Nos galan gaeaf hapus! The nawr team have been hibernating by designing the magazine, we are very excited to provide comfort this Autumn season through art and creativity. We’re focusing on how art can be comforting during these colder months, especially going on long walks, listening to comforting music, spending time in nature. We can’t wait for you to see the issue! 🍃 🧣

🌅NEW THEME: DEFFRO/AWAKEN 🌅
nawr is awaking from a slumber; opening our eyes and looking around to take stock of where we now stand. This new, first print issue to feature the work of our contributors , is a fresh start, but also is the culmination of those dreams we have kept note of in the night.
To ‘awaken’ is to stir, to be grounded by realisation. The world is a tumultuous and frightening place to live right now, but it is also stirring so many of us to activism; we have been awakened to injustice, to mobilise, to share thought. These moments of awakening reflect and inform our own personal moments of awakening throughout our lives. On journeys of self-exploration, the experiences we have sometimes culminate in one, final moment of awakening.
For this issue, we are looking for work responding to the theme of ‘deffo/awaken’. What is it to be awoken? What world do we want to wake up to in the morning? What moments of awakening have you experienced? Is there something within you longing to be awoken; or a person you need to wake up?
As always we welcome any and all creative responses to our theme. We accept submissions of poetry, short stories (500-800 words), philosophy/creative critical essays (500-800 words), art and photography based around this theme. Submissions can be sent to [email protected] with subject line [YOUR NAME/CATEGORY/TITLE OF PIECE]. You must include your name and location along with your submission: we are looking for work from Welsh and Wales-based creatives. nawr te, where have we been?!
well - all over!! Anna has been prepping for a MAMMOTH hike in July; Martha FINALLY handed in her PhD and started a new job; Beth’s been travelling around Europe and Alice has been up to Anglesey and back to Mach again for cultural shows. and in between, we’ve all been out in nature, in Snowdonia, Machynlleth, and the Preselis.
Basically - it’s been a time of huge change and movement and we’re being gentle with ourselves! now it’s time to get back together and get things moving, ready for our first contributor-oriented print edition. we’ll keep you up to date with our plans for it, but in the meantime please do buy or share our print copies - there are still some available in the link in our bio!

✨NAWR IN PRINT✨AVAILABLE 8TH APRIL✨
It's finally here! We are so excited to bring you nawr's first venture into print - issue 11: four years.
This issue is a little different from nawr's usual offerings. We decided that before we handled our contributor's work, we wanted to reflect on where we've come from and the work we've produced over the past four years, as well as writing about some of our favourite pieces featured in our online issues. The result is 'four years', a reflective zine written by co-editors Anna and Martha with a contribution from our resident music blogger, Jordan. The issue is printed on high-quality recycled paper and is beautifully designed by Anja Quinn and Beth McAulay.
A link to purchase the magazine from our online store is in our bio, and the issues will be available to buy on the 8th of April. Please note that this is a LIMITED RUN of just fifty copies. We anticipate quite a bit of interest but would like to time to take stock of resources and capacity - we've always moved slowly, but intentionally! ❤
Thank you so much for your patience and excitement with this project. We are genuinely so, so excited to share this zine with you, and we hope you enjoy reading our reflections on these four years - we couldn't have done it without you. ❤

We're so proud to have join our team as a Social Media Designer, helping us with beautiful graphics (like this one!). Alice says:
'Hello, my name is Alice and I have been living in Machynlleth for nearly a year now. Being surrounded by Welsh culture has been a truly inspiring experience for me. This immersion has sparked my interest in Welsh artists and the Welsh language. I am thrilled to share that my work has been featured in Nawr magazine, and I am honored to be a part of their exciting transition into print.'
Alice has already been at the helm of and produced some amazing issues featuring work from inspirational female artists. Check out her work over there, too!

NAWR: FOUR YEARS - COVER REVEAL ✨
here it is - what we've been working so hard on behind the scenes! soon, you'll be able to order a copy of nawr: four years. this limited run of zines is a reflection on the last four years at nawr, with words from co-editors, Anna and Martha (plus highlights from music blogger Jordan!). it has been lovingly designed by Beth McAulay and Anja Quinn, and we are so excited to put it out into the world. if you're new to nawr and want to see what we're all about, or a long-time follower who wants to reminisce alongside us, Anna and Martha reflect here on the last four years in the Welsh arts and culture, and the development of nawr as a magazine.
the four years zine will be available on our new online shop. the first run of zines will be just 50 copies to help us get up and running to print more copies (we expect they'll be popular!) and to fund future issues of nawr, to help us make our print vision a reality.
