Typical summer time pattern sets up to start the week. Temperatures will remain right around the seasonal average this week with the potential for afternoon storms every day. We’ll heat up a little through mid-week with average temperatures but a heat index near 105. Afternoon storms chances continue into the weekend, ahead of a cold front. The front should move through Saturday evening and take the storms with it. Look for a dryer, more comfortable Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

It will be hot and humid again today with more afternoon storms. There is no heat advisory again today as the heat index is expected to remain around 100. A cold front moved into the Carolinas and has stalled. The chance for scattered storms starts up during the mid-afternoon and will continue throughout the evening. We could see the chance for wide-spread heavy rain later this evening and into the overnight, just like yesterday.

Temperatures will remain near normal for the weekend with scattered afternoon storm chances. The stalled front will push to the north throughout the weekend, slightly decreasing our rain chances . The heat index will remain around 100, with some spots possibly warming to 103-104 throughout the weekend. Temperatures will remain around average for the first half of next week but the heat index could climb back up to near 105 by Tuesday. The chance for scattered afternoon storms continues.

It will be hot and humid again today with more afternoon storms. The chance for scattered storms starts up during the early to mid-afternoon. Some storms will be strong like the past couple of days, but they will not be widespread. There will be no heat advisory for today, but the heat index is expected to remain around 105.

A cold front will move into the area and stall tonight into Friday. This will enhance the likelihood of seeing widespread rain and thunderstorms. Clouds will increase helping to cut down the high heat. A new drought monitor will be released today, and I anticipate the “extreme” drought remaining. Over the past week, rainfall totals in the P*e Dee were less than an inch for most, and with the persistent heat, drought conditions will remain.

The best chance for clouds and widespread rain will arrive on Friday. This will drop our temperatures back to normal and keep the heat index in check, possibly only around 100. Temperatures will remain near normal for the weekend with scattered afternoon storm chances.

Hot and humid again today with scattered storm chances. It will be hot and humid again today with the chance for scattered storms starting up a little earlier in the afternoon. This will keep us from getting as hot as we have been the past few days but the heat index will still climb into the triple digits. A heat advisory is in effect for the entire area from 11 am until 7 pm for heat index values ranging from 105 to 109.
A cold front will move into the area and stall Thursday night into Friday. This will enhance the likelihood of seeing rain and thunderstorms. It will also bring more clouds to the sky, which will help cut down the high heat. The heat index is expected to remain above 105 degrees on Thursday with the best chance for clouds and rain arriving on Friday. This will drop our temperatures back to around normal and should keep the heat index in check, possibly only around 100. Temperatures will remain near normal for the weekend with scattered afternoon storm chances.

The heat wave continues across the area after Florence tied a record yesterday at 102, Lumberton was even hotter at 103. Heat index values were as high as 114 degrees in Myrtle Beach yesterday, 116 the day before. There will be no relief from the heat today either. We anticipate the high continuing with an Excessive Heat Warning issued for today from 10am through 7pm. with the heat index averaging at least 110 degrees.

There won’t be much relief from the heat in terms of rain as there is only an isolated chance for thunderstorms this afternoon. A cold front will move into the area and stall Thursday night into Friday. This will enhance the likelihood of seeing rain and thunderstorms. It will also bring more clouds to the sky, which will help cut down the high heat. The heat index is expected to remain above 105 degrees Wednesday and Thursday with the best chance for clouds and rain arriving on Friday. This will drop our temperatures back to around normal and should keep the heat index in check, possibly only around 100. A heat wave is ongoing across the area after temperatures hit 101 degrees in Florence and 100 in Lumberton with the heat index as high as 116 degrees in Myrtle Beach yesterday. There will be little relief from the heat this week. As we head into today and Tuesday, this is where we anticipate the highest heat. Highs inland will be around 100, if not above 100. Around the coastal regions, we will see highs in the low to mid-90s. A heat advisory has been issued for today from 10 am through 8 pm with the heat index averaging 109 degrees at least.

There won’t be much relief from the heat in terms of rain. There is an isolated chance for thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. By midweek, a cold front will move into the area and stall. This will enhance the likelihood of seeing rain and thunderstorms. It will also bring more clouds to the sky, which will help cut down the high heat. The heat index is expected to remain above 105 degrees through Thursday with the best chance for clouds and rain arriving on Friday, dropping our temperatures back to around normal. 12/07/2024

Much needed rain will stream though the area today. An area of low pressure to our south will move through our area today, bringing the potential for heavy rain. The front is still stalled along the coast to start the day but as the low moves closer, the front will drift west. An areal flood watch is in place until midnight as excessive moisture (high humidity) leads to heavy downpours. Some storms will produce rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour.

Severe drought in now in place for 16% of the area covered by the National Weather Service Wilmington including most of Florence and Marion counties and portions of Horry County. Severe drought has not occurred in this area in 12 years. Flash flood warnings are not out of the question today because even with drought conditions, the grounds, ditches, and roadways cannot absorb that much rain rapidly.

The low will move to the north to start the weekend and rain chances will gradually go down. We will also heat up, combined with high humidity, making it feel like triple digits again. Scattered showers and storms will continue for the weekend but it will be mixed with sun and clouds. We will dry out and heat up even more to start next week with some inland areas heat to close to 100° Monday and Tuesday.

Hot and humid today with scattered storms. A cold front has moved into the Carolinas and will stall along the coast today. It will be hot and humid today but not nearly as hot as yesterday, thanks to north flow behind the cold front. Scattered storm chances will increase slightly for this afternoon and evening. A low will develop offshore to our south tonight and move through our area Friday. Skies will be mostly cloudy on Friday with better storm coverage. More persistent rain will keep temperatures in the mid to upper 80s on Friday. Rainfall is estimated from 0.5-2 inches with the higher totals east of I-95. Much needed rain for the area since all counties are in a drought.

The heat and humidity will return for the weekend with average temperatures on Saturday and some late-day pop-up storms. The heat index will climb back into the triple digits for the weekend as well. The front will slowly dissipate on Sunday, and we will dry out a bit and heat back up into the low to mid-90s. We will continue to heat up to start next week with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 90s for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hot, humid weather will bring scattered thunderstorms through the rest of the week. High pressure offshore will continue to push hot, humid weather into the Carolinas. Highs today will top out in the upper 80s along the coast to mid 90s inland. The increasing humidity will push the heat index above 105 degrees inland and there is a Heat Advisory from 11a until 7pm for all inland counties. This heat and humidity will allow thunderstorms to develop each afternoon and evening. This typical summertime weather will continue through Wednesday.

A cold front will move into the Carolinas Wednesday night and stall for the remainder of the week. Scattered storm chances will increase for Thursday afternoon and evening. We may see more clouds around on Friday and even better storms chances, which could keep temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. The heat and humidity will return for the weekend with pop up late day storms on Saturday. The front will dissipate Sunday and we will dry out a bit and heat back up into the low to mid 90s.

03/07/2024

Our weather will be heating up for the end of the week. High pressure to our north will give us one more day with easterly winds today, and that will keep it from getting too hot. By Thursday, the high will move far enough offshore that our winds will turn to the south, and the heat and humidity will be back. High temperatures today will be in the 80s to low 90s with plenty of sunshine. The heat index will still be relatively comfortable today, feeling like mid 90s. Temperatures will be back above normal for the 4th of July with highs in the upper 80s along the coast and mid 90s inland. The heat index will climb back to the mid 90s along the coast, 100-102 inland.

The hot, humid weather will continue Friday through the weekend with heat index values over 100. We will stay mostly rain free along the coast through Saturday, isolated inland storms are possible. By Sunday a cold front will stall to our west, bringing the chance for thunderstorms through Tuesday. The front will stay out to our west and is not expected to cool us down.

Drier weather is moving in for the middle of the week. The cold front that moved through yesterday will continue to push to our south, allowing drier air to filter into the Carolinas. Today will be partly sunny and less humid with high temperatures in the 80s, which is cooler than normal for this time of year. High pressure will control our weather through the end of the week, keeping it dry. It will heat up, and the humidity will return by the end of the week. Temperatures will be back to normal by Wednesday and then above normal on Thursday through the weekend. High temperatures late this week and over the weekend will be around 90 along the coast and in the mid to upper 90s inland. There will be a slight chance of a thunderstorm on Saturday. A cold front will stall to our west on Sunday, bringing scattered thunderstorms, but no relief from the heat.
