Ġkieket < English "Jacket"
Tas = Arabic "m(a)taʕ al-" = "of the"
Salvataġġ < Italian "Salvataggio" = "rescue"

Let's talk a bit about Czech today!
Vánoce, the Czech word for "Christmas", is a strange hybrid creature...
Can you guess what it means, and where it comes from?

The second part, "-noce", is easy: it is a form of the Czech word for "night".
But what about that Vá- at the beginning?
Well.. that comes from the Weih- of German Weihnacht(en), which literally means "holy night(s)"

So Czech borrowed the word from German, it kept the first part as Vá-, but it somehow translated the second from "nacht(en)" to "noce"!
