was not sufficient for the Glazers, who have owned United since 2005 - so Sheikh Jassim has withdrawn from the process.
The other proposal is to buy around 25 per cent of the club by Ratcliffe, who has said he has been a fan of the club since childhood, with the deal needing to be agreed at a United board meeting this week. Ratcliffe and his company INEOS are expected to run Manchester United's football operations as part of the deal to purchase 25 per cent, which could be the first step in a phased takeover.

The petrochemicals billionaire initially wanted to buy all of the Glazers' 67 per cent shareholding.
'Ratcliffe is overpaying - Sheikh Jassim did his best'
One source who has followed the process closely told Sky Sports News:
"What is happening is totally unreal. The Glazers' valuation is insanely fanciful. Sheikh Jassim offered them almost double the market capitalisation. He was a cash buyer, he was going to clear all their debts, there would have been no new debt and he was going to put in another £1.4bn for the stadium and the team.
"All that still wasn't enough for the Glazers. What we're left with now, after almost a year, is someone who is going to overpay for 25 per cent of the club. They are arguably the greatest and most historic football club on the planet and after a year there's just one bidder and he can only stump up enough for 25 per cent. It's a joke. If they just wanted to sell a minority stake, they could have done it privately last November. The market dictates what United are worth, not the Glazers or Raine. Remember when there were apparently eight serious bidders? All along there has only been one bidder for 100 per cent of the club so why should he bid against himself?
"Ratcliffe is overpaying and any valuation higher than Sheikh Jassim is sheer lunacy.
"If he can only afford to buy 25 per cent to start with, who is going to pay for the new stadium? Who is going to fix the leaking roof? Who is going to pay for the new training centre and new players and community projects?
"United can't keep up with Brighton these days, never mind Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal. And don't even think about the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

This is the amazing story of how Tesla saved the life of one of the first Israelis to face Hamas. The story appeared on Walla website (link in the comments):

This is not how C, a resident of Kibbutz Mefalsim, planned to spend last Shabbat. But minutes after the Hamas forces invaded the settlements outside Gaza, C, a member of the settlement's emergency squad, was called to an incident. He rushed to his Tesla Model 3 Performance and started driving to the assembly point. His Apple Watch was stopped by a shrapnel at 6:50.

Photos that appeared for the first time on the Tesla Israel Telegram channel document what happened next. Speaking from Sheba Hospital where he is hospitalized after a series of head and hand surgeries, he spoke about a drive he will never forget.

"The terrorists recognized me from a distance of 10 yards. In addition to their Kalashnikovs, they had a machine gun that fired bullets of a larger caliber. They did not realize that it was an EV, so they shot at the front, hoping to hit the engine that wasn't there, and at the back, trying to set the fuel tank on fire. Of course there was also no fuel tank. They shot my tires. I pressed the accelerator, and they started chasing me."

In this battle it was a Toyota truck against one driver in a private car. But it was also a chase between a diesel truck with about 150 hp, against an electric sedan with more than 530 hp and dual drive. About 15 well-armed terrorists facing a wounded, but determined driver, who found himself fighting for his life hundreds of meters from his home.

"They shot my tires, but the acceleration of the Tesla is amazing even in this situation, and the dual drive managed to keep me on the road. I quickly got away from them, but I realized that I had to get to the hospital as soon as possible and I drove at a speed of 112 mph with flat tires. The tires started to crumble, but the dual drive balanced out the wheels, some of which were already on the rims. According to the app, I continued to drive at around 110 mph."

C had already made the journey from Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon in an ambulance, after the bullet-riddled Tesla managed to bring him to the hospital gates. Although about 100 bullet holes were counted in the car, the front window remained cracked all the way but did not disintegrate. The windows of the doors were smashed by the rescue teams who rushed to get him out and transfer him to treatment.

"Bullets hit my legs and hand, got one in the skull and I was also hit by shrapnel. But my head works, and motivation kept me on the road and even now in the hospital. The car continued to drive, the battery didn't heat up, but it took a lot of damage. There is no part that didn't take a bullet. It still drives if you press the pedal, but it seems to me that I should already be thinking about my next Tesla."

The photo of the Tesla is curtesy of the family. The other photos are published according to Section 27 A of the Copyright Law.

Norway, as part of plans of undertaking structural reforms of the Foreign Service has decided that changes are being made in the diplomatic presence abroad.

In 2024, the Norwegian Embassy in Uganda via its website revealed that Uganda will be one of the nations where it will be closing its embassy after years of investing efforts in priority areas such as civil society, education, energy, refugees and women’s rights.

Despite it's forthcoming closure, many Norwegian firms continue to carry out business in Uganda’s different sectors.

Norway’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the “closure of the Embassy in Kampala does not mean that Norwegian aid to the country will be discontinued, or that there will be less focus on the rights of women and minorities.

The Ugandan Norwegian Embassy was serving both Rwanda and Burundi.
