"Most people are selfish."

☝️That's the negativity bias talking.

In reality, humans are generous, says science.

When researchers set up cameras and watched humans all over the world, they determined:

🧡 Folks are seven times more likely to agree to help when asked than they are to decline to assist someone.

💙 The researchers wrote: "When people are prompted to, or otherwise given the opportunity to, assist others, they will usually do so, only rarely refusing, regardless of whether they are interacting among kin or non-kin."

So, if you'd like to shift your mindset, pay attention. Look for the helpers. They're everywhere.

So much separates us these days.

If all the tribalism is making you feel a bit hopeless — as if we humans will never find common ground — give yourself the gift of reading this story.

Then think: What can I do today to be more like Sammy John?

A tale of hope for polarized times.

It can be challenging to know how to comfort someone who is grieving. We all try. Yet, I think many of us feel a bit helpless—as if our gestures of support aren't doing much good.

If ^^ resonates, this story will inspire you.

The anonymous gesture changed everything.

Arguably, you’ll find several kinds of people at the scene of an accident.

There’s the person who…

😭Thinks, “%$%$! Not today!”

🧐 Gawks

🤬 Pulls onto the shoulder to pass the line of traffic

🫣 Looks at their phone, accidentally rear-ending the vehicle ahead of them

🦸‍♀️Races toward the scene and offer assistance

This is a story about this last kind of person.

BTW: Which type of person are you?

If you grew up in a small town, you'll likely resonate with the outcome.

Spend much time in a hospital or nursing home and you'll realize that lots of people spend their final days alone.

There's no spouse. No children. No visitors.

But it doesn't have to end up that way.

Sometimes, thanks to the kindness of other people, is ISN'T that way.

^^ That's what this story is all about.

It takes a lot to put your own life on hold in order to be an unpaid caregiver for another person, especially someone you're not related to.

Would you do it for someone else? Why or why not?

It was the kindness of an acquaintance that made the difference.

When we're trying to describe a generous person, we often use the cliché, "They'd give you the shirt off their back."

But there's a special kind of person who will not only give you their shirt, but also their pants. This is a story about one of those people. The world needs more people like Mrs. Ash.

As it turns out, it happens more often than you’d think.

Kindness FTW.
