𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) President of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar), Dr. Jacqueline M. Calaycay, issued two official statements to address recent concerns regarding student appeals and the application process on Saturday, July 20.

The first statement addressed rumors circulating online about a student's appeal scheduled for Monday, July 22. Dr. Calaycay clarified that these rumors are unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.

Meanwhile, the second statement explained to applicants for the PLMar Appeal that they do not need to visit the Office of the Student Concerns and Advocacy (OSCA) or the Mayor's Office to follow up or resubmit their applications.

PLMar acknowledges the high volume of applications and limited resources, stating that they are diligently working to process all applications and will be engaging with qualified applicants in the coming weeks.

“Ginagawa namin ang aming makakaya upang suriin ang lahat ng aplikasyon. Tandaan din na dahil sa dami ng aplikante at limitasyon ng aming kapasidad, hindi namin kayang tanggapin ang lahat," she noted.

Additionally, the university reiterated that accurate information should only be obtained through official announcements released by PLMar.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | In a time where journalism remains as crucial as ever, journalists like Kamila persist in aiming for new heights by any means necessary. Having conquered the peaks of her endeavors, the fruits of her labor are now ripe for the harvest.

Through the days where it seems to never end,
Nights you gave your blood, sweat, and tears for this,
We climbed the peaks; we faced the lows.
Take the moment.
Breathe in, breathe through, breathe deep, and breathe out.

From our freshmen fears to seniors graces,
The final slope, the ride’s last bend,
Anticipating with all our dreams,
Hope and Faith.
A journey's close, yet not the end.
The ride was long; it's the fight of our lives.
After all the frustrations,
Today we'll fight what we've worked for all these years.

Overcoming a year of sleepless nights, the worries and woes of passing your workload finally fades away.

As another door closes, a new one will open—and it will bring new seasons of challenges, hardships, and tribulations. But today, take the time to rest and give yourself a pat in the back for doing your best.

𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | You are loved, accepted, and celebrated. Know that being yourself will never be the wrong thing to do. Pride Month is a reminder that beneath the rainbow, we are one—a spectrum of love. Equality is not a destination but a journey—one that every member of the LGBTQIA+ community fights for, one that requires dedication, courage, and compassion. It asks us to challenge prejudice and ensure an environment where love is not hidden. But rather celebrated.

Be proud. Be loud. Be who you are. Pride is not just a month-long celebration, but to make a stand for the protection of every member of the pride. We must continue to fight for House Bill No. 4982 to be approved, or the SOGIE bill. An anti-discrimination bill that seeks to prohibit discrimination based on a person's expression of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Start your engines. We have come a long way. But we still have a long runway to strut our heels on.

20/05/2024

𝗟𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | On a recent post by page ‘Marikina Real Talk’, students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina’s (PLMar) College of Health Sciences (CHS), took it to social media to address the page’s allegations to “get their facts straight”

Following the successful examination of six (6) student nurses from PLMar during the May 2024 Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination (PNLE), Marikina Real Talk has expressed dissatisfaction on the results as few have only passed.

They added the reasons being due to financial constraints and making the student population lesser every year, claiming that PLMar is “forcing them to shift to save money and increase the passing rate.”

Comments from the several nursing students of PLMar College of Health Sciences (CHS), stressed that these are all misinformation as the true situation of nursing students in PLMar is far from what is claimed by Marikina Real Talk.

“...PLMar nursing graduates are known for taking the PNLE in November, not May. Most of my batch mates and I will be taking the exam this November 2024. Comparing the number of exam takers to the number of enrolled first-year students is not just inappropriate—it’s misleading,” Eley Bismonte, a 4th year nursing student, expressed his sentiment in the comment section which are now deleted by the admin of the aforementioned page.

As opposed to the acclaimed “6 students passed when 700 students were admitted during the first year,” it would be attested to the fact that each year the students undergo qualifying examinations to filter those who are truly capable to take on the role of nurses.

“Bakit pinagkukumpara ang 6 na nag-take ng [PNLE] boards sa 700 [enrolled students] na 1st year? Sa tingin niyo ba ‘yung 1st year, eh makakapagtake agad ng board exam?,” Nathaniel Supan, 4th-year nursing student, added.

As per the College Related Learning Experience (RLE) Manual Handbook Series of 2023, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program provides an intensive nursing practicum that will refine clinical skills from the first-year level to ensure basic clinical competencies required to a beginning nurse practitioner, making qualification exams necessary for this purpose.

Angelo Rimbao, currently a 3rd-year nursing student and the Vice President for Programs and Development (VPPD) of Healthcare Society, stated on his post that the payment of the 350 Pesos for every qualification exam is meant to pay third-party associations affiliated with the school for releasing the exams.

“Also, ‘yong binabayaran for qualifying exam, hindi naman direct sa school napupunta ‘yon. Third party [affiliated by the College] po ang nag-pproduce [ng exam] kaya may bayad.” Rimbao stated.

On another note, Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro has strongly pursued the “Free Tuition Fee sa Bawat PLMarian ng Marikina” since 2017, which is accredited by CHED.

An exception was made for the Related Learning Experiences (RLE) as it is needed for the payment of affiliated hospitals for the training and experience of students, also for their clinical instructors. As compared to other universities, the RLE fees of PLMar are relatively low and are not forced since promissory letter were handed out for those who were not able to immediately pay the fees, giving way to slowly save up money.

“Totoo pong libre ang tuition fee sa PLMar, ang RLE lang po ang may bayad dahil nga po sa hospital kami kumukuha ng experience at doon po kami nagkakaroon ng learnings para magamit namin kapag mga RN [Registered Nurse] na kami,” Chriscel Espiritu, a 3rd-year nursing student, stated on her shared post.

In line with the allegations claimed by Marikina Real Talk, Hayág Publications stands firmly with the College of Health Sciences (CHS) in fighting for the truth, dismantling misconceptions, and speaking based on facts and facts alone. The Publications also condemns that they shouldn’t delete the comments and blocked the accounts of the audience as they just really spitting facts.

𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙨!

Uncared carers. The individuals we rely on to safeguard our health face a myriad of challenges across the archipelago. The "Heroes", "Life-Saviors", "Carers"; they represent the lifeblood of our nation. Yet, amidst these names, they remain one of the most overlooked and undervalued, while selflessly sacrificing their own well-being for the sake of others.

Low wages, unsafe working conditions, lack of support, and inhumane treatment are some of the many battles plaguing healthcare professionals in our country. Recently, the number of cases of discrimination against healthcare professionals has gone viral in our country. It has become a living testament and sheds light on an ongoing problem that continues to worsen. Such treatments urge many of our healthcare workers to seek better conditions abroad.

Our country should prioritize the welfare of healthcare workers and strengthen the healthcare system as a whole. Proper compensation, protection of rights, a healthy working environment, and good benefits. We must not forget how they sacrificed their own well-being for the sake of others, and their dedication and passion for lengthening the lives of countless people. The sacrifices and service of Nurses, Doctors, and other Healthcare professionals illuminate even the darkest of times, and in their hands lies the promise of a healthier life for all.
