NEAT- Non-exercise activity thermogenesis is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise.
We need to keep this in mind when training, planning and fueling. How much energy are we using during the day outside of training. On hard training days can we adjust? Do we just need to keep that in mind when fueling?
Also keep it in mind if you got a rut in your training. Our bodies do so much during the day that we don’t always realize!

Fall sports have started or are about to start! Youth athletes need to be prepared to transition back into organized sports from a summer of fun. Check out these tips from concussion.org We need to make sure we know to signs of injury and concussion. Get a physical to make sure all kids are starting in good health. Get the proper protective equipment-some things are fine to get second hand and others may be safer when bought new. Also we need to make sure they have a base of movement before getting into intense physical practices. Not only will having some base of endurance help them but it also will prepare the muscles and ligaments for the strain! Kids need to drink!! One thing I noticed this summer is as a coach, I need to remind my runners to drink. Not only do children not always recognize they are thirsty or dehydrating but they also have learned they need to ask for breaks from structured activities. We try to remind the kids to drink between every transition of activity at practice. 🥛🥛🥛🥛Hydration information: Signs of dehydration in children can include…Frequent bathroom breaks are the easiest way to tell if your child is hydrated. Had a great, chilly, humid run this morning with a great running group. We talked about races, eating before runs and vacations. We also talked about stroller running, being a stroller passenger and having your parent as coaches. One theme that comes up all the time when talking to runners is how amazing the running community can be. It was a great reminder out on the trail today while I ran with my group that there were so many other groups out there moving!!!#runningcommunity #runningpodcast #runclub #runningthoughts
