💲 The state seeded the Infrastructure Bank with $75 million in general obligation bonds, bringing outside funding into Nevada for the projects. Local and tribal governments and nonprofits are able to borrow capital from the bank at a lower cost than other borrowing options.

After months of work to establish Nevada’s State Infrastructure Bank, the bank is now ready to begin taking applications for funding.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

BLM also said an additional nearly 70,000 acres of land in the Dixie Valley area of Churchill County are withdrawn from leasing under the mineral leasing laws. Another more than 66,000 acres of non-federal lands are in the withdrawal area.

Officials with the Bureau of Land Management last week said the agency had extended the withdrawal of nearly 685,000 acres of public lands in connection with Naval Air Station Fallon.

A majority of the funds—more than $995,000 — will be dedicated to building fences to protect sagebrush habitat from grazing cattle and large scale removal of native pinyon juniper trees, which the department says would reduce wildfires and increase habitat for species that require open sagebrush lands free of trees.

Nevada will be receiving a total of $1.5M for projects across the state meant to fund sagebrush habitats in an effort to combat invasive grasses and wildfire, protect wetlands, and support the regional economy.
