Feel like a Mike Nock night in? Mike's curated online concert is live, complete with his unique and upbeat approach to the stories behind the music. We hope you love it as much as we enjoyed making it. The idea here is to share the music and encourage purchase. So spread it, lovelies, and buy some music :-) Mike Nock James Waples Laurence Pike James Greening Phil Slater Karl Laskowski Ken Allars https://www.table19radio.com/mike-nock-concert-online-march-2020/

Sydney-based composer and pianist Mike Nock curates a concert of pieces from recordings with his Trio, the Trio Plus, the Noctet, and solo, plus a band he played with in New York back in the day, featuring a surprise lineup of famous musicians.

We have two more concerts in the pipeline - Stephen Magnusson introduces his February release Taylor Street, and Mike Nock curates and introduces (expect some great Mike stories) a concert of some of his favourite pieces, including a never before released piece, recorded in NYC, produced by Teo Macero and featuring Lou Marini. So there's that. We'll notify you of release dates and times in the next day or two!

Andrea Keller has started the ball rolling with our first 'online concert'. Transients has been a regular Thursday night fixture at Uptown jazz cafe, that fantastic venue in Brunswick Street Fitzroy. Unfortunately, thanks to the virus, we're not going to gigs, musicians are missing out massively on income and promotional opportunities, not to mention the community building and networking that goes on. This is one small way we are trying to help. The Bandcamp revenue model is good for musicians, and their interface is good for purchasers. These concerts are one way to keep the music out there. And at Table 19 we also believe that the stories behind the music matter. Listen now to hear Andrea tell the stories behind 10 beautiful pieces from Transients Volume 1 and Transients Volume 2. https://www.table19radio.com/andrea-keller-transients-march-2020/

Table 19 is revving up. We're starting gigs online next week, and Australian jazz musicians, I want you to be a part of it. It's a small thing in the scheme of this current scenario, but I figure our purpose is to get music into peoples ears, even if they can't go to gigs.

The gigs will look like this:
1. A bandleader or solo performer provides me with a playlist of 7-10 tracks Email [email protected] or dm me here or via my personal profile Miriam Zolin on Fb, or call me if my number is in your phone.
2. To help with revenue for you and your band, ensure the music is available on Bandcamp, because we will actively promote purchase of music and Bandcamp provides a great user experience for purchases as well as having a good payment model for musicians.
3. Consider including an unreleased track or two if you wish to promote an as-yet-unreleased recording
4. I purchase quite a bit of music on Bandcamp, but if I don't already have the music, I may ask you to send MP3 files to me, but I will continue to purchase when I can, because I believe in you and I believe in setting an example
5. Once the playlist is finalised, we set up a Skype or Zoom call and we'll record you introducing the music and the band, in the same way that you would if you were on stage at a venue.
6. I will quickly edit and splice the gig together and send it live, and we promote the hell out of it to our vast online networks, through as many channels as we can, encouraging listening and purchase.

Notes:
Table 19 has been a bit quiet due to my personal circumstances, but this is a great opportunity to get it up and running at speed - for your benefit
The podcast is licensed through APRA AMCOS, so if you are on their books you also get royalties - so let's get this music into as many ears as we can. My licence fee goes up with an increase of listeners, and that is a fee increase I would be delighted to pay.

A gig by Mike Nock is the first off the rank. I'm hoping that we get a good mix of young bands, established groups, solo artists and across the broad classification of jazz.

Love youse all... please spread around... there's room for everybody.

If you've had to cancel a launch gig that was scheduled to occur in the next couple of weeks, let's see what we can do to get you an online alternative

Our story

Table 19 was up near the bar, at a small jazz club called Side On Cafe in Parramatta Road Annandale. I could be found there a few nights a week in 1999 and 2000 and it was a great place to write, listen and be inspired.

Twenty years later and I still love to listen to jazz and improvised music. Constantly fresh, often surprising. It’s the music of life. It evolves but it has the capacity to call on the past at the same time as it looks to the future.

And the people who make this music are alive with the music’s possibilities. They are inspiring and vibrant, full of ideas and eager to connect with life’s big questions.

Join us for our weekly podcast, launching in September 2019.
