Both of these from one of our favorite breweries, Side Project Brewing and both a collab with Hair of the Dog Brewing out of Portland, OR which has been closed flowing the retirement of their founder, Alan Sprints.

For Alan— Blend of Oregon Bourbon Barrel Aged Strong Ale (2016 Bourbon Fred) and a new Side Project English Barleywine Recipe aged in a 7 Year Blood Oath Barrel.

A Long Time Ago— Blend of Oregon Adambier (2014 Adam and 2018 Adam) and Missouri Bourbon Barrel Aged Adambier (2022 Längst).

Apologies for the delay with our latest podcast episode. Due to some technical difficulties and a rebranding effort we are running a little behind on content. That’s the bad news.

The latest limited release from Wild Turkey U.S., the Russell’s Reserve 15 Year.

This expression is the second-oldest release from the Wild Turkey brand following its 2020 16-year-old expression and is non-chill filtered, bottled at 117.2 proof.

Had the opportunity to try this one during our latest single barrel pick. First time trying any offering from Thirteenth Colony and this is a good one.

To celebrate their 15th Anniversary the distillery released this 139.2 proof limited bottle of cask strength bourbon whiskey. This one is aged eight years and nine months.

If you happen to see this one out (it’s a longshot) we definitely recommend picking one up or trying a pour 🥃

Sipping on a new one this evening. Parish Brewing has been shipping to several years now, but this is the first time we’ve ordered this one. And the second time they’ve made it 🍻🍻

Skelehawk is a an 8% Double New England IPA, collaboration between Parish Brewing Company and Horus Aged Ales.

Per Untappd:
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…SKELEHAWK! SCRAAAAAAEEEEEWWWWW…screaming through the sky! In a collab with our friends at Horus Aged Ales, we mashed together the grain bill of our Ghost in the Machine with their Osprey’s Next Catch, thus marrying two beloved hazy IPAs from halfway across the country into one vicious bird. In the fermenter, we dosed Skelehawk with a torrential green rain of Cryo Mosaic + Strata hops, the fruit-forward flavors of these danker varieties coalescing in a golden-colored, complex cornucopia with a pillowy mouthfeel that gives hints of green melon, passionfruit, strawberry, tangerine, and papaya atop a solid citric foundation of lemons and oranges.

10+10 is a barrel aged stout collaboration between Side Project Brewing and Other Half Brewing Company
This one is a Bourbon and Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Stout finished with Cloud Cover Coffee, Hazelnuts and Vanilla Beans.

Derivation Grand Cru is a Triple & Double Barrel-Aged Imperial Stouts finished in Amburana Barrels with Ugandan Vanilla Beans.

Can’t wait to try these sometime soon! 🍻

We like whiskey and we like beer. So we felt we had to give this one a try 🥃

Description per their website: This is the premier release from Bahnbrëcker ("trailblazer" in German), a brand co-founded by country star Randy Rogers, Eric Chase, Cary Schindler, Ash Wineinger, Michael Devers, and Steve Luttmann in New Braunfels, TX. Slow River Blend is the first-ever Hefeweizen-style whiskey, made from Texas and Midwestern wheat macerated with lemon peel and clove.

Featured beers:

Deca
a prefix denoting a factor of 10. This beer represents more than 5 years of thoughtful planning and ex*****on to explore a new boundary of our barrel aged beers. The core of the blend is Double Willett Barrel Aged M.J.K. Mash #1 recipe which was brewed in May of 2021. A never released beer – a Bourbon Barrel Aged Quadruple brewed in February of 2022 – fills in the sweetness and luxurious viscosity of this blend. Where we really pushed this blend and furthermore, this beer, are with the next two threads. A barrel of Noboleis 2018 Port found a loving and purposeful spot in the final beer, adding a layer of rich fruit, deep complexity, and notes you cannot create in beer. Finally, and maybe most ambitiously, since March of 2017 we have been aging and racking the O.W.K. recipe year over year in Willett Family Estate Bourbon Barrels. This thread was quintuple barrel aged with its final resting place being an 18-year-old Willett Family Estate Bourbon barrel with Ugandan Vanilla Beans in the barrel.

Double Barrel Rye: Beer Barrel Time
From the brewer: "It is still amazing how well and uniquely Rye Barrels complement our stout recipes. With our love of Rye BBT, we wanted to explore a double barrel treatment of this popular release. Brewed in April of 2021, our VIBES recipe was racked to Still630 Rye Barrels and allowed to mature before racking it to Willett 5 year Rye Barrels for an additional rest. More than 25 months in Rye Barrels has added a new layer of rye barrel expression to our already loved Rye BBT and we are excited to include Double Barrel Rye BBT in our 10th Anniversary Box Set.

Double Barrel Derivation Double Willett Single Vanilla
Double Barrel Derivation has come in many different forms. From explorations in unique wine barrels, to being finished in exotic woods, to integrations with our favorite adjuncts. Double Willett Single Vanilla Derivation was brewed in February of 2021. Our O.W.K. recipe aged in Willett 5-year Bourbon Barrels until July of 2022 and then it was racked to Willett 4 year Bourbon Barrels for its final rest. At maturity, we racked the selected barrels to a bright tank where a blend of Vanilla Beans from Sri Lanka, Vanuatu, Madagascar, and Mexico were waiting to infuse a complimentary amount of vanilla to our double barrel expression.

Continuance (10 Year)
The special 10 Year Anniversary Blend of Continuance needed to have special threads. At first, this was going to be called Lairds Apple Brandy M.J.K., but we reserve the M.J.K. name for a beer when it has triple-barrel-aged threads as at least the main component. This double-barrel-aged English Barleywine is a blend exclusively of our M.J.K. Mash #1 recipe brewed in 2021 and aged in Willett Family Estate Bourbon Barrels. In 2022, the M.J.K. barrels were racked to fresh Lairds Apple Brandy Barrels to rest for their final 9 months.

Side Project Anniversary Box-E69

Always good to come home after a long day to a box on the front porch. And it’s time once again. We have a feeling this will be making an appearance on a new episode really soon 👀🍻

5 Year Anniversary Stout from Phase Three Brewing out of Illinois. Per Untappd, this is a project that has been going on for nearly 4 years. A blend of stouts with high proportions of rye and oats that spent time in three different new bourbon casks for a total of 45 months. Each new cask added a very intense spirit character, something we find wonderful. We decided to tame the heat by adding Papua New Guinea and Ugandan vanilla beans directly to the last round of casks as it finished. Huge notes of chocolate fondue and marshmallow with a robust presence of bourbon on the nose and in the flavor. A one-of-a-kind beer from us, that's taken a long time to produce. The boldest beer we've made at a whopping 19.4%. This one is meant to be sipped and shared. Enjoy.

And we’ve been waiting on this release since we first heard about it.

Per the website, Raconteur Rye is a carefully crafted combination of three Indiana distilled 95/5 rye whiskeys: a conventional straight rye, a straight rye aged in a new toasted oak barrel, and a straight rye finished in a second-fill Mizunara oak cask that previously held 16-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon. These whiskeys, each aged a minimum of seven years, were batched in a proprietary ratio to accent their signature attributes.

This one is a creation from Rarebird101 along with The Woodwork Collective KY. Can’t wait to try this one! 🥃🦃

In our latest episode, Wild Turkey For Your Birthday-E68, we gift (and get to try) a bottle of 1991 Wild Turkey 8 year old, 101 proof bourbon. And of course we just couldn’t enjoy that bottle of Kickin’ Chicken all by itself so we had a couple more to try.

From 2023, a Single Barrel, Barrel Proof Rye from Jack Daniel's. This one is 131.2 proof and is non age stated (NAS).

We’ve had the chance to try some really good offerings by Jack Daniel’s, especially some Coy Hill and higher proof single barrel offerings.

Join us as we track down and try the first release from Bourbon Lore. This 18 barrel blend of Missouri Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the first of its kind to ever be blended by Holladay Distillery. This offering has a 7 year age statement and was bottled at 118.6 proof.

Per the press release, "This completely new expression is blended by some of the most refined palates in whiskey: Mason Walker, Clay Risen, Emerson Shotwell, David Jennings, and Ryan Alves, in collaboration with Holladay Master Distiller Kyle Merklein.
Almost a year in the making, we combined some of the oldest whiskey Holladay has ever released, with some barrels that will never be released again. Additionally, this is the first-ever Holladay release to blend barrels from multiple distilling seasons!
This is a true one of a kind release, and a bottle that can never be replicated again."

On this National Book Day we decided to re-read a classic about my old Kentucky home and sip on some KY bourbon.

If you’ve not read the book or had the bourbon we’d highly recommend both! You just can’t beat a story about corruption and the origin of the one and only Co***ne Bear. Combine that with some discontinued 6 year old bottled in bond bourbon from Heaven Hill Distillery and you just can’t go wrong.

New release that we were able to acquire from our friends at Bluegrass Barrel Pickers. This one is a return to one of their most popular picks, Double Barrel Char Mar from Good Times Bourbon

It’s a 5+ year MGP (36% Rye mash bill) Bourbon finished in New Char & American White Oak, Madeira, Apricot Brandy and Rum barrels. It comes in at 110 proof. And the label also pays homage to the great Secretariat 🐎

What better way to start the week off than a fresh crack of a new bottle of whiskey. This one is the latest release from Bulleit and is a 12 year age stated rye.

The distillate is from the state of Indiana (MGP) and is the 95% rye, 5% malted barley mashbill.
Proof is 92.
